Fatal accident, Exmouth WA

Recommended Posts

Mal Watts and his partner Samantha Nuttall have been named as the fatalities in this crash. Nothing has been mentioned anywhere about the aircraft type involved - just regular mention of a "microlight".

It appears Mal Watts was involved with Birds Eye View aviation in Exmouth and he is listed as an "Apprentice Flying Instructor" on their website. BEV operate microlights built by Airborne Windsports.

Just a little more information from a Channel 9 news item. For once, they got everything right, the local police are on the ball, and have declined to speculate on the cause of the crash.

The ultralight wreckage has been removed to the Exmouth Police Station for further examination and photographing, and I guess to provide evidence for a coronial inquest.

The girl reporter correctly states that the crash cause is unknown, and more investigation is needed to determine whether it was a pilot medical episode, piloting error, or mechanical failure.
