military aircraft, they aren't worried about passenger comfort

Yes it isn't a passenger aircraft but 45 deg is not a very steep turn anyway. 60 to 80 deg is a steep turn in my book

looks about 53deg.

My steep turns are 60 + deg. although apparently in RAAUS they dont do higher than 45 by the book.

I am sure most instructors teach 60. Essential know and avoid a spiral skills.

They have to get in or out of an airfield in a hostile country as quickly as possible to avoid shoulder-fire missiles so are designed for steep decsenting turns and steep climb outs.

I guessed but checking with Smart tools app shows it to be 53 deg.👍

A fairly standard military arrival manoeuvre I am told. Hit the airfield fast, roll on bank and pull some G to decrease speed. Minimises exposure to any ground threats.

Soviets did the same thing during their Afghan war. The Il-76's would do a steep approach and bank 45+ degrees.
