What's New Issues List

Recommended Posts

Admin

I see that some users are having issues with the What's New function. Can you please list them in this thread as I am now looking into this whole function.

The What's New uses a default view that I created and set as the default called What's New as the previous software default was far away from the Xenforo style that many were use to.  In the What's New -> My Activity Streams you can create your own What's New view. What I am working on is also a side block that will list all the different views as like a side menu for you to click between rather than using the drop down list that is displayed with What's New -> My Activity Streams:

So please list in this thread any issues that you are having in as clear details as possible (inc screen shots) so I can resolve this aspect of the site for you...thanks

Oh, I should say that I can create a default What's New view containing settings that suit most users...settings like:

Raised this before, but I'd like to see the popup showing the start of the thread text you used to get when hovering the cursor over a thread title. Also keep the thread visible once read, instead of having it disappear immediately. Also when reopening a previously read thread, go automatically to the last post instead of defaulting to the first post.

That's what I've been saying from the start .

The problem is, every second person wants the program to work differently. If every variation was instantly available, there would be more buttons than a Wurlitzer organ. This software appears to be able to meet this challenge, and we are working on learning how to do just that. As soon as I get my head around it, I will amend the Q&A so you can tailor your specific  preferences. But now that Ian is working again, like the old commercial said, it won't happen overnight, but it will happen.

No problem. These are just minor things that I liked about the old software, but I'm happy to go along with whatever Ian comes up with.

Can you fix the "Notifications" so that:

1. New notifications are flaggged

2. Viewed notifications are cleared from the list.

Isn't there something in Preferences that you can use to have the most recent post in a thread appear at the top of the list, ie sorted by "Most Recent"?

In the previous version we received 1 notification email of additional posts since viewing. Now I receive a notification for every additional post. Not a biggy but fills the new emails. Cheers.

OME,

By most recent first, do you mean that if there are six posts since your last visit, you want to skip the first five and go to the last, or do you want to see the first post you have not yet read?

We had, in the version before last (I think), What's New with newest posts first, and What's new 14 days, again with newest posts first.

That way, if you thought of a comment, or were looking some detail up after you had left the thread/site, you could quickly find the post.

As Ian stated in the first post of this thread, you can create your own search and display stream in the item "My Activity Streams" on the What's New tab. Go to the bottom of the dropdown, and select Create New Stream. Give the stream a unique name, such as My Unread Posts, select how you wish to view the sections, then click Save the changes. Your stream will be stored in the Custom Streams section. At this point in time, to use this stream, you will have to click on My Activity Streams, then your custom stream. Clicking on What's New will give you Ian's custom default stream(red arrow below). I have asked Ian to look at a way of making your custom stream your personal default stream.

I'm not after anything "NEW" just what we "HAD" and every other forum has , the posts should not disappear once read so now we cant go back and re-read .

Not happy .

I do not get any alerts on site of threads I'm following. I do get notifications via email.

I don't understand the 'ratings' system. I don't see any ratings under any postings, whereas before there was a mix of various types of reaction. Also, in general, the rating numerical value of individual users seems to be about half of what the 'likes received' used to be.

I posted along these lines a week or so ago, & my post disappeared after being up for a couple of days.

I'm on a Mac laptop - I don't know if that's significant.

Have to say, I preferred the system as it was. . .

Soleair, I can't help you with alerts, Ian will look after that. For all others, while Ian is a) getting started in his new job, and b) working through the list of items which need attention in this new format, there have to be a few compromises. He's doing this on his own, on his own time, without a team of IT specialists.

If you want to look back at previous posts/replies, you can do so.

On the Whats New tab, click on Read Status.

Click on the down arrow in the black box.

Select "Everything" (red arrow below)

Disregard the bottom section, (green arrow), that only applies if you have selected "Content I haven't read".

This will list all posts, read and unread, with most recent posts first. The condensed version lists topic name, person replying and original poster.

If you select Expanded, the list will include the first line of the most recent reply.

As I stated in the post above on My Activity Streams, you can save this as a custom stream but will have to use the dropdown to select it until Ian came make it your default view.

The above steps will show the topic from page 1. To jump to the end of a very long topic, click on the down arrow after the page count. This will allow you to scroll up or down page numbers. Select the required page number and click GO.
