Am planning a flight up to the rockhampton area from camden. Which way would you go? Suitable airfields around rockhampton for a sportstar? ANybody know anything about hedlow or emu park? Your help would be appreciated regards.

Hedlow is closed as far as I know, but opposite side of the Yeppoon to Rocky road is Mt Jim Crow. It is close to the mountain which is just a lump of rock sticking up about 150m and about 100m across, in fact a normal circuit would go around the mt. Strip is narrow and rough with long grass right alongside. Can't remember who to contact.

Emu Park is a good strip and np problems.

Gladstone YGLA is good and has grass beside the bitumen for taildraggers, avgas available, but you need an ASIC or I suppose call them up and get escorted as necessary. Aerodrome board office is near the light aircraft apron gate and they are helpfull.

Rodds Bay which is where I fly from is 15SE of Gladstone S 24 d 04 m E151 deg 24 m close to the Bruce Hwy. Nearly 1000m grass 13 -31. All circuits to West of strip. Owner Bob Keen 0749750221, for more info or help call me on 0749750209 or PM me here. Rodds is of course over an hour from Rocky by road.

Old Station is a good strip 06_24 grass and about 3000m. Accomodation would be available at the strip. Contact Ronnie Creed 0749346535. This is the site of the Fly in at the June long weekend. It is closer to Rocky but away from the highway.

There is a gliding field at Dululu, called Mc Master Field, owned Mc Master but details I don't have 23d 57m S, 150d 16m E. They are active with gliders most weekends I believe.

Yenn, thank you very muchly. That information is appreciated a lot.

My family lives at yeppon so was trying to stay away from rockhampton if i could. I do have my ppl and asic. So can go into rocky if needed too. As the sportstar is transponder equipped.

But would be nice to take some of the family for some sight seeing and not have the concern of the control zone.
