Bet that if anyone actually tried that and survived they would retire from helicopters.

What ever happened to the SAFE  helicopter the Autogyro'd to land without endangering the passenger's.

As an AirForce apprentice they showed us many films with test footage of various ideas. One of theses was helicopter ejection seats. There were three main concepts;

1. Sideways ...not so good for your neck.

2. Vertical up, with blades that departed in pairs prior to ejection...great to watch in slo-mo.

3. Downwards ejecting with gyro stabilization...these went down then shot upwards in a "J" pattern, looked like a wild ride and wouldn't want to be close to the ground.

Military aircraft often suffer other types of damage than the typical engine failure, so they are always working on ways to improve surviveability in their aircraft and other machines.
