You are invited to attend the official opening of the Nancy-Bird Walton Memorial Tower at Luskintyre Airfield.

 

WHEN:

 

November 7, 2009 commencing at 10:00am, opening at 10:30am, refreshments after 11:30am, Lunch with the Tiger Moths BBQ at 12:30pm, continues until late afternoon.

 

DETAILS:

 

A unique Memorial to a unique Australian aviatrix - Nancy-Bird Walton AO OBE OSJ. This 1930's style 15.5m high control tower with all mod cons including Internet webcam and weather station will be unveiled on Saturday November 7, 2009. A grove of Nancy-Bird Camellias will be planted in the garden of the tower. The construction of this tower has been made possible with generous donations from people in the aviation industry and supporters of the Luskintyre Aviation Flying Museum. The RAAF Brass Band will be playing.

Luskintyre Aviation Flying Museum, 252 Pywells Road, Luskintyre via Lochinvar NSW.

 

GETTING THERE BY AEROPLANE:

 

We are located 4Nm west of the Maitland Aerodrome (Maitland - YMND, NSW). Maitland has two sealed runways, runway lighting on RWY 05/23, and is serviced by the West Maitland VOR NDB Navaid.

 

Luskintyre Airfield details: WAC: 3456; Co-Ords: S:32° 40' E:151° 25'; Elevation: 100 feet; Primary Runway: 12/30 800 metres all over grass; Secondary Runway: 16/34 975 metres all over grass; Windsock: adjacent to RWY 12/30 near vineyard; Circuits: to the north, RWY 12 left circuits, RWY 30 right circuits; Tie down facilities available; Hangarage available in an emergency; Overnight accommodation by arrangement.

 

GETTING THERE BY CAR:

 

1. Go to Lochinvar on the New England Hwy between Maitland and Branxton (east of Singleton).

 

2. At Lochinvar turn onto 'Windemere Road' - just west of the Lochinvar Pub.

 

3. Turn left at 'Luskintyre Road' and follow it over the bridge and to the next intersection.

 

4. At the intersection continue straight ahead along 'Pywells Road' and follow it through a right turn until you reach the Luskintyre Aviation Flying Museum at 252 Pywells Road.

 

5. Proceed up the gravel driveway until you come to the carpark in front of the main hangar. Lock your car and walk to the other side of the main hangar where you will see some activity.
