  1. I actually experienced this exact scenario on Sunday. We were joining on crosswind, and new there was one other plane doing circuits, but they hadn't made a downwind call. We probably should have asked for info from them at this point. However, we did a solide bit of looking and spotted them about 100ft higher and maybe 750 feet away. We dived down to generate separation, and extended the crosswind.

With no othe planes in the circuit, the instructor basically completed a 'wide' circuit and joined on base to provide time for the other plane to complete their circuit... not sure about what we should have done different here...

The instructor was off to make sure the other pilot remembers to make his calls!

    Cheers,

  2. I have been reading the 'fly better' series of books, available free (previously listed on a different thread), and book two has a section on how to create a consistent aiming point by putting a dot on the windscreen at the correct position for your sitting height. It is a simple version of the HUDs they use on military aircraft.

The book talks about how to use the aiming point in all aspects of flight, including how to use it to create consistent 'over the tarmac' approach velocities and positions.

While I haven't tried it yet it seems to make a heck of a lot of sense, and it may assist you.

    Cheers,

  3. Thanks for the info crew - my remaining concern is in the restraint area, and how that best works. But I think the thoughts/info above has mostly covered it off. Certainly don't want to get up there with a dog that can in anyway access the controls...

    Fetch the stick?!!

  4. Hey there to all those knowledgeable types...040_nerd.gif.a6a4f823734c8b20ed33654968aaa347.gif

I am trying to find a flying school on the west side of melbourne, preferably for RA. I have had a look at Point Cook which looks like it is starting up GA training shortly, but... does anyone know much about training at Bacchus Marsh?

So they train in RA? Any good/bad reports or views?

    Cheers,

  5. Thanks Tomo - I have done 18 hours of a GA licence a few years back, and then couldn't committ enough time to keep going, but am certainly planning to get back into it. Unfortunately it won't happen before the trip.

Thanks for the link to Qwerty too.

    Cheers,

  6. Hi all,

I am planning a visit to Tassie next April, and want to work in a flight to see the place from the air. What's the hassle? I don't have a licence, so would like to find out whether anyone there would like to take myself and my wife on a tour (costs covered of course)

If not - any ideas on how I could arrange something like this/who to talk to?

    Many thanks,

  7. Hi all,

I have done about 19 hours to date, so passed solo, etc, but not for about 4 years and I want to fire up the training again. The question I have is... where should I go for the training?

I live to the west of Melb, so was thinking of Essendon, or maybe Point Cook (if that still is running).

Does anyone have good/bad experiences with training groups around this area? Any thoughts?

    Cheers,

    Chris
