  1. Looking at getting back in the air again I’ve been ground hogging it since I sold my single seat helicopter like 18 months ago, redone my old AUF license ( that should give you a hint of age) to a raaus license near 12 months ago, keep getting close to buying then decide to hold off again.

my real question is are the above planes particularly bad for ground loop behaviour or not?

I think one of these might be a good compromise between a bit of speed and shortish take off?

  2. ok so, just saying that 1 was to have an aircraft with a camitt engine, are jabiru parts the same/clone, ie. can the jabiru parts for all the engine be used in a camitt engine?

    what are the parts options?

    thanks

  3. I just today got back from a week away visiting my daughter who lives in Katherine, yesterday to fill in the day I dropped into the aviation museum in Darwin, and all I can say is if you have a slight interest in aviation you must visit this place if your in the area, a very well set out and very reasonable priced display of near every type of aircraft, from an actual B52 bomber to a F111 to the earliest ultralights, a gyro, and a whole heap more, motors of near every type made, simply brilliant.

I am interested in aviation but I thought I am not the museum type, thought 15-20 mins tops well about 2.5 hrs latter I had to go to other commitments, also stumbled onto I think it was called East piont, there is a stack of military stuff there also, I really enjoyed the day, must be getting an old fart I guess, but it is amazing the things that happened in 1942 to keep our life style as we know it now.

To all those who gave and to those who continue to give, thank you, I for one do appreciate it

  4. I doubt that they could produce 154hp for more than a very short time. The hp increase is 94% so the heat increase must be terrific.

I had 145 hP on a 80 hp rotax no heat problem similar idea to this it works well, you can trick the computer on the 914 nd they pump out something like 180 hp

  5. Starting to wind a few hours up on my 914, looking at engine rebuild or replace , terrified of the cost, would it be possible to convert the 80hp 912 to a 914 by swapping all the 914 bits over , carbys airbox exhaust and turbo , worth a thought

The motor would be the last thing that would need changing, the turbo will go before the motor.

  6. I have actually played with that system, it was a 914 rotax modified with full EFI, obviously being controlled by the sds, when I got it there were many people thought they would fine tune it for him, to the stage of it would only just run.

Emailed the makers of the sds, they sent me a basic start piont that the motor would run on, and once you read the manual 5 times so the info sinks in, nd it all starts to make sense, at that piont you can make the motor do anything you want, but nd a big but is you must have an air/ fuel ratio guage, you need to be able to see rich or lean to properly adjust the fuel values, I think from memory every 250 rpm may be less, but you can control spark advance, fuel/ air , and a whole lot more.

I ended up getting the motor running sweet as, then he sold it all

  7. Biggles, you need to call into a computer shop, and buy about 4 of I think they are ferrite resistors, basically they are the clamp around white magnet things you see on every computer lead, I had the same problem for ages, could not work it out, swapped about 4 radios, bigger ground plane ect ect.

All you need to do is put one of them on each lead, aerial, power , and any other wires in the area, they stop feed back into the radio that is basically all that is doing it. Well from my experience it was anyway.

Another thing it maybe I found once, make sure the aerial lead is not near any power sources, ie strobe wires, light wires, I had one radio worked perfectly until the light was turned on, went digging and the aerial wire was tied to the power wire once, shift it and fine then.

  8. Does the solenoid enrichment valve only switch looking at throttle position or does it also check against air box pressure , moving the throttle past 108 doesn't open the valve , any ideas?

What are you calling "solenoid enrichment valve" just that I have never read anything called that before? a search of the manual came up empty too.

  9. RHT, mate you done just about everything except a couple of things, I have had my share of trouble shooting with these engines, it only takes a small leak somewhere to up set the apple cart.

IMHO, the leaking fuel is not related to the power loss, more annoying than anything, there is no way that much pressure can escape through there, first off, make sure the pipes going to the turbo are seated properly, I have had 1 motor the bracket that holds everything in place, loosened, and(I think, long time ago) the exhaust rolled a small amount, and the top pipe was out of the socket, still sitting in there but not holding pressure(but it was still developing full power just a hell of a noise).

Next check all the small black pressure lines, especially the ones going from the carbs to fuel pressure reg, it sounds like it could be dropping fuel pressure, do you get a rapid rise in EGT's? when the power loss happens. take them off and put your finger over one end and blow into them so if they hold pressure, trust me these are very important pipes.

it is IMHO definitely turbo related as 36" is where the waste gate goes full closed, if all these things are good it could be turbo rebuild time, take your air intake pipe off, and see how much movement is in the main shaft, there should next to nothing side play, but a small amount of end float, check the compressor wheel, and turbine wheels on both sides.

Obviously before you take the turbo off the machine(if you decide to), make sure as stated before that the TCU is set correctly, it obviously does the full travel test when the power is turned on? if it is, the TCU/ waste gate/ controller, that's the problem, there should be flashing lights to advise of a problem there.

I have also had twice,(different motors) the waste gate motor just get that damn confused it "looses" it place and I took the cable off and turned the power on again, the motor does about 2 rotations then sets itself and all good then.

Is this a new problem? how many hrs on the motor.

Is there another 914 in the area? I would also try to swap test the air box pressure sender, ambient sender, in other words find another machine and swap senders out 1 at a time, see if you can find it that way.

Good luck you will need it :)
