  1. Redair, I did trim a bit out of the front corners of the roof panel. The best bet is to assemble the roof, the windscreen and the cover strips onto the frame with clecos and then you can work out where the inner edge of the wing skin will come to. You can see what needs to be done to make it neat then.

  2. This is all fantastic information, if you know of anywhere at all don't hold back, let us know. We are currently working very hard on a new clubhouse at Gympie, hoping to provide a comfortable facility for visitors, as well as ourselves. There are usually some Gympie club members wandering around on the weekend, so drop in (preferably land gracefully) and have a yarn.

  3. Does anyone happen to know of any quiet little bush airstrips in Southern Qld or Northern Nsw where a person can land and camp for a couple of days. A water hole would be good, some interesting country also good. Access to civilization not required. Look forward to hearing of anything you may have found.

    Thanks, Peter.

  4. From the Rotax installation manual:

Fuel Pressure: Max 5.8 psi Min 2.2 Normal 4.4 Delivery pressure of elec pump should not exceed 4.4. Use of electric pump not just as a backup but to prevent vapour formation at high temp or alt. Vapour formation may occur if fuel line temp exceeds 45 deg.

  5. Many thanks JG, very valuable information. For the aircraft I trained on (not Savannnah) the recomendation was to use the electric pump to start the engine, and then turn it off! This seems crazy to me, I think the engine should be started and run up on the mechanical pump only to check it's pressure, then as you say turn on the electric as a backup for takeoff. At Savannah takeoff angle the wing tanks are not very far above the carburettors, so gravity would not be much help.

  6. I am hoping I have solved the air bubble problem by installing an air bleed line from the top of the 6L tank to the top of the inner right tank. This is also the tank which has the engine return, so this line should eliminate overflow of this tank, as the fuel should feed back down the air line before overflow, regardless of which tank feed line is turned on.

Without this any air in the reserve has to bubble back up the feed. I have taps on all 4 tanks.

This is untested and only works on paper, has anyone actually tried it?

  7. Many thanks Ron, my trim is about 6mm thicker than the back of the elevator when hinged in the neutral position, so I will get it checked out before I rivet it.

Hope you get a good weekend for flying.

  8. Fantastic Ron, Congratulations. 95 knots is amazing, you must have done a superb job. Hope I get to see the aircraft some day. Perhaps you could drop by the Sunshine Coast on the first "Around Australia".

  9. Many thanks Ron, I would really appreciate that dimension before I rivet the tab, no hurry, I have plenty of other things to rivet. I would also be very interested to know how you set up the 4 fuel taps, and what sort you used as I am installing 4 tanks as well. Congratulations on passing the inspection with no significant problems and please let us know how it flies!

  10. Ron, just wondering if you have made a start as yet. I have finished most of the tail - seem to be going Ok. The elevator trim stopped me, it seems to be about 6mm thicker that the back of the elevator, if anyone has a dimension for total thickness of the trim tab I would much appreciate it.

    Thanks, Peter

  11. Many thanks Milton, there looks to be a wealth of very useful photos on the SA site. When you have finished the 11 hours come for a trip down to the Sunshine Coast, we might be able to organise a gathering of the Savannah Clan.
