  1. Hi All, I have a few questions on my upcoming reintroduction to flight training after about 3 years. I originally flew Piper Warrior IIIs down at Moorabbin and achieved my first solo and was up to second, however after speaking to a new flight school at Archerfield it has been suggested that I look at the Cessna 172R. What are people's thoughts on the change and whether this will cause me major problems? Also I was told by the CFI that their policy is to teach oval circuits as opposed to the rectangular circuits I was taught YMMB. Does anyone have any views on this? I think technically it is not that big a change and in some ways might be easier as in terms of when to turn that is pretty much governed by a constant bank....... Just seems a little strange or perhaps just something I have not come across before. Sorry for the long post but any thoughts would be appreciated. J
  2. Hi Zarniwoop, I did up to my solo with MFS and could not recommend them highly enough. I loved the Warriors (and they were in great condition) and the instructors were always friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I flew with Kim Von Der Lippe there and he was great. Let me know if you have any other specific questions I might be able to answer....... J
  3. Hi Decca, Thanks for that - and nope - the bikes are definitely off the agenda now!! They hurt when you get knocked off! Flying is a MUCH safer hobby. J
  4. Hi All, My name's Jason and I started flying about 3.5 years ago at YMMB and achieved my first solo after about 18 hours with lots of intermittent lessons. Then I had a bike accident and after recovering and moving interstate to Brisbane recently decided to get back into it. I will be flying out of Archerfield in a PIPER Cherokee (I started on Warrior IIIs and wanted to stay in the same type if possible). First brief is this weekend with a new instructor so hopefully all will go OK. Feel really rusty but it was funny in looking over the plane last week realised most of the theory, checks, and memories still seem to be there. If only that translates into remembering what to do practically........! J
  5. Thanks all, I reviewed the guides but unfortunately since this has only come in since the transition from GAAP to class D a little later this year, the guides are a little dated and only state that clearance may be required. I guess ground would make sense...... and like stated above if that's the wrong freq. they will no doubt let me know! J
  6. Sorry - another question...... That would be on tower or SMC (ground) freq? J
  7. Hi All, Just after a quick clarification on the appropriate call for a location which requires start approval required for circuit operations........ Tried searching but couldn't seem to find any reference for it. Thanks, J
