  2. As an RAA member though a bit isolated from the mainstream of events I find the content of the forum to be quite unsettling.. Is the Sun really falling?? It seems the long time policy of poor communication and "keepem in the dark and feedem on mushroom food" has got us to the situation we are in, now where everything is anecdotal and no one is sure of anything... With the communication facilities available in this modern age it would seem RAA should be updating members of events as they happen and thereby quell speculation and rumour.....Dysfunctional come to mind when I think about the management style... I don't personally have the expertise , education, or knowledge of constitutional matters, and am not able to do more than read the forums, try to form a viewpoint, and hope that when the time for elections comes I can make the right choices...............B

  3. They perfected fuel management with the Vulcan episode in the Falklands war. To really appreciate what was achieved it is an advantage to have done some long range flying ( orat least thought hard about the variables). The Concorde ops are another example. Fuel management and weight and balance were always 100% correct required, subjects. Nev

Just finished reading a book called "Vulcan 607" the story of the Falklands bombing raid... rivetting stuff.. B

  4. It seems that the lessons in respect of "communication with members" have still not been learned by the current mangement team who have adopted a "Custers Last Stand" mentality... Maybe I will take up "Senior Marbles" as we dont seem to be going an ywhere at present...........B

  5. PeopleThe group Im a part of has asked the exec as to its plans for the GM in terms of location and ability to cope with a crowd. What we dont understand though is if it will be me and the group Im part of and a few locals, or half the organisation.

To that end can I get people to vote if they will be physically attending Canberra on the 9th of Feb 2013. If you are part of a group and you can see that no one else in the group has voted (just click on the link in show results to see who has already said they will be there) can you add a reply saying something along the lines of ".....and 6 others" so we can work out if we are talking about 10-100 or 1000

I realise this isnt scientific in that we cant get the whole of the RAAus membership response, but if we can see that there will be 100+ physical people there and the room only holds 50 then we know automatically we have a problem and can try and get it resolved before the issue is apparent on the day when nothing can be done about it....

This poll has nothing to do with proxys, that will be addressed in coming weeks, rather its just about how many bums we need seats for.

Again, if you choose the 2nd poll option please ensure that someone else in the group hasnt already voted that way. I realise it isnt exact but its orders of magnitude that we need.

    Andy

Would there be any value in adding a "proxy vote" option to your survey?? just a thought.....Cheers B

  6. Ladies and Gents. I have found this current conversation one of the best I have read on this forum. I believe the board needs a complete makeover. Currently we have 13 members that are not working on a common cause. I have asked about a business plan but have received no answer yet. There used to be one but I think it's been parked and not followed of recent times. I have offered to take in on but with so much I find you get no feedback if others have no interest in the topic you wish to discuss. This is a problem with not having regular face to face meetings. Currently the Exec are also acting as GM/CEO, even before the CEO left I think they were part of the day to day decissions which was a huge mistake but that may have been caused because we didn't have good manager.I also agree that the exec are servants of the board however that is not every board members view. My understanding is the office bearers take on extra work because they want to assist the board to a higher level. They can also make 'urgent' decisions which are time contrained however this is not how it's running at the moment.

Another issue I see is that people make their way to the board without any real governance experience. I don't see this as a problem if the member 'wants to learn' but what I am finding in some conversations they just think they know best. At times I suspect the constitution and code of conduct have not been read or if so not understood.

All I can honestly say to the members of this forum is unless the current dynamic of the board is changed then we will see no change to the board and in my honest opinion it is currently disfuctional. If some of the comments via email and forums to which I am privy to between board members that I will not publish here were exchanged at my workplace you would be sacked within a week.

Regards and hoping for a future for the RAA and a good one at that.

    Jim Tatlock.

Jim.. If I had not already given my proxy vote to a Qld rep who appears to be on the same track as you it would be yours... Good luck....Bernieh

  7. I agree with most of what you said Maj... What bothers me most is that we as members were not kept in the loop of what was happening....A couple of emails I sent to SR were given the good old " don't you worry about that" type answers and I firmly believe that as members we deserve more............B
