  1. the sails on my sb drifter have given up...after pricing new sails from Australia I am thinking that dacron shrink may be the answer however the distance between the battens is to far , 24 inches and it would seem that 12 inches would be a better placing....is there anyone that has recovered their drifter of sb drifter with shrink dacron [ceconite] ect...any help thanks, Steve

  2. well if finally happened...new sails are needed for my strut braced drifter...not worried about the tail surfaces as I have recovered with dacron... the wings are an other issue and I don't seem to be able to locate a sail maker with the sb pattern for the wing...any help will be very appreciated...thanks..Steve

  3. I have about 45 hours on the Drifter...the 582 has really impressed me with its power...so far no problems with the Rotax and the flying has been just about the most fun Ive had flying...the tail shutter turned out to be a stall warning [stalls are so mild that the warning is not important]...for anyone that is thinking of the Aussie Drifter SB to purchase I say 100% yes...the weight of the SB has in no way caused any issues for me in fact the extra weight has allowed the plane to fly in some wicked winds that a lighter aircraft would not be able to handle...this is just a great overall fun aircraft.....

  4. Finally finished the 582 drifter SB rebuild and what fun it is to fly...have about 2 hours on it ...no issues as it preforms really well....the only issue is the wacky tail shutter that I get around 50 mph...not dangerous but enough of a worry that I will want to do some modifications to the tail section to stiffen it up....has any other drifter drivers had a similar issue and if so what are your safety thoughts and are there any mods that you know of...thanks for any comments or thoughts....Steve

thank you...... don't know why I didn't do a search on that.....seems that it is a bit normal....I'll just fly the crap out of it and enjoy....thanks again for the info....

  7. I am new to the forum and am looking for info on the Aussie Drifter 582sb...I have purchased one and don't know enough about the true performance to know if I should do a full on restoration or just enjoy it as is...I have owned several Cubs the last one being a J5A with a c90 and have been told that the Drifter sb has close to the same characteristics as the J5...any thoughts... stol is important as I fly out of a 700 ft strip..I'm several months from getting the Drifter in the air so I will be asking many questions...hope I don't drive youall crazy but any help will be appreciated, thanks
