  1. Hey guys, so my kit is finally getting towards the pointy end and I am getting ready to ship the aircraft to Albion park airport to finish of the final touches such as putting the wings on ect. So I was wondering if anyone knew of anyone willing to rent some hangar space to me for a short period of time, I am hoping no more then 2 weeks but worst case scenario 4 weeks. More then happy to pay what ever the going rate these days. It's only a small 2 seat high wing aircraft.

    Thank you ! ☺

  2. Hi Guys just wondering what your opinions are on the black max brakes, i am looking at purchasing the bx1320 kit for a seaplane, what would you think the sealing would be like on the bearings as I am concerned about seizing of the wheel due to corrosion from salt water.

Also what is the holding force like for a rotax 912 100hp for full power engine runs

Thank You your opinions are appreciated

  3. I did my ra-Aus at Jaspers brush near Nowra in a jabiru which they don't have anymore. Yeah the conversion at Gostner at Camden for a full ppl. They have a vh rego jabiru j-160 which is handy. For the ppl test you have to fly into class c airspace so it was a Nav down to Canberra, so it was a few hours once you go there and back. Hard to say mate about the cost as I haven't added it up full but at a guess well under 5000. But that's including a constant speed and retractable endorsement that I got in that price. Talk to David there very helpful and a very good instructor. Here is his number if you're interested 0414 788 105

  4. Since I became a free agent, I have spent a few days knocking on doors on Bankstown Airport trying to sell my services. The future for General Aviation and, by flow-on, Recreational Aviation looks bleak. Many of the doors I knocked on were on empty hangars with "For Lease" signs on them. Often when my knocks were answered, the occupants told me that the amount of work had dropped off significantly, to the extent that many of the older people were considering closing up and heading off into retirement. These are people with years of experience in some of the more specialised areas of aircraft maintenance such as propeller repair and overhaul, carburetor repair and overhaul, and instrument repair and overhaul. The worst part of this scenario is that there are no young people working in these areas and having the skills passed on to them.

Then yesterday I was heard a rumour that the Padstow TAFE is going to stop providing courses for apprentices working in the aviation industry. This year there are 19 apprentices in Year One. What are they going to do if the TAFE closes the course? What are aircraft owners going to do in the next 10 to 15 years when there is no one qualified to do those specialist repairs that come up sometimes on a regular basis.

For Recreational flyers, where are we going to get the people to recommend others for L2 licences? Where are we going to get the qualified people who will be L4s?

I have just started my first year as an apprentice aircraft engineer in GA, this year in tafe at padstow there is 7 first years in the class in which 4 of them just do gas turbine engines, so that leaves 3 of us to become Engine and Airframe engineers, there is also still talk if shutting padstow tafe down and moving the whole operation to tamworth, but there is only one other RTO approved by casa in NSW but they don't train the apprentices, from what I've heard they want to but there is something political in the way. So it seems as every year there is less & less apprentices training to become LAME's

  5. I recently flew with my dad to Narromine Ausfly, I flew a brumby low wing (very nice plane to fly btw) on arrival I contacted ground and stated where I would like to park and they directed to me to the appropriate area. Once I shut down I opened the canopy and had noticed a guy walking over to the plane in a yellow vest, I initially thought it was going to be a ramp check, turns out he wanted to do a breath test. But he walked over to the right side of the plane where my dad was sitting and wanted to breath test him, I found this quite surprising that someone from casa did not know which side the pilot sat, dad told him he wasn't the pilot and he was quite surprised and came over to breath test me, he also didn't realise that I was a minor and he then had ask my dad for permission for me to provide a breath sample. So I was really surprised on the lack of knowledge from this casa officer
