  1. An incident with a Rotax 912 ULS Bing carburetor

On turning on the fuel in my plane, even without the electric fuel pump on, fuel was pouring from the bottom of the motor enclosure, it was found that the co-pilots carburetor was literally pouring out of the bottom of the fuel bowl though a hole about 1mm in diameter.

On the removal of the bowl, it was found that the outer float was laying over in the bowl along with its holding pin.

On further testing, it was found that the fuel pump could keep the bowl full of fuel and the float working even though the fuel was pouring out of the hole in the bottom of the carburettor. The problem was fixed, but, is this a design fault? If the hole didn’t go right through the carburetor bowl and the same thing happened, then the fuel then would not have been able to escape and become a fire hazard. We were lucky it was found before flight.

I have a feeling that this has been happening for a while as sometimes when I did the pre-takeoff checks, I would wipe my finger under the co-pilots side carburettor and there was an orangey fuel stain, consequently, I have taken the bowl off to have a look at the bowl seal but only to find nothing obvious. The pin must have been loose but not loose enough to fall out of it’s mounting hole.

  2. Hi folks

Have been trolling around in the threads and seen plenty about 912 oil pressure senders not sending the right info to the gauge.

However my question is, has anyone had a sensor that has begun to leak.  I think mine is leaking a bit of oil, although it is had to discern exactly where it is coming from as it get blown around a bit.

    Thoughts....?

Hi FriarPuk, I had this happen with my Rotax, I noticed it on after 30 hours on the motor, I replaced the pump. Cheers Gyro

  3. Hi All,

There doesn't seem to be much said about the Foxbat A22 in this forum, so I was wondering, does that mean it is good or otherwise, I am wondering what the owners and pilots with airtime with this craft says,

    Cheers

  4. Hi,I am wondering which fixed wing planes have the following options:

2 seater, tricycle wheel configuration, trailerable (so the enclosed trailer can become the hangar/folding wing option of course) and has a cruise speed of at least 75 knots - any engine.

I can only think of the sykranger (with removable wing kit but that one you need 2 people and looks fiddly).

    Any ideas out there?

For single seaters there's more choice. I think the sadler vampire is the only true single person foldable wing plane for the above specification unless anyone else knows of another. I would be interested to know your thoughts.

    Regards,

    Azhar

    Hi Azhar,

I went to Horsham (Victoria) and had a fly of the Eurofox, If I didn't know better, I'd say it was a Skyfox Gazzelle in all respects but with a better performance (with the 100hp motor), very nice, the only critism I have with both the Skyfox and Eurofox was the headroom, if you were 6 feet high, your head would (I think) touch the roof struts (not the roof itself). It has all the criteria you asked about and is VERY nice,

    cheers

    Garry
