  1. Welcome B3rn ,

I recently was in the same position of having my Gfpt before having a small break from flying due to kids , career etc.

I have only just now converted it to an Rpl then PPL. I only intend to fly privately.

I highly recommend you speak with Rod at Flightscope Aviation at YBAF, He is a fantastic instructor and was very patient with me!

  2. thanks mate,

As for the test I was expecting everything my only advice is just make sure you Always In front of the aircraft with ground speed checks and planning descents. Also expect your diversions

I already had my gfpt when I started with ra aus so I had the solo time up after my first solo nav and he signed me off for pax at the same time.

Where abouts are you flying from?

  3. Well after a few false starts I finally achieved my dream of getting my x country exam yesterday in the trusty j160. Our trip took us from ybaf-ycas-yspe with a diversion and air work along the way.

I can now look forward to seeing some of the country side! My flying school pathfinder aviation is getting a new cessna 162 and piper sport which should a bit of fun to fly

Now time to start planning my next nav!

    Cheers jordan.

  4. Hi guys ,

Following from this thread I received my cross country cert yesterday and plan to do some sight seeing the other half.

What would you recommend visiting given that it would be my very first cross country flight with the other half and don't want to push it too early on! My Instructor mentioned tyagarah stip with easy access to Byron.

I will be flying from Archerfield

  5. Hi Guys,

My biggest thing that gets me everytime is understanding and decoding weather forcasts. I always seem to get confused

Is anyone able to give me a quick rundown on this example.

  6. Crash? Forced landing is hardly called a crash. Did he turn the fuel tap off before landing? Make sure all is off when your done with the flaps and radio call etc. At 22 years old he would hardly be called a seasoned pilot but he acted like one.

I was referring to the Parkinson "forced landing"

  7. We may have to call them "paddockfinder" aviation - 2 in one month. Great job dougie- looked so cool the student may have as well thought it was just practice! Finally some good positive coverage by the media on channel 10 tonightYes/ agree to all the above comments .

Pathfinder aviation have had 2 in one month?

  8. Hi Bigfella,

I can relate to your situation, i had passed my gfpt in september last year and realised there was no point going all the way with a ppl if i didnt intend to use the privlages that comes with it. i have started flying a j170 out of archerfield and loving every minute of it, currently i have 1 more nav until my cross country test.

  9. Thanks guys. I decided to venture to caboolture today to check out go fly. Silly me didn't realise go fly doesn't have a manned office! So I didn't get s chance to meet anyone however I spoke to Neil and he seemed great. On the way back home I popped into pathfinder aviation and they were very well set up. This suits me flying ra out of archerfield too Anyway booked next Wednesday morning to have a go at the j170d. Will let you all know how it goes. Thanks

  10. Thanks for the replies guys. Being a left handed myself the only concern was flying a jab right handed! After all I spose it would be something I could get used too. From all reports go fly caboolture seems to be the pick. Has anyone delt with pathfinder aviation as they are closed at ybaf. Tomo I don't believe vh kjr is online anymore and their only g1000 172 is always in hot demand. Cheers

  11. Quite an easy process. I believe it's a 5 hour minimum conversion if you already have enough GA hours up your sleeve.Another good option for you will be the new Recreational Pilots Licence (RPL) that's replacing the GFPT later in the year. Will have all the same qualities as the RA-Aus Pilots certificate however it will allow flight in aircraft up to 1500kg. To the RPL you will be able to add a controlled airspace endorsement also. If you're interested in the top-end RA-Aus aircraft then you're a perfect candidate for the RPL. The only thing you might miss is the ability to do your own maintenance although not everyone (i'm a good example) is interested in doing that.

Thanks for the into, thats good to know, i think i am best to head over to a few schools and pick their brains!

  12. Hi Guys,

I am currently a PPL student based at Ybaf and always had the intention of going all the way to CPL.

I have now realised with my current job that all i want to do is fly for fun, private use, aircraft ownership down the track.

Most of my flying to date has been on the pa38 and G1000 172, The issue i have is that the flight school i go to only have the 1 aircaft and with my busy job its impossible to get in with less than 2 weeks notice.

Ra appeals to me with the newer modern aircraft without all the hassells of Ga licencing etc, at the end of the day most of my flying will be cross country, flying outside cta doesnt bother me at all.

I have been a member on here for a while now and seem quite interested on what Ra has to offer me.

I am hoping to get some advice on Ra schools, Currently at archerfield Patherfinder aviation seems to be the only place however the jabiru doesnt impress me with the centre control yoke, maybe i would get used to it but at this stage this has put me off.

Another flight school "Go Fly Aviation " seems to have good reviews with a mix of aircraft (P92 Texans) and instructors. At this stage most schools in brisbane/Caboolture charge $235 P/hr dual

Can anyone give me some advice going to Ra from Ga?

    Thanks!

  13. Well after 13 hours i finally went solo yesterday at ybaf! what a feeling, it didnt really hit me until turning base and realising im the only one that can land the plane!

Anyway back to more solo circuits for the time being but any idea how i can listen to air traffic during my solo time online it was on sunday the 4th at 9.30am.
