  1. Sounds like no one here is into power chutes at the moment.

Just in case another newbie is looking here I did my conversion with Stephen Conte Aerochute industries in Werribee.

For me it was expensive , flights accommodation  instruction tranfers etc but there is a very limited number of options in Australia

However the professional training and genuine interest in ones learning was worth it.

I have placed an order for a Hummerchute and look forward to my new aviation adventure.

    Cheers

  2. RAA , I joined this group because I wanted a simple way to fly without the highly regulated crap that GA is.

I don't need to go 100 knots I am happy at 65 knots and I don't need to fly 200 kilometres I just want to to get in my self maintained aircraft and enjoy being airborne without having to having to sit a test to have a bit of paper that says that I can maintain my aircraft ,as I have done for 12 years quite successfully , I don't need to be forced to have my aircraft inspected by an L2 every year or two so I can keep CASA happy if I think there is a problem I get a LAME to inspect , I will not get in an aircraft I think has a problem , my ass is way more important than CASSA.

So I am selling my plane , very sadly I admit , but I can not see an RAA in the future that suits my flying desires.

Maybe if the RAA didn't get greedy wanting fast highly complex aircraft then they wouldn't be in the position it is in now being regulated as if we were GA. We started off with slow and fun , pity it didn't stay that way.

I won't respond to any replys ,sorry but I am out of here, good luck to all of you hope RAA gives you what you want in your flying future.

  3. @@metalman2 make sure it is the one that is filled with Fish Oil as there were some made the accident without it and I think, if I recall properly, that Fish Oil filled was in the AD.

That AD came out due to the wing snapping off a Gazelle that was doing a Christmas Lolly Drop and both father and son were killed

I don't think that is correct the accident you are referring to was a Skyfox not a gazelle and the wing was lost after severe overload.

  4. Thanks everyoneThere was info missing from the rego sheet which I filled out and made sure all was complete sent copies of all the revelant pics so I am hoping there is not going to be any surprises .

    Cheers

    Well

Here is the update on my rego. In 2006 the l2 who was looking after my plane at the time fitted the required strut carry through update and informed me he would complete and send in the paperwork. A request for the paperwork some weeks later from the raa was again given to him and he promised to send required paperwork in.

I have heard nothing since then until my rego was refused until paperwork is completed.

I have no qualms with the rego process that is currently in progress as I am a stickler for procedure myself however it is very hard to make sure all is complete when people like this L 2 don't do their jobs and I was not notified at some other time that things were not complete so I could chase this up.

Lucky I have a copy of the invoice so I can ask for a copy of the required paperwork then get a another L2 to sign off on the work

  5. Has anyone had experience trailering a Gazelle on a regular basis eg store at home and trailer to field.

A fully enclosed trailer with soft ride would be the best in my mind but I have not seen or heard of such a trailer.

    Any help or suggestions appreciated

    Thanks

  7. I have just sent in my rego renewal . I have made sure that all the info on the sheet that came with the renewal was filled out and sent copies of the rego numbers photos and placards .

Any idea how long it will take for completion . My Gazelle has been registered for a long time with RAAus.

  8. Hey

No worries guys. Really, this is just a snippet of the weekend. I cant post all the pics on here. It is a really worth while Airshow to go to and with the AUD so good, not too expensive either.Scotty 080_plane.gif.36548049f8f1bc4c332462aa4f981ffb.gif

    Scotty

Great photos we were there just before the airshow but had to fly home didn't know this even existed

    What camera did you use

    Cheers

  9. Interesting thing...was talking to Steve Bell the other day and he is working with CASA and others to get a new Certificate for the Gazelle/Skyfox, much the same as what Wayne does with the Drifter, so a Gazelle/Skyfox goes in to the workshop, the plate is removed, and it comes out as a X Gazelle or X Skyfox. A new Certificate that will allow for the A engine to be replaced with an UL engine, Bolly prop, new spa life etc etc etc...a completely new certified aircraft.Great on Steve Bell for initiating this and great for all the Gazelle/Skyfox owners out there...they really are a great aircraft

    Hello Ian

Where can I get more information on this Certifcate

    Thanks

Hi Barandbrew,As Carl has stated there have been no proceedures set down for measuring excess play in the bushes in question, certainly none that I am aware of; it hasn't been an issue before. I am currently disscussing this with an ex. Skyfox employee who made the actual 4130 brackets and we are trying to come up with a solution for replacing the bushes if it is indeed possible. I believe tomorrow evening I will be able to give you some usefull info. Thanks again, paul.

    Thanks Carl and Paul

This has been a very informative thread with advice given by experts with this aircraft It is very much appreciated by myself and others I am sure

    Thanks again

John: Remember, this is a flexible wing. The original ailerons before certification were one piece. When loaded in flight, the wing bends enough such that the original one-piece ailerons jammed solid. That's what Llewellyn was testing. That's why the ailerons are now segmented. The wings still bend in flight and so does the full length of aileron. Play when the wing is unloaded on the ground does not necessarily mean play in flight. I suspect that you need some degree of clearance in those bushes to prevent binding in flight. So long as the bushes are still in one piece, I don't think I would worry about it, unless the aileron as a whole rattles around. The wings can flex inches in flight. I think the one bush you should pay attention to is the one that constrains the torque tube where it emerges from the fuselage/turtle deck, based on the experience of my friend Tony Curzon who once suffered aileron flutter. I'm not an expert in this matter. Few people are. Llewellyn is.Carl

    Thanks Carl

Yes the plastic bushes are all in one piece it looks like wear to me however I am not sure what is acceptable . The airframe has 1790hrs not a real lot compared to other Gazelles so I may not have a problem however I would like to know for sure.( GA LAME has done a airframe check last year however I was not in attendance to point out my concern)

    John

  12. Hmm, this is an interesting question. I'm assuming your referring to the "plastic" bushes between the aileron spars and the 4130 steel tube sections which are welded to the two flat sections which in turn are bolted to the ply hangers. There are no bushes in the ply hangers themselves, just two AN bolts running through the 4130 flat metal sections and the ply. There will be slight movement side to side with the steel tube sections , but I don't believe there should be play in the bushes up and down or forward and backwards. What sort of play are you experiencing? The ailerons were built seperately to the wing structures by another fellow so I'm not positively sure about proceedures for replacing these bushes; from memory the bushes were inserted whilst the ailerons were being built and then the whole lot was glued and rivetted. I will endeavour to find out more about this and get back to you as soon as I have the correct info. Thanks for the question, cheers paul.

    Thanks Paul

Yes the plastic bushes round the aileron tube it is only slight play but I would like to take it out if possible. I can see no way of doing this apart from taking the whole aileron apart.

    Thanks John

  13. Hi Jeff

Yes we did the mechanical setup. Dont really understand why this should happen it seems the carbies need a certain dampening the new flanges wont give. Very frustrating when you have a perfectly good engine do the required maintance set by the manufacturer and now you cant fly.

    Will keep trying

  14. On the weekend we replaced the rubber flangers on my Gazelle with new ones. The motor would not idle without advancing the throtle and then flooded badly with fuel coming out of the overflow pipes. We checked everything 10 times and eventually put the old flanges back on and the problem dissapeared. Wally from Floods says it must be something wrong with the carbies . The new flanges are way stiffer than the old. Last 100 hr we replaced the main needle and jets/vacume rubbers and floats. If anyone has any idea where we start to look it would be great.

    Thanks in advance

  15. HI peter

I have just changed the rubber flanges on my Gazelle and guess what

The motor wouldnt idle without advancing the throtle even though the only thing changed was the flanges and after a short run the motor flooded with fuel pouring out the overflow we spent hours trying to work out what we had done wrong finally putting the old flanges back on and presto all was fine again.

I will be calling Floods on Monday and sure hope they have a solution. The new rubber is way stiffer than the old.

  16. HI Deadstick

I have had this problem with my Gazelle since I purchased it 6 years ago.

On the weekend we did a 100 hr service I mentioned this to my LAME an told him that I found when swaping the fuel caps over it reversed the drain. I had been expermenting with the position of the vents to air flow as it is obviously a pressure problem on inspection he found that the spring metal that holds the caps secure is made of different material one has a strong spring action the other weak. We adjusted this and I hope it will cure my problem . I will let you know when next I fly.

Hope this helps as it has been bugging me since I bought the aircraft

    John
