Here's some more film from Cockerham:Lovely green country side. From Google Earth the strip looks about 560 metres long. The Caravan is a big aircraft to put down in that length, although it does have the ability to use reverse thrust. The people at the end of the strip obviously trust the pilot to stop in time and in a straight line! -

Looks so modern tho'. It seems the future happened back in the 1960sLooks like a cross between a paper dart & a dragon & cost $US1.5 billion in the 60s. What would that be in todays dollars? The project was cancelled in 1961 due to the introduction of ICBMs, but they carried on & built 2 prototypes that flew in 1964. One crashed after a midair collision in 1966 & the other retired in 1969 & is now in the US Airforce national museum in Ohio. -
