  1. I have wired up my com radio and everything works except when I connect the mic socket to the metal dash I get a hum( grounding feedback issue) ?

If I hold the socket in the air, nothing I hum, If it touches the metal fuse then the hum. Somone told me to isolate the socket by heat shrinking the threaded part and fiber washers on each side of the nuts..

Never heard of this before.. Is that the normal installation or will it be just hiding an issue.

The other common problem area of vulnerability to RF feedback is the MIC input circuit and, in particular, the outer shield running from the headset to the inside of the radio via the MIC ground input (which is not the same as the other grounds such as power and should not be connected to any other grounds). In extreme cases it is therefore necessary to insulate the MIC jack mounting to achieve this and stepped plastic washers are available for the purpose.

Plastic and rag aeroplanes are particularly vulnerable to RF feedback.

    Good luck!

  3. Hi I am currently building 601XL / 650

Depending on the value of the dollar

kit about $35,000 depending on options,

Engine new $25- 30000 depends on what you want,

Avionics. Depends again,$10-15000 on what you want.

    Paint and seats, up to,$10,000

So you have about a $80-90,000 brad new 2 seater, that you built and can maintain.

Buy a second hand XL or 650 for around $50-60000 and you need a Lame to maintain.

Are you in for the build, the fly, both or just because it's cheaper to operate at first glance..?

  4. First, I completely agree with those questioning the name 'Ozkosh'. Totally irrelevant to us. Doesn't the location of the planned Aussie event have a name? Why can't we use that? Actually, I quite liked 'Natfly'. That meant something to me.Second, if it's legal to fly without a radio then I don't see why it should be any different at a particular event. Personally I don't understand why anybody would want to fly without one, and I'd like to think most aviators were sufficiently responsible to see the benefits to themselves and their fellow pilots. But I say no to additional regulation at the event.

    Alan.

Natfly was a SAAA run national fly in .. Ozkosh is being run by a separate group who jumped in when the SAAA internally did not have the time or effort to run it this year. This year it's back to the basics. A flyin for all types of aviation. No air show to keep the costs down and allow people to wonder around and look at all the aircraft.

  5. We need one national fly in for all types. RA, SAA, Warbirds, Antiquers. What a great weekend that would be! I would cross the country to attend.

Ausfly 15. Attendees by RAA, SAAA, warbirds and others. Let's go and help the township of Naramine.
