  1. Hi all,

With the impending meeting in Canberra regarding RAAUS/AUF I wonder if we are really losing sight of our heritage??? and maybe we should STOP and rethink ------ what we are --- where we are ----- and where we want to go ???

    Just a thought starter.

  2. Hi All,

This lot of photos is for those of you who are too young to have experienced this disaster and too those of you who remember and too any of you --- who like me went out every day and assisted in the relief operation, the joys of being in the Marine industry and owning a boat.

Here are some nostalgic photos of "THE BIG FLOOD" of '74.

http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/gallery-e6freon6-1225937772687 <<<< go this link to see all the photos.

Two photos [803648 & 804565] are of the area now know as south Bank and that is where the service department used to be, in '74, under water and 2 foot of silt covered the floor after the waters receded, and it took months of very hard and dirty, smelly work to clean the place. --- YUK!!

Photo 771514 is a dredge wedged under the Centenary bridge at Jindalee and if you wanted a beer at the regatta Hotel then you had to own a boat.

Let's hope this doesn't ever happen again.

  3. Hi Tomo, Just loved this video and I agree with David you are blessed with the BEST flying country, no Tigers out your way ;-))

With regard the landing fee at Chinchilla, yes there no landing fees there --- but I had to stick it to my good mate Bob after that landing ;-)) a bit of poetic licence, sorry about that. ;-)) see you soon, Pete.

    • My friend Mike goes for an aerobatic and low level flight in a Chinese fighter aircraft a Nanchang CJ-6

Mike, who is already a pilot had this desire to do some aerobatic flying, something he can't do in his own aircraft as it's not certified for that type of flying.

So the Nanchang did the trick, hope you enjoy the video as much as Mike enjoyed the flight.

  5. Hi Chris,

    Sorry for the delay in replying.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

We tracked direct from Temora to <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City><st1:place>Wollongong</st1:place></st1:City> -- 2.6Hrs, with an enforced overnight stay in the 'Gong' [rain]--- but I'm glad now it happened as we got to meet the guys from HARS and did a tour of the great work they do.<o:p></o:p>

From the 'Gong' we went via Victor 1 to Camden Haven [Dick Smith's old place] then on to Port Macquarie for fuel and then home to YCAB, total flying time for that day was 6.2Hrs ---- YWOL > YTRE [landed but no fuel available] 2.4Hrs, YTRE > YCMH [land and morning tea with our host and hostess] 0.4Hrs, YCMH > YPMQ [fuel] 0.4Hrs, YPMQ via coastal to YCAB 3.0Hrs.<o:p></o:p>

There was no discernable difference between the 160 and the 170, we were both at our MTOW on each of the legs and the 170 may have half a poofteenth quicker, but there was nothing in it.<o:p></o:p>

Thanks for the invite, my fellow conspirators on that trip to YTEM are just inching for a new adventure, so I will stoke some hot coals under their backsides and let you know what happens, I would love to do a trip to Bathurst and will be in touch soon.<o:p></o:p>

    Best regards, Pete. <o:p></o:p>

  6. Dear Turboplanner,

I thank you for your reply and especially the fact that you were able to understand and interpret the ‘stick drawings’ as set out in the RA-Aus ops manual, however that particular rule has absolutely no bearing on the case in point, this glider had NO intention of using the active runway in any other purpose except to use it as a shortcut.

It’s just a pity that you are unable or unwilling to understand the point of my comments.

They, the people in question in my video, have a legal, moral and ethical obligation to all other aviators to ensure that they use the area designated as the runway in the safest way possible.

    I am certain that just hooking up your glider to a vehicle and dragging it across a very busy active runway is downright dangerous much in the same way as not making a ‘crossing a runway’ call at multiple runway airfields and without fulfilling your obligations to;

    • Listen out to all calls from all aircraft in the circuit area and any aircraft that may be making a ‘intention’ call maybe joining the circuit, joining x-wind, joining downwind or a call from say 10/5 nm inbound call.

    • Ensuring that you make visual confirmation that there are NO aircraft turning base, on final or perhaps another glider on short final, can the glider do a ‘go around?’

    • And horror, how about an aircraft without a radio remembering that YCAB and any number of other airfields are NOT CTAF [R] airfields, so in that case do you suggest that their actions are justified because the pilot without the radio would never have heard their radio call anyhow??

    • Do you just proceed onto a runway without 1. Making an ‘entering runway call. 2. And visually ensuring that it is safe to do so. NO!!

. Again let me attempt to put an end to this nonsense I do NOT wish to make a Federal case out of it, I just want others to understand that THEY ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES USING THE RUNWAY, so LOOK, LISTEN and COMMUNICATE your intentions.

In the interest of the safety of all!!

Perhaps you should also read skeptic36’ comments as he appears to have a grasp on my intentions.

Now if you have no objections I wish to put an end to the ‘Comment tennis’

    Pete.
