  1. I realize that there was a thread on this topic in 2008, but maybe there is now more experience with landing the Jabiru J230.

I make normal (and very good) landings with a final approach speed of 65 knots with 20 to 30 degrees of flaps. However, I am having difficulty landing a J230 on fields less than 2500 feet. I would appreciate advice that included final approach speeds and flap setting, etc.

I have been told by instructors (with no Jabiru experience) to use some power with high pitch on final. In essence drag it in.

  2. Thank you for your responses. However, the new rotor replacement (in the U.S.) are of poorer quality than the GB73 Bosch rotor.

I may have been able to order the Bosch rotor from an Australian company. My question: is there a good replacement for the Bosch GB73? rotors?

  3. In the U.S. we have been told that the original rotors are no longer available. The new replacement rotors are too loose and are unacceptable. Is this a known problem and if so is there a known solution?

  4. It is not unusual for the tanks of the J230 to drain unequally. However, I suspect that having one tank drain completely is an indication of a problem.

I suggest that you contact Pete ( who is very knowledgeable about JABIRU) at JABIRU USA for his response. I have a 2009 J230 and live in a suburb north of Chicago.

  5. 1. I don't think that at Five Feet eight inches you will have any problem reaching the pedals.

You may want to add more foam inside the seat cushion; I did. You can get rudder pedals that

can be extended about 2 inches. I am 5 ft. 7 inches and do not use the installed pedal extension.

    2. I recently purchased and installed sun screen from a Jabiru site in England. They also

cover only about 40 % but seem to work well. Total cost including shipping was about $65.

    3. I have not had a problem with front windscreen fogging in my J230.

  6. I have a TRUTRAK autopilot which was installed in my J230 as an option

when I purchased the plane two years ago in the USA. It is linked to my GPS.

It has worked well and makes long flights more enjoyable. It does not work well

    in moderate turbulance.

  7. The door braket that holds the strap that keeps the door from swinging open too far has come somewhat loose. I know that it must be repaired from inside the door frame but do not know how to do this. Has anyone had the same experience repairing this bracket?

    Oh, by the way...G'day

  8. Free 12 mew Iridium plugs to a deserving Australian

    Gentlemen,

I had bought 12 Iridium plugs to be installed during my annual J230 inspection, but the mechanic recommended not to use them. I would be happy to mail them to an Australian Jabiru owner in appreciation for all the good advice I have received over the past year.

  9. The ferrite chokes you fitted just around the sensor cables from engine? Is this correct?

I removed each of the three units and placed the filters on the data

cables. I placed them as close to the units as possible. I put filters

on each of the three cables connected to the primary EFIS unit; one

filter on the cable connected to the other EFIS unit and two or three

    onto the EIS cables.

Actually I did this three weeks ago but weather, a stuck hangar door and

a trip to Florida delayed the flight test.

  10. I installed ferrite filters on all data cables to both EFIS units and the EIS

The EFIS and EIS are manufactured by Grand Rapids Technology.

I flew for over 90 minutes today without any false warning due to RF spikes. That is .... no false warnings!

Before installing the ferrite filters I would get many, many false warnings. Generally four or five a minute.

This is only the first flight after installing the filters so it may be too early

to declare that the problem is solved, but the change was certainly dramatic.

  11. Hi, Slarty yes thats the one D9EIX i have used them for about 250 hours now,i would not go back to D9EA's now.You can get them on special at super cheap every now and again for about $15.Rory

    Derby,

I'm somewhat confused about changing the gap on the D9EIX Iridium plugs.

It appears that the post is very fragile and easily broken. Also there are comments

about the need for a larger than specified gap. Did you change the gap according to

the 3300 engine manual or did you install them out of the box?

I have now purchased 12 D9EIX plugs and plan to install them at the 100 hour inspection.

  12. HI JIM im no expert, but i didnt change the gap, although they were wider than the normal plugs. They need a wide gap to work properly.Cheer

After reading the comments about iridium plugs I ordered 12 of them.

I would like to get confirmation on your statement about not changing the gap in accordance with the JABIRU 3300 engine manual.

  13. I own a J230 and would be delighted to install a toe brake modification.

I think that it is a safety issue beside being a convenience. Jabiru USA states

that there is insufficient room to install toe brakes. I don't think that's true.

I still push on my imaginary toe brakes in my J230.

  14. Since new (August 2009) my J230 has experienced electronic spikes

emanating from the the 3300 engine. Probably from the ignition system.

The spikes cause a spurious warning light with an out of limit message on my EFIS

such as "EGT TEMP" or "CHT TEMP". The warnings last about one second

and appear often. Jabiru USA has not been able to determine the cause.

Has this problem occured in Australian built J230s? has anyone had the

same experience and determined the cause?

For your information, U.S. built J230 use EFIS systems manufactured by

    Grand Rapids Technology.

With your continuing help I will eventually get all the problems with my

    J230 corrected.

  15. What are the manufacturers recommendations. 60 deg from what???? I'm with Modest, My a/c is a tail wheel and I like the prop horizontal.

    Senswhich installation instructions are

    1. Position piston in cylinder one at the top of the cylinder.

    2. Install prop at 10:00 and 4:00 o'clock.

The prop stops at random positions.

  16. I have replaced the Senswitch wood propeller on my U.S. J230

with another Senswitch wood propeller. I have been told that

JABIRU Australia suggest installing the propeller 60 degrees

off from the manufacturer's instructions. Does anyone know this to be

    true and if so why?
