I've not been before but I def agree with wanting to see more Rec and GA aircraft. :)Was there on Sunday morning too. Seemed far fewer rec and GA aircraft then previous. Maybe only 25 parked around? It is more an airshow then fly in. Feels a bit like its a show for warbird joy flights but thats ok. Personally i like to see lots of diffferent aircraft of all types. Lots of classic cars there this year. -
A few random snaps below from my visit this morning to the Evans Heads Great Eastern Fly-in.
The organisers did a "bang up" job and managed to attract a good crowd from the public. There were food trucks a-plenty and there was a hotrod and classic cars display on at the same time today so the event attracted varied interest groups. There was a great display of warbirds and the aerobatic display of the P51 Mustang was terrific!.. just love the sound of that 12 cylinder beast! I only saw a small contingent of RAA aircraft there which was a little disappointing, although perhaps some left yesterday as I was only able to make it for the theis morning (Sunday).
Nevertheless, I had a terrific time and highly recommend it. I will def be back again next year.

Good point :)Yep, just get someone to keep 100m clear hard sand. A few good friends could do that, better than later when they are all sun baking. -
Good plan except that it's surfers/broadbeach... at 5am it's packed with morning joggers/walkersSimple answer, you fix it, static test run it and wait til 0500hrs the next morning when there is no one on the beach and bugger off. Completely safe and justifiable methodology. -
I agree Kasper.Ok. If you read my comment on the other thread for this I’m so happy to see a reporter do exactly what I said we don’t see. Report facts and leave it pretty much as that.My bad, i didnt see the other thread. Appologies all for the duplication..

Emergency crews were called to Old Burleigh Road on the Gold Coast about 9.30am today after reports a plane had landed on the beach.
The pilot, Mark Waterford, was not injured after successfully landing his Drifter 415 light sports aircraft on a stretch of sand between Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Club and Broadbeach SLSC.

Thanks Geoff...flipping through the text it does seem to be all pretty common sense, albeit quite abstract in some of it's use/application to rec aviation. ;)NN I did mine about 3 years ago.I will be honest, I did not study for it. I found it to be mostly common sense. -
Terrific, thanks Puddles. I shall read the Dyson-Holland book with gusto! :)
I also rang the RAA office today and asked which text they recommend and they said there's not any particular one they'd recommend but they did say that they had just recently signed an agreement with an external party to provide the education/assessment details for human factors but it wasnt public yet as to who that was...Stay tuned I guess....
When I said I had the dyson-holland text the lady I spoke said that should be fine but that her choice would be Bob Tait's book, ...if that is any hint on who they may have signed to take over the HF stuff.. we shall see in time??

Hi All
Im interested to hear what is the latest text that should be used for the human factors exam? I have read on other threads here to use the Generic Pilot Proficiency Program (GPPP)? But that was mentioned back in 2009 and wondering if anyone has done the exam more recently can comment on what they studied to prepare. I did my RPC back in 1995 but now I need to do a dreaded human factors exam apparently? The instructors at CRA sold me the below for $40 to study but after reading some of the comments in other threads Im wondering if I have the right text? The Generic Pilot Proficiency Program (GPPP) no longer seems to be available on the RAA website.
Many thanks
Nate

Took first flight this afternoon after a 20 year hiatus. Rusty on the flying skills to be sure but had a great time nonethless and it was so good to get back in the air. Flew out of Caboolture with Bill at CRA in his foxbat 24-9100. Think I'll need another couple hrs dual to get current and then do a BFR. It was such a great afternoon though rediscovering the joy of flying!

Hi PearoI got home finally. All days bar about 3 were clear of ash, both visibly and forecast by VAAC in Darwin (BOM). The first day it was clear, Jetstar and Qantas flew in all scheduled flights + 6 recovery flights. Not only did Qantas fly in scheduled flights, they flew in a 747.The first day it was safe, I think virgin did no flights. The second day,. virgin flew 2 of 3 scheduled flights and no extra recover flights. Apparently all flights were recover flights.
The whole time, none of the Aussie fleets operated after dark, which I understand. Part of the VAA was based on PIREPS and no pilot in their right mind would fly in to Denpasar without seeing what the ash cloud was doing.
When I finally got a flight out with virgin, I had to fly Denpasar, Darwin, Sydney. Brisbane. I was business class, but apparently it was more important to screw me around so I remained in business than to put me economy direct Denpasar to Brisbane, even why I said I was happy to fly (and pay for) economy. Not bad when I am a frequent flier. Recently ,they even sent an email congratulating me on how many hours I have spent with them and offering a substantial discount on business, and even that email only had about 10% of the flights I had done with Virgin.. Pretty obvious to me now they dont give a flog about their big spend customers. What pissed me off even more, is when we got to Darwin, Virgin said (and I have it in email and SMS) that we would be cleared by customs in Darwin. Instead, we had to remove all carry on, get scanned into Darwin terminal and then get holed up for 5 hours before we could continue to Sydney. Virgin did not even inform their own staff about what was going, they had no idea.
I switched from Qantas to Virgin about 13 years ago, and have been pretty loyal since. I get airlines have issues, and I get environmental conditions. What I want put up with is rubbish service as a reasonably high paying client. It annoyed me enough that I am going back to Qantas. Its just a shame I now have to work up a decent status with Qantas, and I still need to use up my FF points with Virgin.
From Virgin, October 18:
SHARE YOUR STATUS
(Go on, you've earned
the right to brag)
I think I have earned the right to brag about how shitty the service was too.
Speedbird 9 had no idea. Virgin did.
Ive been a Virgin flier for the last decade or so and also do a far few miles each mth but i have recently switched back to qantas for similar reasons. I found the virgin service stds are nothing like they used to be and in comparison Ive been pleasantly surprised by the comparable levels on qantas.. even the meals seem better std and mlre generous.

Gents...How long is considered long enough in your opinion that a Rotax 912 is left untouched to need to be concerned?.. is 12 months for example long enough to require more than just an oil change and good inspection (..particularly of rubber & hoses)?

An amazing resemblance to Coolangatta International Departure lounge! You could be mistaken that this picture is from the sixties. Let’s see who know what airport it is.- 1

Interesting video of Steve Henry doing a dead stick takeoff in his Highlander STOL aircraft. He is the agent for these aircraft in the US and I read that he has fitted a 140hp yamaha engine in his latest plane. The engine is out of a yamaha snowmobile...

As a side note, the Allegro had it's MTOW briefly reduced to 450kgs and then later lifted approval to 520kgsThere was some shonky stuff going on about 10 yrs ago where importers were getting 600kg rego on their aircraft and when casa did an audit on raa, found they were not really certified for 600.I believe a manufacturer can say they are structurally sound at 600 but if there is no certification then it is invalid for raa rego, or something like that. The Allegro aircraft had their weights reduced and I think some 24 rego aircraft had to go to 19.

Classic!!!! I leterally laughed out loud from that BP ;)I was in a conversation at the Flying Tigers clubhouse when someone brought up the subject of the difficulty in joining the Mile High Club in an ultralightGrummo mentioned that the only pilot he knew who had achieved it is KiwiHe then went on to say "but I don't know if it counts when you're flying solo" .......
