ah hahahaha, anyway, the problem is nobody joins in the threads like this, i know Glenn will, if he's not too busy on the website, so if he doesn't say something its probably because he's making a kick ass new website for us :D

Hard for me to pick just one. To me its the planes that used to flyover my house in Ashburton in Melbourne when I was a kid. So that gives a vote for DC 3, Vampire Jet, Sabre and Canberra bomber. Maybe also whaterer planes they were that took me on my only overseas trip in 1990. British Airways Mel-London..and Continental Airlines London-Hawaii-Mel..any guesses on what those planes might have been? I didn't know my planes all that well back then. :) Tim

Great pics g_ i_jack! Yes all 3 were great in my view..from recent reading the Canberra was considered a darn good plane.

Saw them all in a couple of air races at the old Laverton Air Shows in the early 1960's..all planes were given a handicap..I remember some planes getting close to the line then all of a sudden one by one the jets would appear and almost gobble up the others on the line....the last show I saw I reckon a plane was almost at the finish line and all of a sudden a black speck appeared and thundered through the sky to just get pipped at the line....it was the mirage..on disp[ay before the first of the group of them arrived..so I am guessing around about 1963-65 'ish?

Sorry fellas.

The rest follow the Boeing 247. It was the turning point from antique to modern.

The DC-3 was the spinoff of the 247 and is the aeroplane that was "Just right".

They're still flying and have not yet had an end of life deemed.

The 747s have a life span that they ultimately get grounded because they're pressurised and are subjected to stresses that unpressurised DC-3s aren't.

The only reason there aren't more 3s in service is, people regarded them as "past it" in the need for speed and stopped maintaining them.

Right now there are 3s being rebuilt after years of neglect.

That won't happen with any 747.

Look at the photos of CWS... a thing of beauty.

Yep..good one Glenn..I could happily watch this one take off ,head off and land..might miss the reverse thrust roar though..but I'd be catching lots of those from other craft too..I'm assuming by the time the rotodyne had slowed down to landing position there would not have been much noise compared to normal large jets of today? :) ..I'm assuming..but not sure..video didn't really answer that one for me.
