Hi there,

 

I have a question about Jabiru SK maintenance.

 

Is there an idiots guide available on the internet that details maintenance tasks to be carried out on the Jabiru at 25/50/100 hour intervals?

 

What I am looking for a compact guide that details tasks and recommended spares (such as oil filters/air filter/lubrication product and consumables) that should be used for each specific task.

I had the same question and in the end I produced my own. Unfortunately it is not on this computer. PM me your email address and I will send you a copy of what I now use for my SP6T Jab. I suggest that you check that the correct consumables are listed as the ones on the charts are for the 6 cyl.

Dear Mr Bartfarst

 

I looked in those manuals for an inspection and maintenance chart. The nearest thing I found was an inspection chart that is not fit for use as a regular guide/checklist for maintenance, it is an inspection chart as it says on the top. I took the inspection chart and modified it drastically. I now have three lists one each for 50, 100 & 200 hrs, with additional notes on the 200 hr list for things like u/c bolts at 500 hrs. My lists also include items such as "Change oil" giving oil type and volume, "change filter" giving filter type, etc and these are on the correct interval list.

 

What I now do is simply grab a copy of the list approriate to the interval and work through it step by step. I don't think any such list is on the Jab site. Compiling the lists specifically for my a/c took some time.

Would the esteemed Mr Bartfast like a copy? With little amendment they would be applicable to an outrageously painted jabiru aircraft.

Hi,Qwerty.

 

You forgot the 25 hour maintenance on the engine, my j400 has to have the valve lash checked every 25 hours and oil. And I change the oil filter also. I use aeroshell w 15/50w good stuff.

My appologies Slarti, it was a typo, should have read "jabiru powered a/c". and BTW FYI calling something a Jabiru is NOT an insult. It is high praise indeed, not in the relm of Lightwing but praise nevertheless.

 

As to service intervals the Jab manual is quoted below:

Now para 6.4 says do the work in para 6.3 PLUS do the oil filter.

 

The key words here are "& thereafter after each 50 hours of operation". There is no 25 hourly service.

Derby, and your point is?????? There was a question earlier in the thread re oil change interval. On my reading of the manual is is clear and unambiguous that the interval is 50 hrs for oil and filter. There was a comment that it should be 25 hrs.I am trying to clear this matter up. If I have missed something I want to know.

You are going to have to spell it out for me. It seems plain to me:

 

1. do the listed work at the INITIAL 25 hr point.

 

2. at 50 hrs and at every 50 hrs thereafter do the listed work (as for the INITIAL 25 rh service) plus a filter.

 

What have I missed??

 

I am an engineer, I have extensive experience dealing with specifications, the Jab manual seems clear to me. If I have misinterpreted the manual I would like to know how and where. I want to understand and I want to service my Jab in accordance with Jab's recommendations.:thumb_up:

No, you are wrong, what is says in the 50 hrs section (and again in the 100 hrs section) is "conduct the items shown under the 25 hr check".

 

What they are saying is every 50 hrs "do the stuff on this list and here is where the list is" Not do this every 35 hrs.

I have emailed jamie, I have also had plenty of recommendations to change oil at 25 hrs. I am waiting to see what Jamie says. I will take a lot of convinceing to change the oil at 50 hrs. What I am interested in is the actual recommendation from Jabiru, the apparent ambiguity in the manual and practice. It seems that everyone changes oil at 25 hrs.
