Well there you go........we don't fly for money do we!!While RAAus instructing in Sydney, I had a young guy come out that was thinking of joining the RAAF as a pilot and wanted a bit of a 'heads up' on what to expect.He couldn't afford to do much with GA so gave ultralights a go.
Being ex RAAF (only ground work) I had an idea of what was coming, so after some theory we headed off in the Lightwing and I gave him a serious TIF.
He understood what was going on and enjoyed it enough to come back and really put in some hours.
I cant remember if he went solo before going up to Tamworth for the tryout, but off he went.
The training and evaluation done at Tamworth (then) was around 14 hours in CT-4's, and if you picked up quick enough, you could get an hour or so in a Cap-10 (taildragger) and some aero's.
My student did ten hours in the CT-4 and was the only one to get another four hours in the Cap-10
But alas youth, although he came back to the club, continued to full certification in the Lightwing and our Foxbat, he decided there was more money in computers and went off to Uni.....

Further on what Terry said, a bunch of us from SRFC (Oaks) did some glider spin recovery training with the Southern Cross Club and I thought it and they were absolutely fantastic.

I have made a bit of a habit of over the last few years, checking his listing on Wikipedia every couple of months to check if he is still with us on this earth. Each time I would re-read his accomplishments and follow some of the links. No matter how many times I had done it, I still was fascinated and astounded by his amazing life and character.
Hope I can someday meet him in Heaven!
By the way i think he was 97, not 94, being born on 21st Jan 1919

Forgive me for being naïve or stupid, but isn't it the SAFE and proper thing to do to land on the most into-wind runway? So isn't it true that if an operator says you can't use runway XY, that is still serviceable, it is detrimental to safety? therefore shouldn't CASA be sternly saying that you can't say that?

Hi MajThere you go again Aldo taking information that board members have taken the time to share with you, and twisting it around to suit your point of view....I wonder why we even bother on this forum. Merely stated that office relocation is something on the agenda...I never at any time mention a timeframe...short or long term...just that it is being considered. Jim on the other hand has offered that its not going to happen anytime soon because of current financial restraints. What part of that don't you understand ?...............Maj...I hope you and others bother with this forum because there are lots of members like me (read lots, post little) who are kept informed by the fact you do. So thanks and keep bothering!

By that logic we would all be wearing them in all vehicles, I have read that around 50% of vehicle related fatalities involve head injuries. But they wont legislate that. because Joe public won't cop it, they're not a minority. I choose to use protection where I can, but I'm all for letting natural selection run it's course. I have my own views on the other content, let's just say it's not popular with the "we need to protect people from themselves " crowd.
I've heard the same too from road accident 'experts' that say that probably around 50% of those head trauma deaths (and injuries) could be prevented from wearing even bicycle type helmets in cars. But as you say; too hard to force so many voters to do so.

I read somewhere, can't remember where, that German jet fighter pilots themselves rated the Tempest as their most dangerous foe-attributing this rating to the Tempest's low altitude speed, acceleration and firepower.

Hi Turbz and others,Terry, I don't think anyone has gone into bat for no process and poor governance.But continuing to fight each new President like a kangaroo dog humping over thin air doesn't make a lot of sense when this President and the last one were clearly frustrated beyond endurance at having to get something going when the CASA train was coming for them at express speed.I hadn't realised how close the train was or how quickly action would be required in the field but it's days and weeks, not months and years.
The CFI's have a massive task to do NOW to be finished by August - I feel sorry for Myles; it think it history might show he volunteered for a near impossible task in the timeframe, and this debate we've been having will be irrelevant when everyone realises the urgency - registrations all over again.
For the less experienced and informed (me), could someone provide an explanation of what CFI's will now be required to do by August and how that differs from the past? It would be helpful to gauge how much work needs to be done (or not) with the club i am involved with.

The CASA people at Av Saftey seminars last year said that up to date copies of the relavant pages (including potential deversion/emergency airfields) for your route is sufficient-so not the entire ERSASoooo, is the carriage of an actual physical ERSA (lets not get into electronic copies yet) compulsory??? or is it all open to interpretation while you're getting ramp checked- 1

It does concern me greatly over what happened with Adam Finn-at the very least I thought his articles in the magazine were good.You could go back to the techmen from the time of Mike Valentine. Unbelievable rate of turnover. No-one left happy (as far as I could tell). Have we had a board which is not technically inclined? Unsympathetic, Not prepared to listen ?People who don't live in Canberra, don't take on really responsible jobs like that, move to canberra and leave quickly. Nev -

I fly the A22L version and yes, 80 kts IAS is about where she flies comfortably. Others may get a bit more?Hi Carl, what is the IAS cruise for the Foxbat? I am currently flying a Jab160c with a cruise speed of 95-110knts....The Foxbat looks excellent with loads of room and awsome visability and a great price. But I have heard that it only has a cruise speed of 80-85knts? -
