As a dad of 4, 6 and 8 year olds, I can tell you that today's heros are someone on You Tube demonstrating how to play with a toy, animating lego construction or giving ponies a 'make over'. No longer do kids dream of becoming an astronaut, but a celebrity "You Tuber"![

That's Ron Watts' (former MAF, based at Wollongong, ..er .... whatever it's called now) It's as gorgeous on the inside as out and lovely to fly.

Further on what Terry said, a bunch of us from SRFC (Oaks) did some glider spin recovery training with the Southern Cross Club and I thought it and they were absolutely fantastic. Chris -
Passed the RAAus to RPL conversion today

Congrats... and thanks for such an informative post. Hope to do it out of a Foxbat too someday. Chris -
Thanks for the post and comments Phil, and others. I have made a bit of a habit of over the last few years, checking his listing on Wikipedia every couple of months to check if he is still with us on this earth. Each time I would re-read his accomplishments and follow some of the links. No matter how many times I had done it, I still was fascinated and astounded by his amazing life and character. Hope I can someday meet him in Heaven! By the way i think he was 97, not 94, being born on 21st Jan 1919

Airstrip/hangar in the Canberra or Goulburn area
Chrism replied to dodo's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Forgive me for being naïve or stupid, but isn't it the SAFE and proper thing to do to land on the most into-wind runway? So isn't it true that if an operator says you can't use runway XY, that is still serviceable, it is detrimental to safety? therefore shouldn't CASA be sternly saying that you can't say that? Cheers, Chris -
Hi Maj I hope you and others bother with this forum because there are lots of members like me (read lots, post little) who are kept informed by the fact you do. So thanks and keep bothering! PS understand perfectly what you and Jim say about moving/not moving

Merv, Aerogirl, There looks like about 4-5 from SRFC the oaks (including 1 foxbat) coming down for the seminar. Thanks

I've heard the same too from road accident 'experts' that say that probably around 50% of those head trauma deaths (and injuries) could be prevented from wearing even bicycle type helmets in cars. But as you say; too hard to force so many voters to do so. Great thread BTW

I read somewhere, can't remember where, that German jet fighter pilots themselves rated the Tempest as their most dangerous foe-attributing this rating to the Tempest's low altitude speed, acceleration and firepower.

I'm more impressed by the high backed seats with head restraints.. Are they being produced by Jb in Bundy? CM

That was amazing! An amazing generation. "Every pilot should fly a Spitfire at least once." What great advice!

Hi Turbz and others, For the less experienced and informed (me), could someone provide an explanation of what CFI's will now be required to do by August and how that differs from the past? It would be helpful to gauge how much work needs to be done (or not) with the club i am involved with. Great discussion. Thanks to all contributors CM -
That's good its been on ABC=haven't heard it on a commercial. Excellent analysis (scary! scarier that most people don't know about it) on Ben Sandilands' Plane Talking blog on Crikey. Xenaphon is about the best Pollie in the country Chris

The CASA people at Av Saftey seminars last year said that up to date copies of the relavant pages (including potential deversion/emergency airfields) for your route is sufficient-so not the entire ERSA

Great-imagine if you could still order one in a crate and put that vid to practical use! Especially if a P-47 came at 1940's prices-I think around US$80,000!

It does concern me greatly over what happened with Adam Finn-at the very least I thought his articles in the magazine were good.

How many younger recreational pilots are there?
Chrism replied to Michael95's topic in Just Landed - Welcome
My club in Sydney has a couple of girls who must be about 16-17. I think their dads are members too! -
I fly the A22L version and yes, 80 kts IAS is about where she flies comfortably. Others may get a bit more?
