No garmin needed for that flight :)

  2. Nice video. Did your passenger find wearing his helmet backward comfortable?

lol I never picked that up I left it to him to put on I was more worried about the flight and the camera etc I had about 15 other planes behind me. WE flew in formation plus there was a problem with the plug so we couldn't talk to each other through the headsets :)

  3. I have been using the Castrol 2TS synthetic in my trike with a Rotax 503 engine since the Penrrite became unavailable seems to be ok But is expensive am interested to hear more abouyt this other oil some of you are mentioning ie Active T2 especially if it is much cheaper?

  4. G day trikepilotHave a look in your handbook and go read up on "Effects of the throttle" = Torque, Slipstream, Thrustline effect, Gyroscopic effect and Asymmetric blade effect. You may also check tyre pressure re ground effect/steering. Have a good new year and when you have time please call me or drop me an email or a no. to call you at, did you get my email?

    Cheers

    Zazoo

None of those are the problem I think I may have found it Oe side of the fork has slight bend and it is causing wheel to catch on the material that surrounds the hole to stop dust coming in (a bit hard to explain -but not serious) you can email me at [email protected] No I didnt get your email

  5. ConvertDropped by to say Hi. I've just bought a Bantam (582) I've been flying Drifters by the hire hour since converting from GA a couple of years ago. Love the Drifter, but I have to say I think the Bantam is a far more practical choice. Can't wait to take it on some longer trips up and down the coast. I fly out of the Lockyer valley near Brisbane.

have you ever had any problems with turning on the ground? I have a bantam with Jab engine ad recently developed a problem with taxing to the right Stand right on the rudder pedal and make s a wide turn AS you know ts tricky to get to the pedals for a close up look Any ideas??

  6. Assuming that 'trikepilot' and 'Kathy B' are one and the same, then yes, the query was inspired by your hangaring requirements. I was chasing info earlier to confirm that the hangar in discussion would accomodate both your flying machines. It eventuates that there's enough floor space left over for you to go out an buy a third aircraft! Merry Christmas. cheers Riley

Kathy (L) yes we are the same. Don't think I can afford a third aircraft lol! Merry xmas Will have to try and get up to Bindoon in Jan and fly the trike!!! if the weather settles???

  7. Maj & 80K's. Based on your info, we calculate that the weightshift and the B22 will peacefully co-exist in the available space so we're bringing the trike in from the country on Sunday. Thanks for your assistance gentlemen. Cheers Riley.

was this a question on my behalf??

  8. I'm seriously considering buying one, well that's the theory.I'm yet to be able to fly one. With the Qld distributor (Skyfox) no longer available, my wish appears near impossible to fulfill. If anybody out there knows of a Bantam owner who might be willing (in SE Qld), please advise a contact number.

    Many thanks for considering

Did you get to fly a bantam and did you buy one?? I live on the other side of the country in WA and wat to sell mine it has the jabiru 2200 engine

  9. Hi Micko and welcome.First up, I can't help you with an opinion on weight shift, however 3 axis training will certainly open the door to a wide variety of aircraft types and allows you to switch and change as you please. I kicked off in a Drifter (and still would rather fly them than anything), but it made flying the likes of Jabirus and Tecnams largely a non-event. Learning on the high drag, low inertia types does make you a better pilot in my opinion, and that includes weight shift I guess!

P.S. I'm jealous - love NZ and would happily move there I think! Best flight ever was with Ruth at U fly Wanaka!

Haven't been pilot in command of a drifter but been a pax in one and I recckon the experience would be one of the closest for a 3 axis to be like a trike! eg wind in the face etc!010_chuffed.gif.c2575b31dcd1e7cce10574d86ccb2d9d.gif

  10. I have quite a few hours in GA & RAA aircraft and gliders and am interested in trying trikes with the view to purchasing a nano trike.I have contacted a few trike schools (both RAA & HGFA) in Victoria and have received some very different views as to an indicative number of hours to solo in a trike.

It appears that the RAA may treat it like a new Pilot Certificate thereby requiring 10 hours minimum training.

I am interested in the experience of others who have undertaken a similar transition.

I learnt GA in a Cessna 172 , did aerobatic rating in a Cessna 152 a couple of years after that Then abut 3 years later learnt to fly a trike 10 years later went back to an ultralight and now fly both. The skill to fly a trike is so different to 3 axis and when under pressure landing you have to be careful that GA flying doesnt take over It actually happened to a pilot on his solo and he is now dead! :( So extra hours is worth the dollars spent! Judgement for the flare height is also so much more important than GA

  11. He did think up what he might do, when i spoke with him it was probably as you all may have guessed (around the world) this is what he would like to do now, when of course is anybodies guess. And MrH your right buddy 10 was the best news coverage, 7 did an ordinary job, NBN 3 in Newcastle came out and saw him after he did his final leg in, did a good interview and then wasted time that night started the clip and said they didn't have time to show it they may be able to bring it the next night, watched the next night and as expected nothing. So kudos to channel 10 for doing such a respectful job.....

It didnt even get shown in WA ! I was so disappointed! I met Dave when he landed in Bali Great amazing guy! He has just completed his book and has it for sale! go to his site!

  12. Hi Robinsm, I'm on the north side, Kohukohu. Is that a Bantam in your photo? Where do you fly from?.

I live in Western Australia Recently was lucky enough to have my own private runway and hangar but have recently sold the property. Have just relocated to a place called Bindoon north of Perth where flying is only allowed weekends because during the week it is in a controlled military zone! The bantam is at a airport 2 hours south of here.

  13. Hi Guys,Thanks for all the advice. There is much to consider. I guess I worry that a flexwing can get into an irrecoverable tumble. Trikepilot what is it makes you more confident with your trike than with Bantam. Incidentally I live in Kohokohu.

I have been trying to post a photo So not sure which picture you mean?? I am having trouble navigating this site. I'm trying to reply to Trevr but cant find the reply button for his comment

An ultralight can also crash and tumble upside down if it has a bad landing not just trikes . But on the matter of trikes I once had to land in bad conditions ie strong crosswinds with very short runway(250metres) never been on it before. Got down but didnt think I would pull up before the fence so tried to steer out of it but had too much momentum and trike lifted up on the side and wiped out my prop. wing and wheel spat! But walked away from it! I have been flying my trike for about 12 years and done over 250 hours whereas my ultralight only done about 40 hours! I did my GA licence in a Cessna 172 in Nz about 6 years before learning to fly the trike. My trike is Australian made Airborne model and is a 2 stroke Rotax . I met a guy (forgotten his name) he lived in Whangarei and had one of the Italian ambibian trikes! Kohukohu eh? Just across the harbour from Rawene! :) Trike flying there are less dials to worry about In fact I hardly use them now. Trike flying is more about feel etc. Only have throttle and control bar to think about No flaps! Judgement is crucial though for landing flare. Great also for photography!

  15. Snap! I was born in Rawene in The Hokianga and am also semi retired teacher .I achieved my pilots licence at Otamatea Aeroclub in a Cessna 172 (1990 ) Then about 13 years ago I bought and learnt to fly a trike. I still have it and also have a bantam ultralight. I actually have them both up for sale now but still fly them both. I like them both but I got to say I am more confident with the trike . I am a 61 yr young female too. However the trike is more challenging in rough weather and for crosswind landings as Dave will testify! By the way he has just completed his book and it is for sale. I met Dave when he was in Bali. I happened to be there at the same time. Bonus! A benefit of the trike is you can pack it up and trailer it which is what I did 10 years ago and took it around Australia.
