The Boort Aero Group had a pretty darned good fly-in on Sunday, and I was lucky enough to be there. 50+ planes, from RA and GA - including a motorglider.
Warbirds and even Kaz and Matts CT4.
For me the highlight was the Tiger moth.. especially the formation flypast.
Oh.. and they opened the new Pilot Lounge as well.

*Bear in mind it was a howling westerly at 30+ knots.. hence wobblecam...*

Thanks Mat,
That makes the DVD stuff a bit more interesting and brings history to life.
Boort was great. About 50 aircraft there, and it was also the official opening of the new Pilot Lounge at Biggin Hill.
I met up with a bloke making pilot Activated lights for runways, and marking blocks of land for night flying Ag pilots.
These things are fitted up with PAL, and have high intensity LEDS that are visible from 10 Nm. Perfect for those wanting to upgrade their private grass strip, or local community strip.
The Boort strip has the same lights, and is now able to be used by the Air Ambulance at night.
By the way, Matt... nice takeoff! (yep, gotcha on fillum!!)

Aaaaaarrr... Echuca and Shepparton have proven track records in HOW TO do it properly, when it comes to major events.
;)

Yep... I think The Echuca Aero Club deserves two awards... one for HOW TO organise an airshow, and one for how to break the drought; organise a fly-in.
Off to the Boort fly-in this arvo. Stay tuned for WIN News later in the week as they are opening the new Pilot Lounge at Biggin Hill.

I only managed to catch up with BigPete - and that was while he was having a quick break from club duties.
Kaz-n-Matt... bugger.. I missed catching up with you both. I was hoping that it was Mattmeister in the CT4.
I fillumed the whole thing for WIN News, but have just about finished cutting the vid for the Aero Club - Rod Newlyn will have the disc for folks to copy.
I was the guy in the green jacket standing under the windsock. I even got blown over TWICE. The vision is shaky, but that is because I was manhandling a 10Kg camera on sticks in a 30 knot gale...
My plan is to cut some stuff and Youtube it, but if anyone can help with more info...
- The CT4; Where is it from
- The Lockheed; Who owns it, who flew it.. where's it from.. what year was it built?
- The F model Kittyhawk (with the Merlin engine) parked on the southern end of the flight line... who owns it,? I know it was a restoration process of 19 years, and its the ONLY flying F model in the country - that is, it has the Merlin. It originally crashed in Vanuatu in 1942 and this trip to Echuca was its second flight.
- The Trojans. Who flew Judy Pay's T28 (red nose) in the show.Who flew the grey one?
- The flying Kittyhawk; More info. Was that Judy Pay's Trojan it flew with?
I got vision of Rob Hoskings warming up his Yak... but Pete George came over and had a discussion and they cancelled their part of the show. Oh how I wish the wind was not there.. as these guys have been working their engine rings off on their stuff for the show.
Speaking to Rod, he estimated 4000 people came along to brave the conditions.
All I have to say is well done Echuca Aero Club. This show was bloody well organised and apart from the wind, went without a hitch. 15/10

Absolute ripper!

Yep.
Looks like the old "ultralight" phrase is back...
its a wonder the Emirates A340 wasnt called an ultralight...
The Shepp News has the story. Looks like a normal landing according to eyewitnesses, then she flipped.
Both off to the Alfred with head and chest injuries. Hope they are up and about pronto.

Mmmmm... stuffing the envelope with junk mail sounds the go....

Its not often I pass along an email scam notice.. these things are usually sooo obvious.
But I received an invoice in the snail mail from a company called DOMAIN RENEWAL GROUP. its a US firm with a base in Collins St, Melbourne. So on face value, it had a greater look of being genuine.
Essentially, it said to ensure my domain name could not be used by anyone else, I needed to pay this firm $75 a year.
My first thought was "Dosen't my web service already do that?"
The answer is yes, they do. And so will yours.
So, if you have a website up and running and you get an invoice in the post from DOMAIN RENEWAL GROUP, just file it in the bin.
Or, do what I did.. send them back their envelope with no stamp, and nothing in it.

Just simply awesome....

You had this thing called a title generator, which was a box with keyboard that plugged into the system, which usually consisted of two VTRs.... with sometimes one inch, sometimes two inch wide tape. Most of us struggled with half inch.
Lets see.... think Amiga or Commodore 64 for the computer nuts..
Most editing was of the drop edit variety, and crossfades required ANOTHER expensive box for a vision switching unit.
Prehistoric, certainly, but one that paved the way for editing at home.

Dang... wish I had known... I was tootling in the skies above Shepp this arvo...

It proves, I guess, that its the travelling public and everyone entering an airport to meet and greet that needs to have an ASIC... not the people who work there or fly for work or pleasure..
What a serious Joke..
On the bright side, the eyebrow-tweezer-confiscating-nazis will now have to search baggage for pedestrian control bollards..

It wont worry 99% of the pilots I know.. They know there is too much at stake.

Doing the math, a three degree approach requires a 350ft/min descent at the published fgure of 60kts in a Tecnam. Depending on wind (from outside the cockpit) numerous throttle, stick and rudder adjustments will need to be made to maintain approach for a greaser.
So... its a combination, I guess...

Sounds to be the safest option. What do other users of the strip think?

Soooo.... did the earth move for you?
Sorry.. had to be the first to say it!
Up in Shepparton and Echuca, the only ground movement was from the ever present tractors laser levelling the paddocks - and using the wind to send their topsoil north to Deni..

The biggest bugbears are clipping the mike - that is, speaking and then pressing the talk switch, and also gabbling.
A lot of pilots (read; first commercial job) after getting their PPl speak at such a high rate of speech their words are like bullets from a gatling gun.
Think about what you are about to say, then speak it at normal speed.
I dunno about you, but my brain receives speech at the same rate I send it..
