  1. I went through this last year, and suggest that you read the CASA explanatory notes. There is no problem with intra-ocular lens replacement PROVIDED that you don't opt for multi-focal or monocular corrections. In my case, I now have beautiful long vision, and need simple +1 readers for close up work. It was exactly the correction that the surgeon aimed for, and I am very pleased with the results. I had absolutely no issues with my Class 2, a letter from the surgeon providing the surgical details and outcomes was all that was required, and I actually passed the vision test without correction!

Go for it, you'll love the results.

  2. I can't drink much beer, a glass at a time is enough for me as there's something in it, the yeast or hops or whatever, that doesn't like me at all.But recently a Mate here has been brewing some mead, i.e. honey beer, damn it's nice.

Large variety of beers here and I get to taste them for free as the same Mate has a little pizza/beer place and there's 2 absolute standouts, one Tsintao (ching-dow) is the best by far of Chinese beers that is actually German in heritage and even all the late 1800's equipment, and the other is a Portugese beer with a stupid name, Super Bock. The Bock has an awesome strong initial flavour without nasty after taste lingering in your mouth.

Err, your butt actually has taste receptors, that's why chile burns on the way out 086_gaah.gif.afc514336d60d84c9b8d73d18c3ca02d.gif

So long as its "bing" and served straight up, not after the meal.

  3. I've had cataract surgery (transplants in both eyes) this year and had no issues at all renewing my Class 2. Worth noting that you won't get a Class 2 with monovision, that is, where you have one lens for long sight and one lens for short sight.

And its SOOOOOO good to have great vision again.

  4. Last few weeks, wages approx 30k per week. 2.5 - 3.0 engines per week plus a few parts for Jabiru.Little or no parts production by the plant machinists for past month due stock on the shelves awaiting sales/assy. I am told plant was offered to Jabiru some time back but rejected.

If the wages account is $30k, then the real cost will be closer to $42k (super, payroll tax, WC insurance, leave accruals, coverage). People are expensive, they need to be either very productive or very high value.

  5. FT,You can not buy local beetroot at my local supermarkets- not in a tin or vaccum bagged.

The only way I can get it- is at the green grocer and cook it myself.

Nor can I buy local bacon- it is all made from Canadian pork, because the profit is bigger. They claim Australian manufactured- not grown.

All Edgell brand beetroot is canned at Echuca, Victoria. The beetroot and the cans are local. After Heinz bought the Golden Circle business they moved beetroot production to Hastings, NZ.

  6. I have been spanked a few times over the years due to thermal generated turbulence. Corowa at the Christmas National Boogie was a cow of a place, ground was made out of concrete and a bit of wind to chop it up. A few serious injuries over the years, one that sticks is from the seventies, was a girl that landed under a round canopy and did not bundle it up straight away and talking to a friend had her canopy picked up and yanked her off the ground, over a fence then slammed onto the ground. Busted pelvis and shoulder. Another flew low over the taxi way and had their canopy shut down dropping them onto the ground. He is still in a wheel chair, (owned that German marked Storch). Have even seen tents ripped out of the ground and contents spread around the country side. Destroyed C182s, Nomads and Otters picked up and danced with. Inland in summer can be a deadly place.

Had just landed and watched Graham's canopy collapse at about 30 ft, not pretty.

Summer thermals inland really need understanding.

  7. A long ago Saturday night session around the drop zone fire debating this scenario came to the conclusion that if you were on an airliner that came apart at height and you didn't freeze or pass out from lack of oxygen then the 5 minute plus freefall should be long enough to find the baggage bin that has your rig in it and put it on.Maybe the hardware free base jumping rigs that are low profile and designed to get around metal detector security might be better insurance these days.

Gotta laugh Ozzie. All those nights sitting around the dz fire, how big a wedge would we need to build to be able to land it, what's the lowest height to get out if an engine fails, and the perennial question, if the airliner breaks up in flight what formation will we build?

  8. I hold a PC and a PPL with CTA and am about to relocate from country Vic to Melbourne, probably the western suburbs.

Does anybody have any suggestions regarding a facility where I can refresh my controlled airspace procedures, learn how to operate out of Moorabbin (I guess?) and all without being completely looted?

Also, a reasonably close facility with RaAus a/c?

    Cheers
