  1. Now in Cyprus, after a four-hour overwater flight, with a perfectly good land mass (Turkey) on his left side. Maybe they don't permit microlight, but still... wow!

He's now heading towards a choice of Turkey, Syria, Lebanon or Israel. My money's on Israel.

  2. Went solo today; perfect, still conditions. Not that it's a big claim to go solo when you're a qualified pilot, but it was my first time in Aus under RAA; hopefully the endorsement will follow not too far behind!

  3. Hi Guy,

Unfortunately I don't have a car at present, so even The Oaks is a pretty far journey for me! :-) If I ever get my Nav endorsement, and a plane!, then Temora will be on my list.

  4. If anyone's interested, a UK ultralight pilot is currently flying from Rufforth, UK to Sydney in his modified Quik 912s. Mods include a 135 fuel tank, and attachments for his wheelchair.

Being from the UK, you occasionally hear of UK-to-Sydney trips. I wonder if there been many in the other direction?

  5. I could say my first solo, but I wasn't too happy with it; my second solo was pretty good. I flew with air cadets at school, so I've had a few dusty memories of aerobatics in a Chipmunk, watching Tornados refueling out of the side windows of a VC10, etc. They were all good. The <3000ft tour of S England in a C130 with <500ft parachute drops was cool too.

However - as non P1, my most memorable experience was recent, with an outfit in Cape Town who fly an old Huey. I was strapped in the R Gunners' seat, no doors, mid-summer, and they then spent the next 30-45 minutes skimming down the beach and coast down to wavetop height and what seemed >100kt, pulling sharp turns and climbs, diving over hilltops, and so on. I'll have to compile all the video I shot of that and post it one day.

  6. Hi Folks,

I'm new to the forum; I actually came across it a while ago, but didn't realise it had a strong ( :-) ) Australian user base because of the .net forum domain.

Anyway, I've recently moved to Sydney from London, and was looking for a forum that was active for RAAus members; looks like I've found one. I'm currently flying with a club out of The Oaks airfield, and hoping to find a syndicate somewhere close to Sydney as soon as I get my RAA Endorsement (I'm NPPL(M) certified in the UK, and a BMAA Member).

    Cheers!
