  1. I tried my prop on a friends c42 as I had a vibration and a couple of other issues so wanted to rule out engine and airframe on mine this was the resulting video

first time I have been outside watching my prop being revved and it was a bit of a shocker

video won't load so will post to facebook on Tuesday if I don't get anywhere with the supplier

  2. Geoff can I ask what prop you are using in the xair?

I am currently trying to sort out a problem with mine and may be in the market for a different type If i need to go down the legal route.

    cheers

  3. I fitted a full set of hubs brakes and bearings to my Xair Hanuman, can't comment on the water side of things but hub bearings are not sealed against water ingress.

Also in my opinion bearings should have spacer fitted between bearings in hub.

A good kit for the cost but there is room for improvement .

  4. That would be because the UK definition of microlight is 450kg extended to 472.5 if and only if full recovery chute is installed - nothing to do with the airframe and entirely to do with the class of registration in the UK.And as the Hanuaman is a homebuilt in Australia from kit the MTOW is not a certified MTOW as such BUT the declared MTOW of the builder such that it still complies with the stall limits of the 19 series experimental homebuilt. So 600kg is legal in Australia so long as the aircraft can meet the stall performance at that MTOW ... many people overlook the fact that 19 reg aircraft in australia (like SSDR in the UK) are NOT limited by the original designer/kit manufacturer declared MTOW but are at the declared MTOW of the builder as they are for the registration purposes the designer

I know how the classifications are set out I was merely pointing out the ludicrous differences between countries as it is the same airframe etc.

  5. You wouldn't have any photos of the Radiator/Oil cooler/muffler set up would you William?

Sorry Geoff I have not been on this forum for ages and just saw your post I am glad you have it all sorted now My Hanuman/hawk has the 80hp 912

I would have loved the 100hp motor but it has not been certified here in UK so cant fit it without major mod paperwork being done, mine climbs at 800/950 feet pm at 55knts but burns approx 10lph solo and 12 lph dual.

I will post a couple of pics of the engine setup etc if you are still interested and would love to see what you have done to yours but I really must agree I think it is a perfect all rounder.

Sorry again for not seeing the post when you needed the help

    Regards

    William

  6. I looked at Air Navigation, and have paid for NAIPS and OzRunways after my trial expired, but I have to say there's still space for a well-designed app that seamlessly supports VFR Pilot Workflow.By that, I mean something that I can open a map on in the morning and mark out my intended route. Display weather forecast, airspace, check NOTAMS. Make my own annotations where I wish. Put in fuel load and it incorporates range and reserves. Program in an alternate. Check ERSAs and link them to waypoints, together with my own notes that can be pulled up - perhaps as tap waypoints on the map.

Enroute, it updates my logbook, tracks my course, and highlights deviations from the calculated plan, including impact on range. Weather radar, even public SSR feeds, can be pulled up. I can set pop-up reminders based on range from a waypoint, terms, or fuel state - such as a reminder to change frequency or call ahead.

While we're at it, why not proximity alarms linked to SSR feeds, airspace tracking, and other users of the app based on projected course. Maybe even a friend locator. The option to upload your track to a website for friends at your destination to check your position and ETA.

The thing is - most of these exist as separate apps, and each new one becomes a "must have". We may soon be the point where juggling between the "must have" apps becomes a distraction in its own right. (It could be argued that all this automation reduces Airmanship, but the genie is out of that bottle, and most of us appreciate the danger of complacency). The trick is doing all this in one app with excellent workflow, usability, and stable :-)

dont know if the maps are available your end of the globe but I use skydemon planning and flight software it gives weather notams flight times fuel consumption wind direction speeds etc for each leg of the journey all in all a great piece of kit

  7. Hi Damien the Scottish Strathalbyn is only 80 miles away from me. I would love to see come down and meet up with you guy's while I am over there.

Jabflyer I have visited victor harbour before but must admit it was by road, we took the tram/train accross and walked back a beautiful walk and a lovely area.

If I was 10 years younger I would be applying to stay when I came over as the uk is sinking fast.

I would have to plan the flight over a bit better than Dave though as 5 months is a bit long.

    cheers

  8. I will be staying with my Brother in Lockleys. I know he has booked a week on a houseboat up the Murray river but dont know the dates.I was just looking to visit a couple of local fields and meet up with some like minded folks whilst I was there.

    Thanks for the replies

  9. Hi there I will be over your end of the World from the 8th of November for 3 weeks holiday and was wondering how many local flying sites are in the area.I will be arriving using a bigger plane than Dave Sykes with stewardesses etc. LOL ,but it would be nice to visit some local pilots whilst I am there.

    Cheers

  10. Hi You Guy's

Just to let you know this side of the world(Scotland) we are pretty limited in our choice of flexwings.

I have owned 5 P+M machines culminating in 2 quiks

a 2004 model that I owned for around 5 months and the latest that I bought brand new from the factory.

If you were thinking about buying new then you should have no problems as the trailing edge material that has caused most of the controversy was changed last year. The problem of the dacron failing is still an ongoing matter but again seems to be on machines from around the same time as dodgy trailing edge material.

As for the handling both in turbulence and on a calm day I would be very surprised if there was anyhting out there better.

yes it does have its drawbacks if the donkey stops turning behind you , you will have less time to organise what you are doing and where you are going to land (but you should already be ahead on that one so we will ignore it)as it drops out of the sky faster than the slower bigger trikes.

It also lands a bit faster and needs a bigger field accordingly Solo around 50mph and two up around the 60 to 65 mark depending on conditions. as for being robust ask dave Sykes please ignore the two nose wheel problems as 99% of you wont require to land in serious cross winds using only one hand on the base bar and the other on a makeshift steering system?

I could be biased as I have just spent the £30k

would I buy the quik r nope would I buy the Gt450 yes but it is heavier in role lands slower and only needs around 75 yards for to and landing

  11. it is called prop tape tis side of the globe most aviation shops sell it to be honest it is only good for grass and very small gravel if you are flying from a dusty rough strip it wont give that much protection.

I have seen a metal tape for leading edges of the prop but not tried to source any as I fly from a grass strip.

I know that it is around £1.30 per 30cm

  12. Hi Donald

It is the same this side of the world I would love to do a huge flight like that but the logistics are just mind blowing from trying to get through corrupt third world countries and all the red tape never mind the actual flying. even worse the costs involved I believe Dave recons it cost over £20k.

It makes my plans to fly from Scotland to Lanzarote pale into insignificance.

I was hoping to visit Sydney again on my next trip to Oz in November but looks like time might be at a premium as my brother has booked a riverboat on the Murray for a week.

    cheers

    William

  13. It would be great if one of you guy's have recorded the newscast. I am stuck back here in Scotlandand have been trying to keep up with the arrival etc what type of reception Dave received. I am also waiting to see if it makes it on to uk tv.As has been said previously if it aint doom and gloom no station wants to cover it.If one of you guys could point me to a link of the footage I would be greatful.

I will be flying over in November but I am taking the easy way 747.

    cheers

    William

Ps. Thanks for showing dave people care all the best, fly high fly safe
