  2. Really like the color scheme Bacon. I'd be curious to know how much she weighs with the 503.....

    Hey Justin

I have not weighed it yet but it is a lot lighter than the ausflight drifters, I have flown both and mine leaps off the ground compared to the austflights I trained in, I've been told its around the 175kg to 200kg mark might weigh it when I get home and let you know

    cheers

  4. Hey guys & girls

I've just flown my drifter back from down lismore where wayne fisher did a awesome job on it, Had all new skins fitted, new 69L fuel tank, new tail post fitted, found out the old one was bent after I bought it, a new higher wind screen fitted ( which still is too low for me think I need to fit a lower seat)

and new sleeved landing gear. I even found a hangar out at home (dalby) for it too live in so was definetly a good xmas. Also does anyone know how to clean oil off dacron some dripped off the oiled air filters on the way home and landed on the new tailplane.

  5. Hi Bacon I have flown your A/C how is it going did you find out what oil Graham was useing? and where do you get the 20 lt drums of penrite/cheers turtle

    Hi turtle

Drifters going well Im flying it down to wayne fisher on my next break to get the new skins fitted and it will be nearly brand new, I ended up swapping oils and running with the castrol as thats what everyone else in town is using and we have a dealer that stocks it.

    Cheers Jamie

  6. bacon, I used Celebrity Slim, worked for me well enough, I still remember taking the PA28 up when I was bigger (not even at my biggest) and she definitely struggled! Would be different now, but you also tend to feel so much better after you've dropped the weight, someone once said "how good does that hamburger taste? Better than you're going to feel when you fit into the old clothes in your closet"?

Yeah that hamburger would taste like rubber compared to the feeling of achieving weight loss.

  7. Hi guys

I haven't lost anywhere near as much weight as crazy diamond thats just a wicked effort 100kg, But I've been using optifast shakes to lose weight over the past month I have lost over 10kgs and feeling great. Im not sure how healthy it is but it works and im eating more fruit and vege than I have ever eaten, Substitute two meals a day with the shakes and then I just eat fruit and vege to keep full, and get to have a prober meal for tea nice simple low calorie dinner. I've tried many things to lose weight this is the first to work, but it all comes back to put less in than you burn and you will lose weight its simple. Simple but can be hard to achieve takes lots of will power,

good luck everyone with there weight loss its a great feeling once you start losing it.

Also I found the other day I took the drifter up, climbed up nice and high and practiced some stalls and noticed that the nose didnt won't to drop in the stall anymore might have to look at putting some ballast up front 001_smile.gif.2cb759f06c4678ed4757932a99c02fa0.gif.

  8. Jan did get a few bad reports about the suburu mods he did as he basically left some people in the lurch with that unit. Maybe I think he has learnt his lesson when it comes to support. A local up here has one of his suburu in his RV8 and it goes really well but he isn't fond of Jan...The only way to know is to see how the Viking goes with sales and support and of course reliability but so far its looking pretty good

Going to have to wait and see I guess, the deeper I dig tho the worse it seems to get in that same forum I had the link to they are trying to get solid figures out of jan about installation weight which he will not give a defiant answer, could be a lot heavier than he is claiming on his website. Time will tell, I did send him an email earlier today to try and get some more info and figures off him and he sent back a very short email telling me everthing is on the website, and i can sign up to the yahoo forum that he controls, he won't let any negative comments thru so hard to get a good idea of engine from there too. Just all seems a bit dodgey to me might steer clear and stick with the Jab.

  9. I have been doing a bit more searching on the internet to find some more information about the engine, And have come across a few forums over in america about the dealer Jan and some of his earlier associations with another motor and his business attitude in general http://sonexbuilders.net/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=63. A link to one of the forums. Has anyone else heard anything about him from a more reliable source how did you find him to deal with bruce. Can't find anything bad about the engine so far, tho it has only had 200 or so hrs put on it in a few different aircraft from what I can find

  10. Thanks metalman 2. Boat trailers are rusty, dirty and galvanized. Quite often you can't clean much. Are there welding rods that work better than the general purpose "on special" ones I am using?

Try and get yourself some good quality rods, Im a boilermaker and do a fair bit of welding with a stick and you will notice the difference between cheap rods and more expensive quality rods a good GP rod should be perfect for doing V downs you really do need the steel to be clean tho or it will spit and spatter and just make it harder for you especially if your beginning, If welding gal definetly grind it back to bare metal will weld 10 times better and you wont get burnt or have to breath in the nasty gal fumes. Good luck its a skill that you have to perfect with practice but quality rods and clean steel will help a lot

  11. Hi all

Just wondering what everyones opinion is on having both EGT and CHT sensors and gauges on a two stroke is, do you need both or can you get away with only one. My 503 came with just the EGT hooked up and I had a go at hooking the CHT up but think the gauge is faulty, am I waasting my time getting it working or is needed??

    Thanks

    Jamie

  12. Mine is still sitting under the bench, l hope to have funds for a mount next month so l can mount it.As always people are welcome to come and have a look.

Looks a very professional setup and l have been keeping a eye on the Viking forum for other peoples thoughts on electrical system.

    Hey sloper

Where are you located, I would be interested in coming to have a look at it, its a flash looking motor, looking on the website

l trust my life in a Viking/Honda can that be said of another brand?

Thats exactly what I'm thinken its nearly got too be a better motor just for the reliability factor.

  13. Hi Guys

I'm currently building a cheetah Sierra 100. I was building it too have the jab 3300 but found these vikings engines and they look good, was wondering if anyone has fitted one yet or knows someone that has?

  14. Hi Guys

I've just received my first part of my sierra 100 build. Im wondering how everyone else goes about logging there build progress do you use any programs. Also are there any legal requirements for us builders to log the build for when we go to register the plane later on.

    Thanks guys
