  1. Here is a painting I did of the TAA Convair 240. TAA operated four of these aircraft in the mid 1950s
  2. Aviation art. Acrylic on stretched canvas 61cm x 76cm 'Our Airline B737 over Nauru'. Our Airline is the name of the national airline of Nauru. I was commissioned to paint this piece to be a gift for a retiring Our Airline management pilot.
  3. Wow...good travelog, Sixties, but,I'm impressed with the painting. Any idea who painted it? Also,I think with all your contacts and enormous aviation knowledge, you could do guided tours for aviators. You know we all tag along with you for a few weeks visiting all the haunts you know of.
  4. A few years ago. A news report about the crash of Metro at Lockhart River said 'Preliminary investigations revealed that the aircraft was flying too low in the area of the crash'.
  5. Movies you say? Need a leading man? I can do a Bob Hawke *puts on grizzled voice, slinky eyes back and forth "My fellow Australians. By nineteen ninety,no Australian politician will be living in poverty"
  6. Aww,come on Sixties....there are lots of us reading this fascinating trip. Please give up this so called 'work' and tell us another story.
  7. WOW,Sixties. You are living my dream. When I do finally retire,I have an idea to get campervan and tour this wide, brown, mysterious land calling in at every aerodrome, airshow, air museum. Having traversed the country in aeroplanes,I think it would be great to see it slowly,up close from the ground. Keep us updated. You are fuelling my dream.
  8. Hello Graham, haven't painted a Trike yet,but I do know what they are. I have just put up three paintings for sale in the 'Classified' section. Although they aren't Trikes, you can see some more of my passionate hobby.

  12. WOW.....you guys are SO friendly. Thanks for your welcomes. I thought maybe this site was for 'Rec' pilots because of the heading at the top 'Recreational Flying' I paint as my hobby. My day job is I run my own plant nursery. I don't miss flying. I had a great career, but,I want to jam a few careers into my life, rather than staying in only one. Louis, although I do sell the artwork,I'm new here and I don't want to get banned on my first day :crying:I'll have a read of the rules about putting them in the 'Classified' section later. Thirsy...haven't done a Jabiru yet. The smallest aircraft I've painted are Auster,Tiger Moth,Piper Cub,Puss Moth,RV10,Cirrus and Piper Pacer. The biggest was a Lufthansa A340. Facthunter....DC4 is on the to do list. I got some photos of VH-PAF before it departed Archerfield. In the meantime, here is a DC6..... 1.2m x 1.2m

  14. Hello Bandit, I hope I don't offend the recreational pilots here,by saying I flew DC9, MD80 (B717) DHC6,Jetstream 41 and others.
  15. Hello all. I'm Alan Spears from Brisbane. Former aeroplane driver as a career. Now my passion is painting aviation on canvas. Here is a couple of my pieces. Acrylic on stretched canvas 61cm x 76cm Acrylic on stretched canvas 30cm x 60cm Anyhow,I'll have a wander through the forums for a while.
  16. Oh,hey,it's RobK. Leonie,I'd like you to meet RobK. RobK....Leonie. RobK is another aviation artist whose work is BEE-U-TIFUL. So. Now there are three of us. ;)
  17. KEWL !!! Most aviation artists are male,I guess it's a 'blokey' thing,so,it's refreshing to see a lady painting aircraft. When I started out,I entered as many art shows as possible with VERY low prices. As I got better known and sales started, the prices crept up. That's the way it goes in art. As you become 'collectable' the prices go up. I also have a display every Sunday at a local craft market. Very few sales, but I get to talk to potential clients and hand out my business card. You have a great advantage having your dad in the industry. Maybe a few pieces of art on the walls of his workplace?
  18. WOW !!! Another aviation artist. I too paint aeroplanes. It is just the bestest fun. You can see one of mine if you go back to the 'home page',then scroll down to 'the lounge' then 'hobbies/collectables'.....mine is the 9th one down. Anyhow,as the others have said, welcome and PLEASE put up some piccys of your artwork;)
  19. Wow. It is amazing to think that back then, that was considered the future of aviation. Imagine lying in the takeoff position, starting the engine and then opening the throttle till it slowly overcame gravity. Horrifying to think of an engine failure after take off. At least with a horizontal takeoff there is some choice of what to hit.
  20. Here is a painting I did of a wreck off Coolangatta,Queensland. Acrylic on stretched canvas 40cm x 50cm. VH-BRD, a Sunderland had been written off after an accident in the Brisbane River. An enterprising man purchased the aircraft with a view of converting it into a floating resturant on the Tweed River. It was being towed by a tug,but the weather deteriorated and it took on water and started sinking. The tug had to cut the line and the flying boat slipped beneath the water and glided to the bottom. Despite many searches,it can't be located.
  21. Propliners....my favourite painting subject. Here is a small sample of my obsession. All are acrylic on stretched canvas. 'Constellation' DC-6B DC-3 VH-ABR Australia's oldest flying DC3 Sandringham 'Islander' departing Lord Howe Island F27 DeHavilland Heron
  22. Aviation art. Acrylic on stretched canvas 20cm x 25cm. This Auster was used in Cairns by the Air Ambulance in the early 1960s.
  23. Today is the 75th birthday of Douglas DC-3 VH-ANR. Construction number 1944, was first registered on the 12th April 1937, making it the oldest surviving DC-3 in Australia and one of the oldest in the world. It is beautifully displayed at the Queensland Air Museum at Caloundra. More about it on their website and Facebook page. Anyhoo, here is a painting of the aircraft circa the 1960s. (Acrylic on stretched canvas 40cm x 50cm)
