  1. Welcome Frank I'm in exactly the same situation, this site is great and the people are very friendly with heaps of good advice. Plenty of builders on here too. I don't think you need to "reactivate" your PPL to get an RAA licence, though there are a few cfi's on here who I am sure can chime in and give you the right answer
  2. Just interested in this thread but I don't see an answer to the original question. What clause is the Colt registered RAA under? From my limited understanding I didn't think you could take a certified aircraft to the RAA register. For that matter how do the C150's, Luscombe, Ercoupe, Aeronca and other old GA types get on? Can anyone post a reference for me to read further, or a simple explanation.
  3. There is something very Icarus taking to flight about this little bathtub Aeronca, would be lots of fun.
  4. Thanks again Skyfox99, have had some contact from Caboolture, sounds like a great place, and the Cub is on the bucket list too. I have started back on the theory over the weekend and don't seem to have forgotten too much over the years.
  5. Hi Skyfox99 Thanks for the recommendation for Caboolture, that should do the job nicely and not too far from home. I have also been reading a number of positive comments about the Jabiru and it sounds like it would be a great aircraft to transition onto once I have settled back in and feel confident again, there are also a lot more of them available even a school at Archerfield seems to be using one. Thanks again for the comments everyone.
  6. Hi again Thanks for the responses, I should have mentioned that I wanted to fly the Gazelle mainly because I have a soft spot for it and I know it is easy to fly, having both flown and instructed in them, just what I need after years away from flying. Thanks RKW for pointing out the one at Caboolture - looks like the nearest candidate so far. Robinsm I agree that one must try a number of aircraft and I should have mentioned that I had hundreds of hours GA in various aircraft from a previous life, just prefer to use a familiar aircraft for the first few hours while I knock over the conversion and settle in, I like the look of the new Jabs and that is a good candidate too. Thanks!
  7. Hi All After a very long time away I am hoping to return to flying next year if the planets align, and as I have a couple of hundred Gazelle hours I am hoping to find some school in SE Qld still using them as trainers. If anyone could volunteer a few names or numbers I would appreciate it. Thanks!
  8. Mark It was a dark cream colour, the accent stripes were orange and yellow. Nothing outstanding that I can remember, fairly basic panel, though it did have wheel spats all round.
  9. Hi, just wondering if anyone knows what happened to this Gazelle. The only mention of it online is on the QAM website and it states that it was withdrawn from use 11FEB04. Any info would be appreciated. I know it was at Maroochydore until at least 1999 and may have been returned to the owner in Victoria some time after that. Looking for a picture if anyone has one, or if it is still flying I would love to know where. Please feel free to send an email or PM if you don't want to post here. John
