The flight from Murray Bridge to Mt Gambier that morning doesn't paint a nice picture either. From FR24, the last 25 minutes were all below 900', dropping down to 600' at times before doing somewhat of a circling approach (3 full orbits) at 200'. After that, airborne again 15 minutes later...

In the first video, at the moment the first dust is kicked up from the prop, the elevator is clearly seen rising rapidly along with full rudder deflection, although it was too late by that stage

Neil, exactly as Alf and others have said. What FACTS do YOU have apart from quick assumptions. Given that portable locators require manual activation, they are not the panacea

I wonder if any Dutchess pilots (or insurance companies) are getting a bit concerned at the moment. Coincidentally very similar to another incident at Cowra a month ago

I've got a Uniden UBC355XLT at home, connected to a roof mounted antenna. It covers many more frequencies than I need (only really care about airband), can program in favourite frequencies to scan or lock on one, or scan the entire band. My only real complaint is that I can't just enter a new frequency like on the handheld, hence why the memory is important to store the frequencies you like

Noisy for music from phone when charging, adds background noise to radio transmissions and plays havoc with our Dynon EMS120. Going back to the previous 2+1 amp adapter that I was using eliminated the problems entirely

I know that my experience with CASA may not mirror that of many on here, but I'm actually suitably impressed.

I decided that I'd make use of the holidays over Christmas and make a start on doing my RAAus to RPL conversion. Only organising my medical in late November, I figured that it would be better to just get a RAMPC medical vs Class 2, given that the expected processing time would make it unlikely that I'd get it before CASA closed for the break. Armed with the wad of paper that the RAMPC is, I managed to book into the DAME and saw him 27 Nov, last thing on the Friday arvo. Now, the DAME was only interested in doing a full Class 2, as it is easier to process straight through his computer, so that is what we ended up doing. To my relief, the medical was mailed to me on 3rd Dec.

I finished all of the required flying to convert to the 172, including a few flights to qualify for the CTA/CTR endorsements. With more paperwork in hand, I emailed the whole application to the licensing centre this Monday morning (18th), also posting the originals that same day. Well, to my surprise, the license was sitting in my mail box yesterday, with the covering letter dated 18 January. Same day processing! I know of another RPL application sent this week with similar turnaround. Maybe there are positive changes at CASA after all!

I've had my setup running for about 2 weeks now. Pretty impressed with the range I'm getting from a homebrew antenna (roof mounted) with one of these dongles. I've managed to track a/c upto 236nm away

Factor in night landing, wind gusting to 48kt, in a crosswind and the hand releases from the yoke (not from him!) during the flare. I'd say he probably did alright to get away with just a bounce and heavy landing
