  1. Adrian seeing that Ron can speak "freely" and has a wealth of experience, he could well contribute much to the forum. The aircraft in my avatar is the NZ Furio. A dream aircraft for GA only, unfortunately. My Lightning is all but finished, sadly though it will be going up for sale due to some major health challenges which I have since a triple bypass in April. The aircraft is currently at Kingston where the final touches will be done.

  2. PLB's Up to where?

I was never much good at maths and have lost count of how many have said on this thread that they would order a unit. Being that as it may, how many have said they will order a unit? Where are we up to?

Ian, when is the cut-off point for the current round of orders and when should we make payment to Clear Prop?

  3. Ian, would you think a full body wrap could be used? I know it would be expensive, but could it be done without effecting the overall stability of the fiberglass shell of the fuselage and wings of the aircraft. On a hot Wimmera day would a full body wrap be a problem. A full body wrap could have a very interesting design added to it.

  4. Today have been asked whether I would consider doing a complete vinyl wrap (instead of painting) my aircraft (Lightning) by a firm in Melbourne. I have never heard of this before and don't even know if it is viable on a fiberglass aircraft. I know of cars and boats that have been vinyl wrapped.

I did a Google search and found a company in Melbourne that does this kind of thing with cars etc.

    Any suggestions!

  5. Tigerfish,

I have just ordered an Odyssey for my Lightning at a cost of just over $7300.00. I researched for nearly 1 year before making my decision. I spoke with such notables as ROM, BrentC and Seal, all members on this site. In the end I settled on the Odyssey after speaking to and emailing Bernard at Asia Pacific Light Flying. I suggest that you give Bernard a ring, his number is shown in his advert in the latest RAA magazine.

At the end of the day you must make the decision and be satisfied that you have covered all bases. Happy research days.

  6. The Smartfish is interesting, been looking at it for at least 5 years. The problem for many is that it will not fit into the LSA category. It will have (in present configuration) a MTOW of 1000kgs and be powered by a jet. I wonder if the developers would consider letting an Aussie develop something here. If that were the case the price wouldn't be "off the planet." 031_loopy.gif.e6c12871a67563904dadc7a0d20945bf.gif

  7. How long will it take to complete!!!!

Work on my Lightning is slow. Time is the limiting factor. 036_faint.gif.544c913aae3989c0f13fd9d3b82e4e2c.gif

What instruments do you plan to use? I am still tossing which way to go, however, with the AU $ being so poor against the US $, steam gauges may win the day.

Enjoy the project and when finished fly to Horsham

  8. I received a brief information package + photo of the TruTrak system last week. This came from Flymore P/L of Goolwa, SA. If the person behind this enterprise is on the forum, then greater information can be forwarded to us or Pelorus32. If not on the forum, does anybody know who this is?

Tony Brand at Horsham handles the Dynon systems.

With the Australian dollar where it is in relation to the the US dollar, any glass cockpit will now cost considerably more. For that matter so will a GPS and radios.

  9. Comment submitted. :thumb_up:Now, all we need is another 7,999 members to submit one!

    Ben

I am wondering, realistically, how many of us can comment on the 760kg proposal. My understanding is very, very limited in these matters. I do not have my license yet and have difficulty understanding many of the rules and regulations. So, what comment(s) should I submit that would make a modicum of sense?

  10. I have made enquiries to four insurance companies with regard to the Lightning. Keep in mind that my aircraft is in the process of being built and will be in that process for a long time. The most expensive quote came from Vero, the cheapest from Norcrest. Depending on what you want to include (or exclude) in your insurance cover, will determine the price you pay.

I have found that if you are prepared to "bargain hard" you will get a good deal. My wife and I have just done that with house and car insurance. We are with different insurance companies for the house and car.

We have learned through experience that insurance companies don't do you any favours, so we pushed hard. Economically some companies are beginning to feel "the pinch." It's amazing what you can finally get. FWIW.
