This is certainly true for the PPRuNe forums.
Amusingly I was banned just last week for updating a link in a post and asking a question!
I specialise in 360 degree panoramic photography and had a few shots of an Avro Lancaster on the forum. These shots were there for a couple of months.
I however changed my web server and the links (which had received over 1200 hits) became invalid.
I edited the post to update the links but then I received a few PM's telling me that the links were missing.
I checked the post and sure enough, no links. I assumed that there had been a problem after I had edited and put the links back in.
Next thing, an email from a "Moderator" telling me that I was on my "final" warning for posting commercial advertising.
It turns out that they were complaining about a small Amazon link that is on the bottom of the page that hosts the panorama movie.
I pointed out that almost every image on PPRuNe was hosted on a commercial site such as PhotoBucket with advertising on every page.
That was it - banned! No discussion, no reasoning! My ball, my game!
Pathetic!
