  1. better than my reply by a un named want to be councillor

I have to pay to play golf

well my small minded political friend ,

I personally gave up chasing small balls with small bats when I left high school but if that's all your capable of

I personally grew up years ago !

really makes you wonder with people like this making decisions which affect many people daily what hope do we have for our beloved aerodromes ?

  2. hi kaz

gliders as well ,there looking at relocating

corowa council asked all hanger owners there aircraft registration last year of all aircraft hangered on the airfield

no one knew or was told of the introduction of landing fees

council was way too excited announcing there $900 odd k from the government grant from flood damage to up grade the main runway ,

makes me angry considering albury airport does not charge aircraft under 500 kg (my trike n passenger full still under)

    or raa registered aircraft !

pity I never fly in there or want too ,,

I realize you have to pay your way in life but some times it is nice to have been told first or forewarned of the new fees not receive a bill in the mail !

makes matter worse you hear from a local resident they are approving a new building estate next door to the airfield

ohhh the belittling politics of shires and there hidden agendas

I can remember landing at Porepunkah years ago and had a hell of a north/north west cross wind so I decided to land down hill north

direction only to be meet by an un happy resident of 3 years in the (southern corner) that was very up tight and up set I flew over his house above circuit height yet landed down hill , in the mist of his abuse and blood curdling manor I produced the correct map for this area and pointed to the map asking where was it indicated that his particular space of land was marked on the map as a NO FLY ZONE ?

between that and a small verbal altercation I reminded him who was here first the airfield or him ?

funniest thing is this nightmare still haunts a beautiful airfield to this day :(

I hope this does not happen corowa way ?

ps my edge x trike cost $200.00 a year landing fees

but with the mass amount of aircraft leaving the potential $4 k a year revenue is prob around $2k now ?

  3. hi every one

not certain whats happening in your local area but our local airfield corowa nsw has now introduced landing fees upon us !

every aircraft hangered on our airfield has copped a bill and the local SHIRE is adamant they will be staying for good ,almost every aircraft resident has complained and some moved to other airfields but it now looks like more escalating cost to a sport only some can afford to do now days

whats next in our sport ?????

  4. I have flown both 3 axis and trikes and always return to trikes , there not every ones cup of tea ,but most people frown without trying ?

most people tend to turn to trikes because of there short runway capability and low fuel burn (the edge x with 582 and wizard 2 wing uses around 12 ltrs a hr or less at 40-45 knots) and not expensive to maintain and can also be packed up onto a trailer and towed where ever or taken on holidays etc ,

  5. And if I had any idea on how to go about registering it I would import the Northwing Maverick RT with the 40hp Kawasaki electric start and Pacer 13 XT wing with their version of a tundra kit tomorrow! It would suit my wants to a tee!

    jamel ,

i actually sent them an email and got a quote of around $3k to get one out here ,there also certified in the usa and could be registered here under lsa ,

they are also doing research on a slightly faster wing for the 582 i think the current one was 65 knot cruise , they are looking for a distrubutor or agent over here ,

i was happy to see some taking and researching more affordable trikes for normal wage earners ,

i wish there were more affordable models on the australian market ,, most seem to be around $60k t

  6. So that leaves the question of why?

horrible for a trike pilot to wonder why or what happened ?

if the spat came off and the aircraft flying normal wouldnt the spat travel backwards or one would think so with speed etc ?

or did the spat actually strike the prop and took a chunk off a blade or 2 and vibration took them in ?

i have heard stories of pilots loosing one or half a blade and there motors shaking out of there engine mounts,,,,

would really wish findings where posted for everyone to learn from,,,

  9. Thanks Graham...WAC etc charts are a Air Services owned format so to get the digital versions you have to pay Air Services thousands of dollars every year...you even have to, I believe, sign an agreement saything that you will maintain insurances of x million dollars for 10 years after you stop using them...or something like that. The other alternative is that everything that is on the Air Services charts can be obtained from the public domain so using resources like GeoSciences charts and other pieces of information around you can create the same kind of charts BUT there is a bit of work initially to create them. Then to be sure you pick up on any changes that may happen, you would need to get every Air Services chart each time a new set are released and cross check them with your own...just to make sure!

The idea I had in the improvement of the flight planner all started with the update to the Google Earth Airstrips Section. From there we update the planner to a form type of layout. Next stage is we get the planner to automatically get the weather for the weather section and apply that to the plan. The final stage would be bringing it all together that allows you to print out your flight plan that has the numbers plus is laid out over a Google Earth map. It would be a project that would end up costing a bit of money and be undertaken in steps over a period of time...that is why I wanted to know if it would all be worth it

    ian,

if you could update your current planner i would be more than happy to subscribe and use it,i am certain many other members too for a minimal cost?

the more who use it the cheaper it becomes for all of us?

like your last voting poll on replacing aircraft can u do one one this subject?

it would be great if you could put in departure and destination and press print and vice versa for return trip and carry it in your aircraft with your maps and gps,

look forward to using this tool more regularly,,

    cheers graham

  11. Thanks Guys...I hope I didn't come across the wrong way in my post above, sorry if I did...bad night BUT, the Recreational Flying Google Airstrips Section is now up and running so just looking for my next project and was testing the water to see if I should get the current flight planner improved or not...if not, what other components do you think would be useful, to you, to have on the site?

    hi ian

alot of us cannot afford or wish too purchase the correct program to do the correct required legal flight plane ,,,

but is it worth say a small fee to members of this site to join or contribute towards an upgraded version?

i personally have used your flight planner to double check my figures but i would love to use /join a version i

could simply print out as a wac chart or vtc chart with departure to destination?

if we spread the cost across members i am happy to pay my way,,

    cheers graham

  12. This is so good to hear, I've been flying a Eurofox taildragger in preparation for putting my Skyfox back in the air( next month ) and reckon the Skyfox/gazelle aircraft would be a top notch aircraft with a couple of minor tidy ups( metal wings ,not really minor!) .The Eurofox is a little wider in the cabin, a little faster( not much though, inspite of the advertising) ,the gear is a bit wider set, and the baggage area is better thought out, all not huge issues in what is one of my favourite aircraft at the moment,

    Met

good luck on your rebuild, and you also have a good contact for any spareparts etc,,

cant wait to see some pics of your bird once she is completed,,

like you i like the look of the eurofox and speed etc but the price tag $91k aust is way out of my league,,,

my aim at this stage will be a new set of alloy wings down the track,to hopefully pick up that extra ten knots or so ,but at the same time mine only has 1140hrs airswitch so no big rush,,

  13. You would have to find out from a good doorman who is really on the ball.086_gaah.gif.afc514336d60d84c9b8d73d18c3ca02d.gifAlan.

    hi david welcome aboard ,

one gentleman in our club at holbrook started flying at 72 and still flies reguarly and owns his own jabiru now has around 170 odd hrs,,super_hero.gif.5d50ddb84d4e7e727183b80b4acbc28c.gif

goes to show all ages are welcome in our sport,,,

i am even trying to get my mum to hang up her broom and join me lol,

  14. The only mention of anything Gazelle-ish on the website http://www.coastalaviation.com.au/ is that they manufacture components for "Skyfox". Ten years or so ago there was a GA school based at Maroochy & they had about 5 blue Gazelle's on line.

guys i spoke with the owner rob stowe 07 54488991,they are just going thru all the required documentation etc from casa and raa sign offs, and there web site and a formal add will be in our magazine in the next few months,on the phone rob explained he was there airframe builder yrs ago and has also done many conversions from skyfoxs into gazelles, also explained the nose wheel was designed by whitney[built the boomerang]

he has a very good memory and built over 100 aircraft for the company before it closed its doors and one of his builds was my very own aircraft,he even recalled the original owners name, which i looked up in my aircraft log and he was correct,

his aim is to build a mid class affordable robust reliable and proven aircraft,he has also designed a new all alloy slightly faster wing, but i am not certain of prices,he did have new certified props in stock[wooden]

  15. Glad to hear you're enjoying your Gazelle mate, as I said, I was in love with them to the point of wanting to start a support group etc but I suppose I saw the light and have a new love, the Drifter - so happy you are pleased with your Gazelle please fly safe and keep it maintainedHappy Aviating

    :-))))))

nothing wrong with drifters mate,i just havent had the chance to fly one,but after a few really bad experiences with trikes this yr i had to make a change, and being enclosed is a confidence builder,

we are both in the price bracket of what else do you buy??

    cheers graham

    enjoy your flying

  16. Is it possible to put the wheel on the right place on the Gazelle? (I believe they are different to your average Skyfox?)

apparently these guys have spent the last few years converting skyfox''s into gazelles by changing the wheel around???

  17. I fly at Gawler and the club doesn't charge for Instructors because they are all volunteers and I might add very professional. I flew at a local school that charged $50 per hour for an instructor plus the aircraft. These instructors where volunteers as well. They too where extremely professional. I learnt to fly Gliders at Gawler and I must say my instructor was hard but fair and is still at Gawler instructing 16 yrs later. Again a volunteer.

i think personally finding a good raa instructor is getting harder and harder or you have to travel further and further,i have seen one instructor not far from alb tear shreds off a fellow pilot for a common little mistake, and trust me was very minor, but the cfi continued to barrage the pilot with abuse and belittled him in front of a large group of his friends! not called for and should not be tollerated ,this so called cfi was more like the chief of the gestapo police and had no right what so ever.

yet the very next hr the same cfi took up a potential new student on an tif in the same 25knot winds and scared the jesus out of the so called new student to the stage he will not fly again?yet this heroic flying is tolerated and legal??????

i really think the raa should be doing more listening and promoting safe flying practices thru there cfi instructors and pulling up those that commonly brag and boast on there own websites.since how does we flew in 27 knot crosswinds today and it was fantastic, and there were no ga aircraft in the air at all promote a good safe status or at worst attract students to even think this is a normal and safe practice????

sorry guys but i am here for the long haul not a short one ,as written above from a cfi website!

safe flying saves lives and the less risks the longer we live,,,

find a good cfi and treasure him, dont make the mistakes i did in the past and listen to the wrong ones,,,,,,

  18. 029_crazy.gif.9816c6ae32645165a9f09f734746de5f.gif hi all just heard some great news for gazelle owners, they are once again about to hit production lines with a few changes ,one of them being a slighltly faster wing option with larger fuel capicity as well and full alloy wings not wooden.

new wooden props are also ready for sale as i spoke to them today, and they are being made here in australia, brisbane.

great news for current and future owners

    good luck coastal aviation.

    i hope you do well,

  19. That's the danger of splitting threads Iggy, so you need to explain the background. This thread suddenly appeared with someone rubbishing Gazelles. Two near identical threads were merged and then moderated to remove abusive posts - Mod.

hi all dont mean to be negative but at least my gazelle has a full steel airframe not one steel pole running between your legs, thats not much of a safety feature and my main reason for getting out of trikes/drifters !!!!!

  20. Get a Drifter, preferably a 582 WB. I am 6'4" won't tell you my weight. My seat is moved back 2". Lots of fun to fly and cheap to buy and maintain.Cheers

hi mark good to see another alb/wod fella on the site,,

there is plenty to choose from comes down to the dollars at the end of the day,and how far you wish to fly ,,,029_crazy.gif.9816c6ae32645165a9f09f734746de5f.gif
