  1. 20180803_113934.jpg.a1d1ad42df322123028012ba2051de5f.jpg I was performing an inspection on a Wizard 3 wing today and i found something a little bit interesting. It appears that where the x-bars join each other they have been chaffing on the keel tube. This lump of nylon is obviously supposed to stop this happening but it doesn't. A quick bit of comparing another wizard wing nearby showed no such contact and the nylon lump doing its just well enough. Anyone had this problem before or can share why this is happening. New keel tube will be ordered once all parts are determined.

Thanks for any help. Cheers Nick

  2. Heard of one scam (don't know if it's true or not) that took place before the internet. A bloke would post adverts in magazines for some product or other, well below the normal price. When someone ordered one and paid for it, he sent back a letter saying "Sorry, we're out of stock" and refunding their money.... on large and gaudy personalised cheques, with bold writing stating the payer was something like "Big Gay Al's Anal Supplies" or words to that effect.Naturally enough, many people were too embarrassed to present the cheques.

    Money for nothing!

Thats sounds an awful lot like lock stock and two smoking barrels

  3. Definitely worth considering. There are some of the Old Guard who consider the SAAA as the real enemy. I think there is great synergy possibilities with the SAAA in particular but also with some of the others like HGFA and GFA.

Agreed, i would like to pay only once for insurance but it seems like i will have to join HGFA and RAA seems sillyand quite unfair when you can only fly one aircraft at a time. If all four merged together and truly looked after ALL members interests we really would be onto a winner. Financially makes lots of sense too.

  4. So basically from reading all this we whine about every manufacturers problems and slag off Rotax's prices!!!!!

If you want to fly instead of faff about open your wallet and spend the Cash. i truly believe that the Rotax cant be beat for $$ per effortless flying time. 1200 hrs on mine and just getting sweeter.

  5. Im based at the shadow flight centre @ old sarum airfield in salisbury uk. I love the shadows but a jab?? seriously?? hows it cope with cooling? Just been up in York rescuing one that got blown over in its trailer thankfully the tailboom will be ok as these are rare as hens teeth. enjoy the plane and the lack of second flight passengers. i hate the back seat.

  6. Or find a friend with a Rotax, their plugs come with caps on them but don't use them. Generally have a box full of caps if they haven't throwen them away.

Jabiru.... Still dependant on a Rotax for reliability. Sorry couldnt help myself. ;-)

  7. Who gets $150/ hour for a drifter? 2000 hours would equate to 6 engine replacements or overhauls. Some pretty poor economics you got goin on there FT

Well lets call it $115/h - $35p/h instructor pay -$20/H fuel leaves $60/h left over

(My experience tells me that most rotax 2 strokes engines used and maintained regularly will outlast the 300h TBO timeframe)

but lets say they dont $5000 x6=30,000

so $60per hour x 2000h =$120,000-30K for engines leaves us with $90,000 Profit after paying most expenses Not bad really.

  8. One of the instructors @ Clifton managed to fly a drifter into a fence a while back and the plane ended up in many pieces. The drifter was, I thought completely destroyed, as it had hit the ground pretty hard but Wayne Fischer managed to repair it in a few weeks.

and his engine is still going after more than 300hrs and a crash. ;-)

  9. there is a bloke called Kev Armstrong here in the UK that has been upspecing a B&S twin with excellant results. ideal affordable candidate for a minimax i believe.

heres a copy paste from a uk microlight site post:

CAD drawings and DXF file for flywheel machining will be supplied free with kits as will any relevant advice, if required we should soon be able to offer a flywheel lightening service on an exchange basis but costs for this service have yet to be established. Exhaust manufacture has so far been on an experimental by application basis but we hope to standardise a design and offer a kit as soon as possible. We do however already have CAD files for general design and cad/ dxf files to simplify exhaust manifold plate manufacture.
