Thats sounds an awful lot like lock stock and two smoking barrelsHeard of one scam (don't know if it's true or not) that took place before the internet. A bloke would post adverts in magazines for some product or other, well below the normal price. When someone ordered one and paid for it, he sent back a letter saying "Sorry, we're out of stock" and refunding their money.... on large and gaudy personalised cheques, with bold writing stating the payer was something like "Big Gay Al's Anal Supplies" or words to that effect.Naturally enough, many people were too embarrassed to present the cheques.Money for nothing!

Agreed, i would like to pay only once for insurance but it seems like i will have to join HGFA and RAA seems sillyand quite unfair when you can only fly one aircraft at a time. If all four merged together and truly looked after ALL members interests we really would be onto a winner. Financially makes lots of sense too.Definitely worth considering. There are some of the Old Guard who consider the SAAA as the real enemy. I think there is great synergy possibilities with the SAAA in particular but also with some of the others like HGFA and GFA.- 2

So basically from reading all this we whine about every manufacturers problems and slag off Rotax's prices!!!!!
If you want to fly instead of faff about open your wallet and spend the Cash. i truly believe that the Rotax cant be beat for $$ per effortless flying time. 1200 hrs on mine and just getting sweeter.

Im based at the shadow flight centre @ old sarum airfield in salisbury uk. I love the shadows but a jab?? seriously?? hows it cope with cooling? Just been up in York rescuing one that got blown over in its trailer thankfully the tailboom will be ok as these are rare as hens teeth. enjoy the plane and the lack of second flight passengers. i hate the back seat.

you got it wrong. Real aircraft are made of fabric mate. ;-)

10hrs from melbourne, 2hrs from canberra, 2hrs from sydney, 12hrs from brisbane.I wouldn't call Nowra central.maybe goulburn is a better option.
Just make sure its regional
-
most RA types could be accepted in the Nowra area. I could even arrange free landing for association business flights at my own private strip. wages and cost of living are relativly low so why not?

Nowra Nsw good enough for the RAN FAA.

I have two communica headsets and the unit and two PTT buttons on my trike. they are cheap as chips in the UK check out www.afors.com and ebay uk and something will turn up. Does anyone use lynx in australia?
-
Are syndicates allowed under RA? how many people?Sharing the costs is certainly one way to keep it affordable - trouble is, the person who has the pleasure may not be the person who gets the pieces. But it's certainly one way to approach it. -
On that topic does anyone in australia use skydemon? Can anyone let me know what they believe to be the best for basic trike flying?
Cheers

Why do you need a club?? If you want to fly old rag and tube machines just do it. Support is available through forums these days.

Thanks for sharing, wonder if we should drop some gliders from our planes for shits and giggles?
-
but private use TBO can be extended on condition?
ps an instuctor in the UK has his school GT450 Trike with 3400hrs on the 912. Completely legal and still purrs like a kitten.
-
Faark maybe importing my trike isnt such a good idea. The UK rules are a bit more flexable than Aus.
-
Jabiru.... Still dependant on a Rotax for reliability. Sorry couldnt help myself. ;-)Or find a friend with a Rotax, their plugs come with caps on them but don't use them. Generally have a box full of caps if they haven't throwen them away. -
In the UK we use the Quadrantals Rule seems to work well for such a densely populated area.

Quick semi unrelated question. for a factory built Trike do i have to change the engine at TBO to remain eligable for school use under Australian laws or is it on condition? my engine is at 1200hrs with a TBO of 1500hrs
-
Well lets call it $115/h - $35p/h instructor pay -$20/H fuel leaves $60/h left overWho gets $150/ hour for a drifter? 2000 hours would equate to 6 engine replacements or overhauls. Some pretty poor economics you got goin on there FT(My experience tells me that most rotax 2 strokes engines used and maintained regularly will outlast the 300h TBO timeframe)
but lets say they dont $5000 x6=30,000
so $60per hour x 2000h =$120,000-30K for engines leaves us with $90,000 Profit after paying most expenses Not bad really.
-
and his engine is still going after more than 300hrs and a crash. ;-)One of the instructors @ Clifton managed to fly a drifter into a fence a while back and the plane ended up in many pieces. The drifter was, I thought completely destroyed, as it had hit the ground pretty hard but Wayne Fischer managed to repair it in a few weeks. -
Im a low hour trike pilot but i regularly take off and land in such conditions surely a heavy twin can handle such winds with ease?? or was this a piss take i missed? The conditions were challenging also, crosswind of 10-15knots and hot, so well done, I'd fly with this pilot anytime.- 1

there is a bloke called Kev Armstrong here in the UK that has been upspecing a B&S twin with excellant results. ideal affordable candidate for a minimax i believe.
heres a copy paste from a uk microlight site post:
Briggs & Stratton V-Twin tuning parts and reduction drive now available in UK

CAD drawings and DXF file for flywheel machining will be supplied free with kits as will any relevant advice, if required we should soon be able to offer a flywheel lightening service on an exchange basis but costs for this service have yet to be established. Exhaust manufacture has so far been on an experimental by application basis but we hope to standardise a design and offer a kit as soon as possible. We do however already have CAD files for general design and cad/ dxf files to simplify exhaust manifold plate manufacture.

Wizard wing defect.
in Trikes and Microlight Aircraft Usergroup

I was performing an inspection on a Wizard 3 wing today and i found something a little bit interesting. It appears that where the x-bars join each other they have been chaffing on the keel tube. This lump of nylon is obviously supposed to stop this happening but it doesn't. A quick bit of comparing another wizard wing nearby showed no such contact and the nylon lump doing its just well enough. Anyone had this problem before or can share why this is happening. New keel tube will be ordered once all parts are determined.
Thanks for any help. Cheers Nick
