    I'm not sure that applies in a Jab. Ozzie. With traditional tachos, the greater the rpm, the faster the numbers revolve, but the jab tacho is digital and it seems to me that it starts when the master is turned on and vice versa.

    I know it is not good to advertise on the Forum, but I do like to recognise good service!! I recently had my transponder calibrated and adjusted at Range Avionics in Toowoomba. I have to say that the service was quick, friendly, professional and reasonably priced. Thanks to the crew for helping me out with little notice. John

    Paul, I had similar problems when my Jab was new. Blamed the battery, starter solenoid etc and it turned out to be the starter motor itself. Changed the starter and no more problems. Get an autoelectrician to check inside the starter. John

    My J230 requires full back trim on approach. Gazelles I have flown also require it. It depends on the aircraft, load etc. John

    I've come in a little late here, but would certainly echo Simonflyer's remarks. I came to RAA as a well entrenched (38 years) GA pilot (PPL, CPL) a couple of years ago. Why?: because I was expanding my recreational flying opportunities and could see the 'common-sense' approach adopted by RAA as apposed to CASA whose focus is increasingly on commercial operations and more restrictive regulations. In the back of my mind, however I have always been pretty impressed by the amount of autonomy given to RAA by CASA and have always been quietly worried that, given the rapid expansion or RAA, the effectiveness of the RAA regulator is going to be more and more in the spotlight and closely monitored. Too may stuff ups and we could lose the lot. But it is not just up to RAAus. It is vital that all RA pilots maintain exemplary standards of flight procedures, preparation, planning and maintenance to ensure that we are perceived to be worthy of the priveleges we enjoy. There is no room for cowboys in our circles. Those days (if they ever existed) are gone. Our flying should be fun, but also professional and responsibile. My two bob's worth. John

    For once, I am forced to agree with the Major. The Ingham fly-in was terrific, but then over the years they have always been good; and I am going back one score and eighteen. Well done to the organisers and congratulations to the Ingham Aero Club on their fiftieth birthday. John (I'v had to edit this twice.. must be something to do with the residue of the amber fluid so copiously supplied by the crew in YIGM).

    For what it's worth, I had the same problem when my Jab was pretty new. Changed batteries, replaced the solenoid, moved the earth lead etc. It ended up being the starter motor itself; the last place I looked with a new engine. John

    Hi, Wayne. Assuming you leave Bundy with full fuel, you could re-fuel at Shute Harbour (Airlie Beach) in the Whitsundays or perhaps Lakeside Airpark between Mackay and Proserpine (not sure of the details there). As far as Townsville goes, email me and I will give you some options for landing / parking here. I have a Jab and am based in Townsville. John

    Hi, Watto. Pardon my ignorance, but I'm not sure where Rodds Bay is. However if you are not able to land at Mackay itself, there are another couple of options including Airlie Beach (Shute Harbour) - a new air park, fuel available, landing fee, information on the web. There is also an air park north of Mackay - I'm sure one of the other forum members will be able to help there. As far as Townsville is concerned, there are a couple of options. One (Montpellier) is the closest, but hangarage may be a problem; not sure. I keep my plane at Starke Field. It is about 30 minutes out of town, but I'm sure we could arrange some kind of lift for you if you contact me direct. John

    How old is your radio, Ross? What the manual says is correct. Keep holding the right hand toggle until a "M" (for monitoring) starts flashing next to each frequency (active and standby) in turn. It may be a bit longer than 3 seconds. To exit, press the toggle once then press again to swap frequencies. Im I making sense??? If so, it would be a first. John

    A dumb question from a North Queenslander. I am considering a trip 'south of the border' to visit Cobar, Temora etc later in the year and I'm considering a good time to go (weather-wise). What is mid-September to mid-October like as a general rule? I understand that winter can be a bit 'iffy' (and we banana benders do not own a lot of warm clothes). What would be the recommendation of the locals?? John:juggle:
