1. Toady,Welcome to the club! You're talking to the least technical guy here. Emu, M16 & Nev could walk all over me.

However, there is a However! When I look at a spark plugs cap that my common sense tells me is 45 degrees from vertical then have people (no offense) tell me it's 120 degrees from.... whatever they pin that conclusion on, well, hell. I give up. It's 120.

I'm too old to argue anymore.... especially with my wife. I agree to everything. There was a Governor in the State of Louisiana. He was like me. Agreeable. He signed off on everything. One day a leaf blew in his window, landed on his desk. He signed that too. Nice guy.

Yeah I think we can overthink things. We all know what we mean.....Don’t we?

  2. Dan & Down under. Thanks for your replies. I wonder why they call them 120 degree plug caps when the design is 45 degrees? I think Amazon's ad refers to them as 45 degree caps...if I remember correctly.

Anyway, that little metal clip inside actually slides down over the threads & snaps snugly into place. It does not screw on like I originally thought. It's a good tight fit into the concave interior of the cap. How it will hold up under vibration is another story.

But I intend to find out. I ordered three more to go with my one I bought out of curiosity. Will post an update later. I've used resister plugs before with no problems.

Many parts catalogs have NGK caps priced up to $37.00 each. I've been using Amazon's NGK normal horizontal caps with no problems whatsoever....at $2.41 U.S. These 45 degree caps are just over $6.00 on Amazon. Why pay more?

I did a complete strobe & landing light system on my Drifter for $175. "Drifter Flying Part 2 by William Catalina....on YouTube if you'd like to see it.

I think 120 degree is the correct term as 45 degrees would be a closed angle would it not?

  3. My tyres wear out too fast. I operate mainly from Gawler, with asphalt taxyways. The wheels were set up with 2 degrees toe-in, because I thought this was right at the time. Now I'm having second thoughts, since the legs are swept forward, maybe I should set it up with toe-OUT?

The tyres actually wear out more on one side, which I think is a sign that they are scrubbing.

Here's a pic of how I measured the alignment...straight bits of timber clamped to the wheels and tape-measures at the wheel and well in front.

I have a Jab UL500. I land mostly on grass but my tyres wear evenly. Jabitru manual for the UL sayto set them to 0.

  4. Hi toady - try this Fixing Black Screen on Nexus 7 - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com PS which version do you have? With or without the rear facing camera?

Thanks coljones. With the rear camera. I have tried all that and more, there is a lot around on the internet about rebooting them. Ordered and fitted a new battery but still no joy. It's a shame because when it worked it was perfect with good signal strength and a very clear image, I would want to bag them too much I guess. I still have it so I might have another shot at sending it somewhere. I am currently using an iPad mini without a sim and adding a Badelf dongle. So far all very good.

    Cheers

  5. Nexus 7s can be fixed by a reload of the OS. You might have to ring around to some repair shops - usually run by very smart young kids. Or you could flog them on EBay. My 2 are going just fine.

coljones I would love to resurrect and be able to use my nexus7 as a backup. Do you have any idea what causes them to go blank though? I hear they have charging issues but mine went blank while using them.(not while navigating) It's been sitting around for a year but I'm willing to have another shot.

  6. Hi all, I'm contemplating purchase of a computer tablet for navigation use in the cockpit of my Savannah G aircraft and seek other pilot's comments on choice of screen size and which is the more popular size and why. I am inclined to Samsung Galaxy S2 tablets which come in 8 and 9.7 inch screen size. Though stating the obvious, the larger screen should be easier to read but is it too large a size for the cockpit?? Cheers and thanks, Matt Walsh at Penfield, Victoria.

I have both an ipad(work use) and and ipad mini(mine). They are about average in size for the general tablet. I found personally the larger ipad gave a magic viewing size but I couldn't find anywhere in my Jabiru where it wasn't in something elses' road. So I just put it on the seat beside me. The ipad mini gives a usable screen size and it fitted nicely on top of my instrument cowling without getting in too much of the way. I have it on a fold down bracket to fully clear my field of vision when landing/T/off.

Incidently I have had 2 Nexus 7s (1 a warranty replacement) and both went blank while in use, never to go again. Excellent while it worked though.

  7. I sense an element of bloodymindedness in this conversation. I too enjoyed collecting a backlog of reference material that was taking over my office space. We wouldn't skimp on other safety items, if you feel the magazine kept you in touch then you should buy it. I downloaded the ISSUU app to my ipad and when I want to read the magazine I touch the icon and I'm there (for free). Past issues as well as the latest. It gives me another justification for buying the ipad and my cleaning lady (duck, weave) appreciates the coffee table space as well. None of this is a revelation, I just faced the change and moved on. Yes I'm fairly certain Anroide has an app for Issuu.

  8. I have a UL 500 -6 registered for 500 kg. (empty weight 296kg ) I recently asked Jabiru about uprating it to 544kg and was given a flat 'No'

  9. Thanks Mike, yes I have been on the web having a look at some of it in the last few minutes. It's fascinating and a pity they don't seem to be able to settle on a sensible set of rules. Although I have always had a love of flying I have only just scratched the surface as far as getting involved in aviation and in particular Jabirus.(Usual late starter) I have a long way to go compared to your experience and I am only beginning to understand the complexities of this new hobby. Thank you for you warm welcome, I will watch your posts with keen interest and perhaps meet you some day if I can ever get to a fly in.

    Cheers Jim.

  10. Hi, thanks. It's a rebuild actually. The 'plane was first built in '98. I have had it for about 10 months. No pictures worth viewing yet but if I'm not too ashamed of it when I'm finished I'll post something. I'm trying to bring it up to all current specs. Engine rebuild, rewire, undercarriage, brakes, partial repaint, 12 channel egt/cht. I'm waiting on a custom vhf/uhf/intercom system. Having a ball. Tell me a bit about the Avocet.

  11. Hi, Just joined my first forum. Achieved my RAA cert in September '14. I have a Jab UL500 3300 that is about 95% ready and about 95% to go.(I've promised myself it will fly by July but I also promised myself it would fly by March)
