I went and had a good time, met up with Ross Millard and his wife, made some new friends & enjoyed the air shows. The Spitfire just sounds great & looks beautiful. Matt Hall was sensational on the Saturday, as was his forum.
Yes numbers were down, a LOT less underwing campers and number of campers in general. As others have mentioned there were quite a few people with young families, that was great to see.
Regular big name distributers were there but not much else to rummage through and spend dollars on. Not even a pilot shop. I would hate to see the event disappear so I'll still support it next year.
Here are some pictures.
Cheers

Hey that's a bit rough Djp, that was some other bloke above you, I drain down to another fellow below me he adds to it and sends on to the bloke below him then it drains down through the forest.Look down the mountain - your water used to drain into my place. My complaint is the money to the council has never gone to any effort by them to actually manage the drainage

We're on tank water too and don't pay anything for water/sewage/rubbish in the rates... yet...
Give some greedy Councillor a little time & they will be onto it >:(

Well we pay around $140 P/A to the greedy Yarra Valley and we are on 0ur own Tank Water....mind $75 is for Parks but they claim the rest is for drainage, mmmmm, there isn't anything in place for drainage.

Wat to go AJ - onwards & upwards :)

I like a landline as a further backup in bad weather fires etc - living in the hills mobile reception is bad any way so I'll stick to all forms :)

oops .... should have lead with an "IF.." it would be a nice overnighter though :)If 124NM is local. I have a few old pix from '77. might dig them out one day and fly over there. -
Sorry Kaz I can't help you there.Thank you!The old super 8 at Benalla brings back a few memories. Was that Mike Valentine with the Kookaburra, I saw. And Bill Sherwell in the Chippie, too?Kaz
I saw the gliders when passing through Benella & pulled in to watch.
I didn't know anyone there.

The first is some low quality Super8 of gliding at Benella (Think I had ASA 400 film for some stupid reason)
The second is a video I did on my way back from my honeymoon :) Very early video so VHS quality.

John Rowe also liked to collect the (Japanese) out landed aircraft the fly them back INVERTED the whole way, just to keep himself amused!Yep, Mick Doyle sent me solo, and John Rowe took me through spins and loops in a Twin Astire. At the end of the day he loved to swoop over and dump ballast water on us.What brought all this reminiscing on was a Sunday night BBQ at the Gliding club after Ausfly this year.
Beryl seemed to have all the history & it made me dig back into my dark & dingy boxes of junk.
Your local so you should go to their Saturday/sometimes Sunday night BBQ's - good price for lots of food & drinks, also could bring lots
more memories once you get chatting.

Great memories, H. I did two one-week stints in '76 and '77. Our lectures were held in the old WWII fibro building which collapsed while they were trying to relocate it a few years back.
An indelible memory is when just before takeoff Mick, the instructor suddenly got out and closed the canopy. Focusses the attention and boosts the ego all at once.
I loved the end-of-day "hangar flight" when I could land Blanic UX fast, close the flaps and roll around the taxi way and line up to enter the hanger that was later demolished.
Should be a law against old farts reminiscing...
Ha Ha!!
Would that be Big Red Beard Mick Doyle?
He was flying the tug the day I did my 5hrs - he took me into the centre of a thermal & started circling. I wasn't sure what was going on at first, quite an unconventional method
from the normal straight up.
I saw him furiously waving at me to unhook, it was virtually a slingshot into the sky, ha ha.
I also remember the end of day - John Rowe the CFI flew me once. We had barley lifted off the ground & he released. To this day I have no idea how he could keep that thing
flying for so long. He flew it all the way till the last minute & landed, ready for tie down and it was the long way round!.
Too many laws these days so reminisce as much as you want ;)

My videos aren't nicely produced like Ignition's (nice job by the way:), just raw footage bumped together.
For those who couldn't make it here is a glimpse of what we saw over the weekend.
Apologies for all the wind noise - pretty annoying especially when you really just want to listen to that Spitfire ;)
Be warned the videos are quite long as I didn't cut them back.
Cheers

If you want to wade through long videos theres one of aircraft there & the last bit the Tandem aerobatics of the Pitts:
