  1. Top work Alex, the RFDS is an extremely rewarding job and all the pilots I talk to are fantastic people, who are more than accommodating in the air and on the ground. The 170 is a great training platform and will set you up well. Keep us posted of your progress.

Here's an old thread I put a couple of pics on of an RFDS mission and the type of strips they get in to.

  2. Moving on from the other great thread about Propellors and rain damage, I've also noticed that my prop has a few smaller stone chips out towards the tips. They are only very small and nothing out of the ordinary compared to most props on A/C I've used, but does anyone know if you can touch them up and if so what methods are used, or if this should be left to a professional to do in addition to the normal maintenance of your propellor? Do these chips cause a loss of prop performance apart from balance issues?

  3. I have one Matt, it's the all white painted unit. I've just ticked over 100hrs and it seems to give me a couple of extra knots cruise and it seems to be holding up quite well, given that a few of the other sensenich's have had a tendancy to crack on the backside of the blade, which is quite thin compared to the jabiru prop. my 120 climbs like a homesick angel, even at max weight. i noticed the other day with 1023 pressure, 29 deg oat, i was getting between 800-1000fpm climb with 2pob and max weight which i think is quite reasonable.

  4. There has been a lot of talk on here about different APPs (Computer Program Applications) for smart phones and the information now available through these different apps. This thread is for everyone with a smart phone to list their flying related apps so others can see what they are using and perhaps even update to use something others use.

As you update and add more apps, you can come back in here and update/edit your post with the new details.

I use the following on my Iphone for flying-

    1. Ozrunways

    2. Oz weather (BOM radar)

    3. Itorch4 (pre-flight nspections and in case of emergency, handy flashing strobe with sos also)

    4. Google Earth App

    5. Browser Bookmarks- Airservices Australia Website, BOM Website Radars, Elders Weather,

    6. Horizon (Artificial Horizon, for fun and not an actual instrument)

What do others have and use for flying purposes?

  5. Awesome work, i was waiting for the maps function to come in but couldn't wait so just got the ersa function the other day, direct from the website (avoiding apple fees). Will I be able to access the maps function when it is realeased through my current subscription?

Keep up the great work, this functionality is really leaping ahead in leaps and bounds and only serves to provide more information to pilots to safely plan trips etc.

  6. Win, how did you go on the landings? The savvy flies pretty dam slow from what I've seen, did you find it a lot different in the flair to the Texan?

I remember an oldtimer at the local radio control flying field once saying, "it doesn't mater colour you paint em, they're all black in the air..."

  7. Whoa Spin, you're game! I think it's great that we can do things to promote aviation for females and I think they bring a great perspective to the sport. An example I can recall was reading BecM's flight training blog and realising how similar her experiences were to mine. I also enjoy reading Kaz's posts and think it would be great to have a greater representation of women flying. Social engineering...hmmm? Target advertising...more like it to me.

Anything that can be done to increase female participation in what has over the years been a predominently male pursuit, is a good thing!:thumb_up::thumb_up:
