  1. Attached are some photo's from some trials we did recently at Gawler towing behind my J230-C.

So far so good and reasonable climb was achieved (500fpm) and CHT temperatures were fine.

The test however was conducted with single seat gliders only and at 18.5 C, there is still a way to go to see how successful it will be.

  2. I have had a similar response, flying back from Bundy when collecting the aircraft I put on carby heat as a precautionary measure about 30 minutes into flight at around 4500 ft and experienced an increase in RPM in about 10 seconds.

  3. Hi Pete,

Thanks for the tip but I will have to wait until I fix the more immediate problems. See Ultralight crashes at Gawler in the Incidents and Accidents section for more info :-)

  4. Ok Andy since you asked nicely :-) The D stands for Dark. They are bringing out a configuration that is certified for night flying. i.e. Radio with ILS all the required lighting including cabin and wing etc. Probably a few other things that I am not aware off. Interestingly there is talk that it will replace the 230C and be the standard in the future.

  5. Interesting. I had heard of this when I first questioned the directional control while taking off and landing it was mentioned as a possible cause however I must admit not following it through.

I assume you have done this and confirmed the results?

  6. See below for an article in todays Adelaide Advertiser. Although not an RAAus Airfield Parafield looks like it is certainly on the developers hitlist of land close the the CBD in Adelaide.

A SECOND major airport for South Australia could be built near Monarto "in the next 10 to 20 years".

Later this month, local government leaders from the Murraylands, Fleurieu and Adelaide Hills will meet and are expected to offer their support for the project. Murraylands Regional Development Board chief executive Brenton Lewis told The Advertiser yesterday the airport would be part of a "transport hub" which would provide connections for rail and road transport.

It is predicted the airport alone would create up to 700 jobs.

"This project would costs hundreds of millions of dollars . . . but we believe our region is the best-equipped for another major airport in SA," he said. "We have identified land in the Monarto area as the preferred spot . . . "

The airport could include relocating Parafield Airport.

Adelaide Airport corporate affairs manager John McArdle said Adelaide Airport Limited had a 99-year lease for Parafield Airport in its current location.

  7. Well pointed out. Next time I will check my work before submitting :-)

You are correct it is the camber rather than the toe in that I am talking about.

  8. Pete, I have the same problem with mine. There has been lots of talk in our club about this. One of the schools fo thought is that the undercarriage they have used on the 160 is actually meant for 700kg and is the same as the 230. Hence unless you have full weight in the aircraft they will tow in. Having said that I have also discovered what appears to be an inconsistancy in the undercarriage on my aircraft. It looks like one of legs were not cleaned up correctly after being removed from the mold and this has caused excessive toe in on the passenger side to add to the problem. I have planned via an engineer to have a look at this and some adjustments.

I will take a photo next time I am at the field so you can see what I am talking about.

  9. I agree about the service I have never had anything but excellent service. I remember the Microair split and I was in fact offered a different radio for my 160 last year at the time but now it is all good again.
