  1. Question! Does the maker of aircraft skins need to approval and or certification to supply skins for legal use on a factory made aircraft? Or...is there no difference or issues regarding the legality when used on either a kit built verses factory built aircraft? I.E. 25-xxxx rego verses 19-xxxx rego.

HI Wayne you must be working on my road then as that's where I live ..Craig

  3. My best mate Shaun Edwards was killed in a ppc Saturday morning 10km south of Theodore at a property .We are not sure of what happened as yet as we have to wait for the inquest .I have flown with Shaun many times and he was very careful and did not take risks .He was flying a machine called a fast away with a 500 sq chute we flew together last week end after attending the old station flyin had a great weekend and was topped off by a great morning fly. I heard the news while I was at Watts bridge flyin and I had to get my thoughts together to fly home was the hardest fly of my life .Shaun was a big man and with a equally big heart would do anything for anybody his close family is a mess but they know the flying community is like a big family and will rally behind arch his dad ,pearl his mum ,shyanne his brother , and the extended family's

  4. Hi All,A mate of mine has this ppc on his cattle station near Townsville,It was previously owned by his uncle who received ppc Training and then bought this contraption he flew it once in gusty weather and nearly parked it in a tree and that was the end of his ppc flying career.

It got packed up and parked in the hangar and hasn't been touched since. Can anybody provide any details on the type? its also for sale if anybody is interested in making an offer.

  5. Yes Kasper, it is the one from Tenterfield. Did you get this info (only 1 twin ignition 503 kestrel in the register), or do you have more knowledge on this aircraft's history?

    Thanks Howard,

I would love the chance to meet up with you guys and have a good look at your Kestrels. Where about are the 4 based at?

You would know Barry Evans, I like Barry also fly RC models and we used to be in the same RC Club.

I have not seen Barry for a few years but I see he has now donated his Kestrel to the Qld Air Museum at Caloundra. I had caught up with him a few times with his Kestrel but of course, don't remember much about the aircraft 'cause at the time I wasn't in the market for one! Now all I want to do is look at every nut & bolt on other Kestrels and take a 1000 photos plus 1500 questions!

A did have an aircraft back in '81 but there was no rego then!

It's a learning curve for me........Thanks to everyone who have responded so far....it's highly appreciated, but don't stop, I really wish to learn as much about this aircraft as I can and that includes finding it's previous rego.

Howard, mine does not have a rear fuselage skin like most Kestrels that I've seen, should it have one or did some not have it?

I will have to catch up in a few weeks, my wife and I are off to PNG on the P&O Pacific Dawn for 10 days R & R!

    Regards,

  6. Craig,Yep, I am in the club here - no worries if you want to head out this way. (and the Drifter you were flying was 55-977. I learnt in it and recall hearing about that trip)

One of the members here has an S14 which I have been flying, as he is yet to get a license. Good fun little thing - I like it, but it is 503 with a the 31ft wings, so I imagine you have the shorter wings and higher VNE etc. If you need to see another, let me know and it will be easy done. Not quite as flash as yours. Funny - I have been on the trail of S12's for a while now....

  7. Ok cool yeah they are great little planes I also have a x air which is what I learnt in its got heaps of extras like long rang tanks so thinking of flying to meandarra were i work this weekend I think i will sell it then fly it and change my mind but will have to come to the realisation that I can't have 2 one day . I also fly aero chutes and paramotors cost to much to keep everything current wish it was all under one licence with endorsements..Craig

  8. Hi mine has to be machined to fit bolly prop there's a few hundred dollars difference but I would care if I get a result . Yes mine is from Gatton the previous owner said 95 knts and will exceed the VNE which has not been the case for me .I contacted the guy who built it and he said 90ish .We have played with the prop checked the SOG and all surfaces so alls left to do now is change prop.Iv been onto the rans clan forum but nowon has the 912 ul there been in contact with a heap of guys with the 503 .Rans are great they sent me all the other owners of that model. On another note I tried calling the RomaRecreational aero club 2weeks ago was going to fly out but the guys who's ph number is on the web site never got back to me do you still have a club there ? The only time iv been there was to fly a drifter back to Chinchilla for Mike Toey..Regards Craig

  9. Hi Seb thanks I looked at bolly but after speaking to the warp drive people he said I would get better proformance and better cruise out of this tapered tip as thats what all the guys who have this model are going to and reacon increase by 5/10mph and I don't have to change the hub. Mine is a 912ul so should get a few more knots than what I'm getting .I would try a bolly if I could buy a 2nd one with a hub for the 912..RegardsCraig
