Supplementary question - there are no longer mandatory or recommended advisory calls upon entry to either these south or north bound lanes?
I watched a recent You Tube video where a GA pilot made an advisory call at Brooklyn on 125.8 - correct to do, advisable to do, unnecessary?
-
I have been meaning to ask this question for the last month or so.
I live near Carlingford Court NSW 2118 directly below the Bankstown Lane of entry.
About a month ago a seaplane has started to use the lane to travel southbound (spotted at least three times).
In 20 years at this address, this is the only a/c that I have ever seen travel in this direction.
So my question is - are there any circumstances where this lane can be used for southbound traffic?
-
Has anyone developed a cockpit checklist for this unit? I would be very interested to see one.
I seem to recall Jabiruphil (correct user name ?) had some input on these in the past.

Is there a simple way to reverse a plan in Ozrunways?

Just when I thought I pretty much understood the new format..this was for our local area today.
As you can see from the map there is an area B1 - but there is no reference to B1 in the text boxes.
Is this more likely an error? - or is it standard and if an area is "silent" and not mentioned, then one reads the conditions for the "parent" area - in this case B1 is "silent", so B conditions prevail?

Try to find a syndicate - best move I ever made - but there is a real lack of a central "marketplace" info for those wanting to join/create a syndicate.
Happy to share our running costs - offline.

Not my NAIPS app - do you need to install a new one? - Area screen still shows all old areas.
-
Welcome - OzRunways SupportHas any one else had trouble logging into Naips?, went to check weather today and does not want to Let me log in.It might be overload from the new GAFs. -
What's the answer to :
elevator jammed?

I have just returned from 5 weeks o/s and have noted that the BoM are soon removing Area Wind Forecasts and replacing them with Graphical Area Forecast (GAF) on 9th November 2017.
Can I safely assume that for exam purposes after 9/11 that it will be acceptable to CFI's to use the GAF's?

Great photos - I would love to make that trip one day.Good idea. I'll get some photos next time I'm at the airfield.I would be fantastic if you could share any tips etc for mitigating the lack of forced landing areas on your particular route.

Apart from the obvious safety considerations can anyone clarify the requirement for reporting overflying at certain locations?
CASA seems to imply that it only applies to registered Aerodromes (so would exclude, for example, Warkworth YWKW) but the VFRG implies that it applies to all Airfields published in ERSA (Warkworth is in ERSA).

I know it's difficult trying to arrange things from o/s - but I would try to take a trial flight at both. Camden is much quieter - which is good for beginners but Bankstown has many more a/c movements which is good for building your experience. I would expect that the schools in Camden are a little cheaper and would be more flexible with their availability. Thanks for your reply. Should I choose Camden or Bankstown for my flight training? You might also want to try a couple of different instructors as their styles are all very different.
I took my RPL at Camden and enjoyed every moment.

I need to perform an in flight diversion on my next XC - the diversion needs to be planned in the cockpit en route.
It's a bit of vague question but do you have any tips or tricks around being "organised" for this?
-
So I have the RPL with controlled airspace - can I not use the Raaus with XC endo to get there? You will need the RPC XC endo to fly the plane more than 25nm. You will need an RPL with Controlled airspace to get into Camden (controlled) airspace (the last 2 miles) -
I'm glad this came up - I have been meaning to ask for a while :At present, as I understand it, there are no "appropriate endorsements" to fly on an RAAus licence in controlled airspace. You have to have an RPL with endorsements or a PPL or CPL etc. ( let's call it an appropriate GA licence for ease of writing. You can fly an RAAus aircraft into controlled airspace provided you as the pilot have:
1. An RAAus certificate to entitle you to fly the aircraft
AND
2.an appropriate GA licence to entitle you to use the airspace
AND
3. The aircraft is equipped with a transponder and radio.
There is a loophole for you though.
Alice springs is only class C or D during tower hours 22:30Z to 08:30Z. Outside those hours it reverts to Class G so if you were able to restrict your flying in and out to outside those times you can do it on an RAAus licence.
I got both my RA-aus Pilot cert and RPL at Camden - I now have the Ra-Aus cross country endo and have an a/c based at Cessnock.
Can I fly from Cessnock to Camden - essentially using the Ra-Aus then the RPL for the last 10nm? - or do I still have to do the RPL cross-county endo?

That sounds logical but I don't think that is what I am looking at - otherwise it is telling me that the Lowest Safe Altitude over the YCNK/YDEN area is between 5,600 and 6,600 feetThe big number would be 1000's ft and the smaller one 100's ft the grid's Lowest Safe Altitude with the boundaries with the grey box. Same as the ERC Low which have them depicted in green. Not sure what the colour coding is with the red and pink -
I think this has appeared since I turned on the LSALT boundary - now dotted around the map view I can see combinations of a LARGE numeral with a smaller numeral to the top right - combinations are various and also appear either in pink or red - what are these?

Where is the thread on Met Conditions, please? It is the most repeated fatal, but there is precious little information supplied by CASA to learn from other than broad-based statements. I started a thread on this site hoping people could come forward with better ways to identify Met conditions which might trap a pilot, but very little information has come forward. We can certainly learn not to fly with less than the legal distance from cloud, but what happens when the weather closes in behind and around you? -
Aircraft can depart from the circuit by extending one of the four legs and are only allowed to turn away from the extended leg when well clear of the circuit (which I always interpret as 3nm)What about departures? Where is "Departing crosswind" come into the mix?Sorry, just want to get it right. -
(FLAME PROOF JACKET AT THE READY)I like this :

Gee some terms have been "adjusted" since I started flying and I am sure people will start to remember other ones which have also changed.
Here is my example. Runway 36. See picture.
Sorry it doesn't show ALL the arrows: problems with the program and cropping.

Red: UPWIND
Orange: CROSSWIND
Yellow: DOWNWIND
(Base got cropped off)
Light Green: FINAL
And that's fair enough when arriving.
But the other green line (arrow also cropped off - pointing RIGHT) is ........?
Departing Cross Wind?
Or is it supposed to be LEFT pointing and still called Departing Cross Wind?
And the blue line towards the bottom...... Joining Cross Wind?
I know nowadays it is "mid field" but I kinda made the runway too small and only for clarity did I put it there.
Where is "CROSS WIND"? Originally to me it was: over the numbers at the OTHER END of the runway.
Then it became halfway down the runway - midpoint between the numbers.
Which kind of makes sense if the darker green arrow is supposed to be LEFT pointing and also halfway between the numbers.
I'm not saying I'm stupid. There are enough people already doing that.
But I wan to get it clear in my mind what is what and where things are.
Again: I don't think the picture is helping - &*^&&*^*^ paint program and cropping. (I'm using Linux and "painta" is not good at cropping then "Crop to selected"..... It crops to what it wants instead.)
But to "put it out there" for any other noobs who may be a bit vague on where things are in circuits.

Just what I was looking for - thank you - where did you/could I read this?Clearance from controlled and active restricted airspace depend on what altitude you intend to fly at. Below 2001 ft: 1nm, 2001 to 5000ft: 2nm, and 5001 to 10,000 ft: 4 nm. Hope this helps! -
Apologies - I meant Restricted. There is no 'active prohibited '. Prohibited is prohibited. Restricted has activated, not activated. Might be wise to look up the aip. I was taught 1 m from boundary.
Notam question
in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Posted
Others of you have probably noticed the increase in aerial survey aircraft over the Sydney basin since lockdown.
It appears they are chiefly Oberon Aviation (power grid ?) and NSW Rural Fire Service.
They typically are c. 2,200 ft and have often been operating in popular corridors making multiple passes over a compact area.
I have checked several times and am yet to see one Notam - so my question is what warrants the obligation
to seek and have a Notam issued?
