There are no droplets of fuel if that was the case the carby is not doing its job. Also it’s not possible one side of
the engine to run lean and other run rich. With all your knowledge you should be able to build the perfect jab engine.
i modified my engine to run optimal but you keep saying this probably won’t work or maybe that won’t work.

thanks for your comments I had a different air cleaner on mine with that pressure flap and it made little
diferance. I am trying to convince everyone to install a air fuel ratio gauge.

I don’t know the advantages of the intake Change good I would think. I had no experience with the
3300 only 2200. I changed the air cleaner used a auto filter I had the early corse fin heads at times I thought
the heads where to cool. I have since sold the plane I believe it’s still trouble free flying.

How do you know it did,not make any difference what where you trying to achieve did you say you have not flown
it yet. How do you know if it is running lean or rich.

The first thing you have to do is change the intake from nakaduct to side intake. Jabiru has finely done this,
A naturaly asperated engine can’t have pressure into the intake. The best thing is fuel injections people say
it won’t be reliable how many cars stop because of the computer injection.

I am writing from hands on expereance my jab 2200 flew over 600 hrs with out any problems how much has all the other

Have any problems. Lycoming and Continental need mixture ajusment.

A 6 cyl jab into a skyfox has already been done, kitfox in the USA have up to 180 HP.

Mate you want to read my reply you don’t get itDon't bother doing that. The engine is too heavy and the Vne is too low to use the power. .re the mixtures the variation is the problem. No one can design a manifold to keep them even. Nev -
I read a lot of suggestions of what you should do. I can tell you from experience the 3300 and 2200 are a very good engine the problem is they run to lean an air cooled engine rely on fuel and mixture to keep cool. and one of the problems is the nacka duct intake the engine cant have forsted air into the carb. jabiru have fixed this by a
flat intake on the side no forced air to carb. I owned a 2200 4 cyl i fitted a air fuel ratio gauge with all the other gauges is indicated if it was running lean or rich. To ajust mixture I fitted a butter fly in the intake just after the nacka duck the old coarse fin heads where cool same the EGT. I done 600 or more hrs no trouble. Jabiru tryed to
build a air cooled engine that we could start and fly with no ajustments lycoming and cont could,nt do that. I am not sure as to the new intake mod if this solves the problem but I would not fly a jab without the air fuel ratio gauge and some means of rich or lean device and your engine will last. I am not nocking jabiu they have done a
great job manufacturing the engine. I hope in the future buy a skyfox and fit a 3300 6 cyl.

With my jab if the batt does not turn it quick enough and cold mornings is the worst times. But I should say when it starts it will start all day. I rebuilt my engine and the flywheel bolts where tight with locktight. Cheers...then my tiny 120CCA battery might be the best match- it could only just turn the engine over fast enough. -
The battry people say it good to have a trickle going in when not in use.Is there any advantage to using a solar panel?I stopped using a panel years ago and got better life from my Odyssey. Haven't used it with the Fullriver.- 1

i have a j160 2200 I have used in the past odyssey batteries 525 - 625 cca. The last odyssey was on the verg of quitting I rang around and heard about the Full River battries I was a bit sceptical. They are quite a bit cheaper
I bit the bullet and bought one a 525 CCA. I have room on the top engine side of the firewall on the top so the battery sits vertical this battry is a little bigger so I didn't mind shifting it. The first time I started I was shocked it spun it over so fast none of the other battries where As good so if I get 2-3 years I will be happy. One thing I have added is a solar panel I would recommend any one To give these battries a go.

Hi johnWhen I bought my J400 (3300 engine) a few years ago I could never get the engine to start at anything below 5C (38F) without preheating the carb with a hair drier - tried every “old trick in the book” for starting cold engines to no avail.Fitted the Jab cold start kit and problem solved, the engine always starts immediately within 1-2 revolutions regardless of ambient / engine temperature..I also have a small (mains powered) 80W frost heater fitted under the cowl with an insulated blanket on top of the cowl during the winter, this makes for perfect starting with or without choke, and (more importantly) eliminates any chance of condensation forming inside / outside of the engine when in the hanger.
Bad starting “hammers” the flywheel bolts, and any condensation will eventually destroy the Jab engine internals especially if not regularly flown.
It would sound yours was spark problem we read all the stories of spark or fuel in my case it was lake of fuel.
The jab has the carb under engine so it has problem getting fuel up to the heads and the choke is a bypass jet.
Works great on a motor bike carb is right at the intake port. Jab say it must spin at 300 rpm to start is that to draw the fuel up to the heads or to creat a spark.

We must all agree jabs start excellent when hot.Interesting experience, Hyundai. I was told that the original Jab coils wouldn't fire unless the engine exceeded 270 rpm, but I reckon Frank is right: even one rotation should be enough, as long as the rotor passes the stator fast enough to trigger a spark. Seems like lots of people have had success with drilling out the choke to about 1.5mm.Slightly related: recently I had Ignition (once active on this forum) dynamically balance my prop. During the process he noticed the poor idling. This had often resulted in the engine cutting out on late final. At his suggestion I replaced the plugs and reset the idle jet 1.25 turns out. It now starts more easily and idle is smooth down to 800rpm. No more swapping hands to restart the engine after touchdown.- 1

I would hav to disagree so what your saying at 100 rpm it may have spark at 300 rpm it would have no spark.Think rate of turn, i.e. speed of the magnet passing the coil, induced voltage, not RPM.Because when cold the jab won't start at 300 rpm. So what your saying cold 300 rpm jab won't start so put a half dead battery it will start. Next time cold morning a good batterie won't start I will try choking the inlet and see what happens. I will keep the forum posted on what happens. Cheers

Hi Old koreeSome good news for people using Jabiru engines. This kit is inexpensive and it doesn't take long to installI just found out how good it is. I always hand-turn the donk at least ten blades to get the oil flowing and check compressions. To save weight I use a tiny battery (Deka 120 CCA). It's getting old and weak and this morning could barely turn the engine over, so after the first couple of laboured rotations it looked like we were going nowhere. I made a forlorn 2nd attempt and she fired up. What a great improvement!As Molly used to say: Do yourself a favour...
I was thinking about cold start kit but the other day in the morning the batty was on the way out, I had forgotten to remove the intake foam plug. I hit the starter it struggled one turn then started boy did it run rich. Then after I thought if the engine has to turn at 300 rpm to create a spark how then did it start on just one to 2 turns.
Another thought the coils come off a Honda motor they don't have to spin a 2 two 3 hundred RPM.
I did drill the choke jet out to 1.2 and made a difference, so I am thinking is it not enough fuel or spark.

One thing I would do when fitting long life plugs remove them every 100 hrs or so. Years ago I fitted, any one remember Golden Lodge plugs ?? To a Holden after a long time I went to remove one it broke off In the head it seized. Just a thought. Hyundai

I overhauled my engine at xmas done about 20 hrs puled it through one morning found 3 cylinders had very little compression i had used Grant piston rings.
I stripped it down and honed replaced with Hastings rings all cylinders are up to specs now I wonder was Grant rings the problem ????
The engine sounds more crisp and performs better. What is the change over for D9EA plugs to dubble platinum plugs any one know. Cheers Hyundai

Yes, i know they're tight, real tight. i've had a few flats over the yrs, breaking that bead bonding can be a real pain to get the tube out, so i wipe a smear of lanolin along that bonding area to help remove the rim half, when i again get a flat ( i'm a glass 1/2 full guy ) ....so running low air pressures is iffy.
I will keep mine at 15 psi will post if I have a problem.
