There's a F150 Rolls Royce aerobat at the local airfield. Lovely aircraft

The brother in law visits once a year from Oz. He usually looks like he is going snowboarding during the summer!I was there in summer once, it 25 Deg and it was a heat wave, almost had to take the jumper off!!I fly the J170, very similar to the J160. Handles very well and I have never had any issues.I believe the difference between the 160 and 170 is the wingspan? Thanks for the reply

Don't be so sure. Sometimes we have a summer heatwave in the UK where it hits 15 degree Celsius for a week.
It's so depressing

I've barely flown the past few months. Our airfield is closed due the runway and taxiway being ten inches deep with mud
Regarding the D motor, I believe it is the engine of choice for the Sherwood light aircraft company who are now also distributors.

Currently looking at home build options in the UK and quite tempted by the Jab 160.
Done a bit of reading on the uk forums, spoke to a few LAA guys and they reckon the engines are fine as long as they're maintained, updated and inspected correctly. There are quite a few UL, 430/230 and older models in the UK but very few 160s which makes asking advice over here a bit difficult!
I'm primarily looking at hour building so cheap to run and cheap to maintain were my priorities (and the 160 seems to meet that seeing as the Jab uses automotive parts) but what are they like to fly? I'm aware they're used by flight schools in Oz so imagine they're pretty sedate?
Current experience is on a C42 Ikarus and a C150 Cessna if either of those are similar.
Cheers

Do you get the French Reims Cessna in Oz? (F-152) I believe they were corrosion proofed at the factory unlike those manufactured in the USA.Watch corrosion in some Pipers. There was a period where they were not well treated. This applies to Cessna's too but the best are based on the seaplane 180 series. Really good C-182 isn't a bad thing but you are going up in costs for servicing. Having your own hangar is nice to avoid hangar rash. Planes are not CHEAP to own. If you were in a good syndicate with a Bonanza or Debonair, that might be nice, but don't bend it. Nev -
If looking at two-seaters, would an Evektor Sportstar be any good?
Good on fuel, cheaper to maintain and very nice to fly.

Vegetables? Waste of meat spaceI must be a veganlambI love having peas & potatoes with my lamb. -
I think meat in Oz was about 2/3s the price of that in the UKActually a send up of UK/Europe where meat prices (and rent) are sky high forcing people to ditch meat from their diets. The vegan touch might also reflect on the high cost of any animal protein including cheeses. They turn into latterday Goldwing riders, such is their despair (and have probably descended into Apple users as well. Pity, most are actually nice people. If the ad producers really wanted to be controversial, they could do a send up of liberating sheep from sexual slavery in New Zealand. Ended with a brash Aussie at his bbq saying "That's how you spit roast a lamb......filthy kiwis"

Was sadly untrue. As much as I dislike Cameron, it was a lie that has found 'truth' with the far left who are rarely concerned with facts. Produced some fantastic pictures though! We know you poms love a nice moist pig's head -
Are you chucking school leavers into university to drop unemployment figures too? We did this in the UK and have ended up with thousands, possibly millions, of sociology graduates whose degree description is "learn to be professionally offended".apparently the use of the word Boomerang in the add has been deemed racist! seriously, WTF? the whinging in this country makes me hate the place sometimes..The trouble is that they command a lot of attention due to the noise they make

enjoy! Flying will be one of the best things you'll ever experience :)

Hope they're told to do something more worthwhile with their time!Ha ha, the Vegans are complaininghttp://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-01-11/vegans-lodge-complaints-over-lamb-ad/7081706Like eating Lamb

Fantastic!
We used to have humour like that in the UK until the dark times of everyone getting offended by anything possible.
I had a similar expression on my face of "Vegan!?!?" when a tea total Aussie joined my old rugby club

"The picture above shows what we all dream about on a long haul flight (other than the upgrade to business)…the illusive spare seat! How do I get one of these you ask???? Well, I have this nifty trick that I use. When I choose my seats I pick a window for myself and an aisle for Randy, leaving the middle seat spare. Now we all know that no one likes the middle seat and we all avoid it like the plague. I have found that 90% of the time, if the flight is not completely full, that middle seat stays empty giving us the space we so crave on the 14 hour journey to LA. In the event that someone is allocated the middle seat I ‘take one for the team’ and move into it so that Randy and I can sit together, all the while making friend for life with the person who thought that he/she was stuck with that awful middle seat. Give it a go next time you fly, you’ve got nothing to lose and space to gain!"
A couple on our last flight tried this. They ended up with a rather rotund individual in the middle who refused to swap seats on the 11 hours flight from Dubai to Oz

Might look into those myself. Gets good reviews! (Also known as Groppo Trial)the Groppo Trail looks nice. all alloy, folding wings, no jabiru- 1

Might be of interest too. A chap is flying solo from the tip of Norway to Cape Town in SA
-
Good effort regardless, but I was under the impression that she has a huge support team so not really solo?

I'll be disappointed if it didn't end up on a barbecueAny word on the eagle? -
Not sure if you can get them in Oz, but the TLAC Sherwood aircraft are folding-wing
The C42 Ikarus might be another option but they don't seem too popular over your way (even though it's a superb aircraft)
