  1. Ah, you have opened a can of worms here!!! My husband is both a instrument rated pilot and a drone pilot (UOC licensed). CASA is about to bring in some new laws for drones in Australia which will not only endanger pilots, but the general public as well. Check out his video, it explains it really well.

  2. Great suggestion and love your blog. Amazing how similar our circumstances are (My better half is the hair dresser too - Can you talk her into being my right seat Navi, please).

You know hairdressers make the best wives! It's a shame your wife is not too keen to fly. When Randy bought his plane I too was a little hesitant, and the comments from my friends did little to calm my nerves as most of them said that they would not go up in a small plane! Tell her not to listen to them. The first thing Randy did to calm me was to buy a cirrus. That parachute has given me an enormous sense of comfort, and I have done the partner in command course in case he becomes incapacitated, so I can pull the chute! But also consider that she may want to remain blissfully unaware, and that's Ok too. The other rationale I considered is that the training for his pilots license was rigorous, they don't give them out like candy. Watching him go through all those check lists and doing all that planning before flight means that safety is utmost. Then there is the weather...be kind to her take her up on calm clear days before you introduce her to those dreadded cross wind landings! I also take a little of the control in the planning as far as where we go. As you will see by my blog, I choose long runways. A long runway gives me comfort! I also pick destinations that I really want to visit. Lastly remind her that the world becomes such a wonderful place when you fly. We have been to places that I could never have dreamed of because we had a plane. Why on earth would I want to miss out on those opportunities! Oh, and never tell her there is no room for her blow drier or hairspray! Happy flying.

  3. You must go to Mudgee and stay at the Hangar House. http://hangarhouse.com.au Once you land taxi to the house, park your plane in the hangar and your accommodation is right there. Alex and Heath are the perfect hosts and aviation enthusiasts. They lent us their car for the weekend. This place is heaven. The wineries are superb and you don't have to drive miles to get to them. It's the perfect destination for pilots.

  4. You can't go past the Go Pro attached to underside of the wing with the 3M mount. We have taken umpteen flights and it is rock solid. You have total control by bluetooth from inside the cockpit. Here is one of the many videos we have taken.

Just remember to remove the camera after tie down....something we kept forgetting!

  5. Karen:Welcome to flying and the forums. I had a brief read of your blog. Love your sense of humor esp the bit about always flying with a fabulous hairdo! Looking forward to seeing the pics of your flyin travels.

Your Cirrus will take you to anywhere you want to go, just ask Ryan Campbell.

    Happy landings, and smooth flying.

Thanks so much. Keep viewing for more adventures.

  6. That blog is nice reading:thumb up: I especially liked the trick on getting the spare seat, although hopefully the secret is not out yet:fear:.

Anyway, welcome and keep the updates coming.

Thanks so much. Keep viewing. I have many more flying stories to tell.

  7. "The picture above shows what we all dream about on a long haul flight (other than the upgrade to business)…the illusive spare seat! How do I get one of these you ask???? Well, I have this nifty trick that I use. When I choose my seats I pick a window for myself and an aisle for Randy, leaving the middle seat spare. Now we all know that no one likes the middle seat and we all avoid it like the plague. I have found that 90% of the time, if the flight is not completely full, that middle seat stays empty giving us the space we so crave on the 14 hour journey to LA. In the event that someone is allocated the middle seat I ‘take one for the team’ and move into it so that Randy and I can sit together, all the while making friend for life with the person who thought that he/she was stuck with that awful middle seat. Give it a go next time you fly, you’ve got nothing to lose and space to gain!"

A couple on our last flight tried this. They ended up with a rather rotund individual in the middle who refused to swap seats on the 11 hours flight from Dubai to Oz 007_rofl.gif.8af89c0b42f3963e93a968664723a160.gif

Too funny. I guess that is everyones flying nightmare! Either that or BO!

  8. Hey there! I'm very happy to be here and share everything the avaition has to offer. I am NOT a pilot, but instead a very happy right seat passenger. I love to travel and when we first bought our little Cirrus SR20 I had never been in a small plane. Boy did it open my eyes to a world I had never fathomed existed. In our 2 1/2 years we have had some amazing adventures, but I found it very hard to find information on how to tackle this unique style of travel. So, with all my insights and experience I decided to start a blog. Check it out at www.myflycation.com.au You may find it helpful for your next trip. Trust me I've only just begun, there are many more journeys to be had.
