I shall get back with that answer!

1 hour ago, RFguy said:
important to consider failure modes- and fuses
IE - fuses in line to battery (both sense and charge )
Voltage sense should have a smaller fuse because it usually has smaller wire cross section). 1A would do it.Charge- to be rated at the minimum of the ( regulator , wiring and alternator) limit.
Fuse blowing on the sense line should cause charge output to go to zero- otherwise the regulator might think the battery is flat.
I was concerned about the fuses too, checked all satis.
i have since test flown the aircraft and the charging system is now correctly charging.

Hi flyers,
Well the silver box was in fact full of electronics! Yes I believe home made!
But........with an adjustable volt dial inside the box. Sorry I couldnt take a picture with the box open. The LAME’s hand were in the way.
End result Alternator checked OK ✅
Voltage regulator readjusted to 13.9v ✅
A very interesting exercise, I learnt a lot, and will promptly forget tomorrow!
I do now have a spare Bosch RE55 in my tool box if the above fix is not ok.
Thank you for your knowledge gents!

Thanks Nev,
I thought it might be a homie!
The alternator is a Mitsubishi car alt, I have the ident number.
It would appear to be from the around the 1990s at a guess.
I have tried an internet search for the alternator, no joy yet but early days.
Yes it’s belt driven.

I looked at hangarage on the moon. Turned it down. Just no atmosphere.....
The engine though would only need to be a six of the hp required here.

Wilbur and Orville Wright used to take it in turns to do the test flying/crashing of the Kittyhawk. After the 13th crash, after extricating himself from the wreckage... Wilbur was heard to say to Orville “All this (gesture to the wreckage) just to bonk a few hostess’s!”

2 bricks fixes it!

Very nice to have CHT & EGT for all cylinders, only if you’re flying behind a machine that has manual mixture control. IMHO

Some say that flying the Bou was the best fun you could have with your pants on!

Many years ago my mates flew our caged canary to Pearce from Richmond.
Later, I was told the canary could withstand a 60 degree bank turn ok, but.... anything more and her little legs collapsed on her perch.
Needless to say after a 3 day Caribou flight to her home the little yellow canary never sang again!
No earmuffs and she was deaf as a post!

Nice, Did you fit new bolt for the spring leaf to Fuse? Worth doing I believe. Cheers
No, but I had to put the bolt in from below as the cap (taller than original) must be placed in the freezer before knocking it in the TW. Nylocked and split pinned through the bolt.
Apologies, do you mean the bolts holding the spring leaf to the fuselage?

I bought one prior to the auction. Yes they are ’high’ hour machines, but most have been through a wing spar/splice plate replacement. They are in reasonable cosmetic nick appropriate for their age noting that they have been ’workhorse’ aircraft. The avionics are fantastic - GTN750, ADSB In/Out, TAWS (TCAS), COM 2, etc. Engine TBO is 1500hrs (was 1650 but that was only for BAE). A persual of the engine logbook shows that the engine made TBO on each occasion and was subsequently overhauled.
Empty weight comes in at around 790kg mark with a MTOW of 1180kg. Slightly heavier (+50kgs ish) than an A model, but no need to dismiss them on that basis. Over the last few hours I have been achieving around the 120-125 KTAS For 45 lph.
My view is that they have been very well maintained and that they have plenty of life left in them for a private operator like myself (30-60 hours a year). They are already VH registered. Some (like mine are 91/92 models acquired from the factory new by BAE - hence one owner. Others are a mix of ex RAAF A models and RNZAF B models.
I am very happy with my purchase. I’ve already been inverted and flying it is a real hoot. Traps in owning one? Probably no more or less than any other GA aircraft. And no, I’m not going to reveal what I paid for it.
How about a few pictures please?

Hi This is the tail wheel after I did the service, parts and repaint. Parts included the new wheel, oilite bearing, key, spring and the cover cap. Can't put my hand on the pulled apart images. Is this what yours looks like if so it is what is used on the Skyfox tail draggers. Cheers.

Thanks for the photo!
Visited Coastal, didn’t see Stowe, no help.
Have since sent photo to Maule direct, my tw assembly (not the wheel) appears to be a pre 1976 tw.
Cap is not available (I found a plastic temporary one atm) sizing now different.
The cap is presently the only requirement, as you say the locking bearing and pins etc are the same for mine.
The internal main bearing (when it gets worn) will be required to be made here in a lathe shop.
Aircraft Spruce show the breakdown of parts, and they also confirm no caps available.
I am currently talking with a mate who rebuilds old cars, 1.25 inch grease cups may be coming! ?✌
Thanks to every one for your assistance!

Take it down to Rob Stowe at Coastal Aviation at Caloundra as it looks like the one I had on my old CA21 Skyfox. He has parts for the Skyfox's. I got all the refirb parts for Aircraft Spruce back when I did it. Cheers
Thank you kind sir, WILCO ?

The lock/unlock mechanism looks like a Maule but the fork doesn’t. Is it a hybrid?
Trying to get to the bottom of it, I agree looks like early maule but the fork arghhhhh!
-
I'll go for Maule. Brush a thin coat of paint stripper onto the aluminium tag, then wash it off with water, and see if the writing becomes visible on the tag.

Thanks onetrack, unfortunately I tried that but the tag disintegrated ?
I’m inclined to think it’s a maule type, however I haven’t seen a ‘fork’ type tw on all the websites I’ve been active in.

Hi Gurus,
If a person could positively identify the manufacturer of the following tail wheel assembly that would be great.
Please disregard the tail wheel itself, that will not ident the assembly.
Reason, new grease cap is required, and I want to get a spare bushing too! Grease cap is 1.25 inch or 31.7mm
All exact answers gratefully received.
Please see attached photos.......

Possibly another option, old fashioned, Aeromatic. Basically no control in the cockpit but sets automatically for takeoff and cruise. Aeromatic.com

Update........🥴
Alternator removed for refurbishing.
Replacement Bosch Voltage regulator on way too.
All under LAME guidance and figment.
