No it's not a waste, your just not seeing the big picture, their actually training them to go to the toilet, then they go on a vacation to the hot springs for a bit of R&R before being presented to you, no one wants to end up with a gob fulla Sh*^%$.Seems a waste, spending weeks training the cockroaches to line up in 4's and grab the bamboo, just to deep fry the little buggers.- 1

From what I understand once in cloud or loss of all visual cues, this is called spatial disorientation and can happen to even the most skilled pilots. Believe this sadly happened to John F Kennedy Jnr.

RJW, flew gliders some 26 years ago, recently did my second flight in a drifter, went cross country and first two legs were a breeze, last leg home was like being on a crazed rodeo bronco and had similar thoughts, but you get days like that and its best you know how to handle your aircraft when those conditions catch you out, and as the owner/pilot kept saying to me, height is your friend, as others have said to you it will all click into place so keep going and good luck, weatherman may also be your other friend.

Maybe this might help Mike, your PDF info is a take from the first link so guessing they follow suit, Cheers AB

Very plush interior with the obligatory coffee holder, cost wise it could be worse, imagine the price tag if it was painted Lockhaven Yellow

There were two at Gayndah on the weekend, we gave a hand to push them over to the fuel bowser where they dropped the front wheel down, I hear they are very quick and have a long range, not my cup of tea though. Very sleek.

Sorry if slightly off topic.while fossicking the surrounds of a long-abandoned airstripRiley, recently read an article about a chap looking for bits from a Avro Avian, he is a restorer of old aircraft, I am amazed at what clever people can do with a pile of rust, here are some pics of his discovery. full story here.

It was indeed, and your Legend had a few admirers at Angelfield, myself being one of them.It was a great day for flying. -
HITC sorry mate my humor is sometimes a tad too subtle, recent news, man lost 5 days Mt Tamborine, no signal fires no matches or firelighting equip, even though he was told to stay put on his last known triangulation, walked out 5 days later with only 8 sultanas a day to survive on, police quizz for hours as he was in too good a shape to go 5 days and only few scratch's and abrasions, all looks a bit suss as money spinning con.you'd do well to take more than a firestick and a pack of sultanasBeing from the gold coast thought you might be up on the yarn.
I will endeavour to be more succinct in future

I think a lot of those things are ok, but high on my list would be a PLB, with that the rest are mostly obsolete, maybe something to light a fire for warmth and signal in case you cant be rescued till next day, and some sultana's or a big mac, seems you can last 5 days in the bush on a snack pack box of sultana's and the big mac will last ten years without decomposing almost as good as a ten year battery life in the PLB's

Bob SVD you maybe right about it not getting off the ground, I think the best thing to do would be drop the 447 off now and I will take it to the dump for you, via my place, move back to SA with less weight to cart and re engine once your there, and if you don't move then you have one less problem to worry about lolJust brought home a Kestrel, only just fit in it and with 477 RotaxI'm taking it that is a Lea Kestrel your talking about.

As far as I'm aware, Councils have no jurisdiction over aviation matters as they are federally legislated. In saying that, there are some directions CASA have laid down as to how an ALA is to be constructed and operated. Like being at a certain height when over your neighbours property, ie: set your airstrip well back into your property. Or get permission from them to fly low over their property on approach or take off.For the councils, a hanger looks awfully like a machinery shed for approval purposes. Not for farm sheds away from boundaries - 60m I think
I was about to say what Kyle just said, seems to be the rule of thumb in Qld anyway, but I think it can be closer to the boundary if it cannot be seen from the road, I know a guy who will do a good deal on fast growing clumping bamboo and if anyone say's Bex there will be trouble lol.I was told you can put up anything you want so long as it is 200 metres from any boundary.....seems to be a real ruling from what I have found out in the Bundaberg shire...they do not promote it thoughYeah for farm sheds or hangers on rural property, acquaint yourself quietly on your local council ByLaws, no point giving them the heads up, knowledge is power so they say.

On a serious note, I know of a private strip, owner went out one morning at first light as he is VFR, next the local farmers who are in bed by 7pm and up at god knows were saying Oh so and so went out over my house at 4am and woke me up and scared all my animals, whatever, you are never going to satisfy some of these old bugga's no matter what you do or how nice you are, only thing is try to go out and not over the complainers house even if it means a few NM out of your way to avoid going over him or her, these are the ones who object to daylight saving as it fades the curtains and the cows don't give the same milk.
Give me a 4 mile strip and a Lancaster please lol

Coming along nicely Bex, enjoying this thread, have seen a few aircraft using ally angle and I guess that's ok but always thought them a little flimsy looking, yours is looking quite strong compared to the ally angle machines but like others have thoughts on weight issues, when you installed the vertical it seemed to slip in quite nicely but I would have thought you would have clamped it together to take out any gap to insure a very snug fit to take out any possible movement.
Await the next installment.
